Photoshop :: CS3 Activation Woes - Can't Find The...
Sep 27, 2008
The situation: Not long after CS3 came out I installed it on PC "A". About a year later I built PC "B" to replace PC "A". I installed CS3 on PC "B" with activation being successful. Eventually (totally forgetting about activation) I tore the innards out of PC "A" and rebuilt it from the new motherboard up, including the hard drives. I installed CS3 on PC "A" this morning only to be informed via dialog that there were too many activations and that I should purchase a new serial number. No phone number. No leads to a phone number that I could find.

I have a 146 gig hard drive with 3 gigs of ram. Im currently using PS10 as part of CS3 to finish a job and will then be loading CS4 with the new Photoshop, which I have. I tried Vista Ultimate and after nearly cracking up, went back to XP Pro SP3. I had a Nec Multisynch CRT and decided to go for a new LCD monitora Lacie 320, which Im most unhappy with.
The problem is screen resolution. According to the Lacie specs, monitors should be set at 1600 x 1200. At that resolution, Photoshop as well as the rest of the CS, and the visuals that I create in PS, are all minuscule, and my three websites look stupid. I called Lacie tech support, and they said that I could go down to 1400 x 1050 but no further without distortion.
There are three problems: 1) Even with adjustments in XP, I still have to keep my nose to the screen at 1400 x 1050 to see PS menus, read PS help etc., and would like the resolution to be at 1024 x 768; 2) indeed, 48+ % of computer users have monitors set at 1024 x 768 or lower and will have the pleasure of seeing what I cannot see and would like to see; 3) 38 % of computer users have monitors set at 1920 x 1200 and will see my work as postage stamps,

I noticed something strange about my crop tool.
Several times, I've attempted to crop & after hitting "enter" it crops my document to 1x1 pixel.
Don't know what's going on here? Anyone have a advice to this situation?

I've had to submit a bunch of pics lately and they needed some work done. The files were jpgs and when I finished work on them I chose save as, I didn't want to effect the original file. So I selected save as and saved them as tiffs. When the files went to my desktop they were still labeled as jpegs but the files size had tripled. I tried to open them in PS shop but it said it was an unreadable jpeg. What's going on? Why can't I save a JPG as a tiff?
Also is there anyway to get PS to add the file tag? I use a mac and it doesn't put jpg or tiff at the end of the file name. I need it for my online printer.

I'm doing a LOT of tracing of raster files on illustrator. After using the image trace function to vectorize a raster file, I further edit the vector. I select the vector file, place the raster file I will trace from on top, and begin to erase sections of the vector that don't line up with the raster file. The problem I'm encountering is that I have to hide the raster layer (the one I'm tracing from) each time I want to add (paint) to the vector. Is there a way I can paint on the vector without hiding (or effecting) the topmost raster layer?

I have run into an issue relating to the differences in the way Mudbox and Maya subdivide meshes. My workflow for creating blend shapes is as follows:
1. Create base head mesh in Maya
2. Import base head mesh into Mudbox and subdivide to level 2
3. Create a Mudbox layer on top of base head mesh to sculpt each blend shape (e.g., browsMidUp)
4. For each blend shape, export the level 0 mesh to Maya for use as a blend shape on the base head mesh
Here is where it all falls apart.
When I smooth the blend shape in Maya (either by choosing smooth preview or by selecting Mesh>Smooth), the smoothed mesh in Maya differs from that in Mudbox. In the case of browsMidUp, the blend shape created in Mudbox only modified the brows. However, in Maya when the blend shape is smoothed the mouth opens up (i.e., the lips smooth differently in Maya than Mudbox, causing the mouth to open).
This is incredibly frustrating because I did not discover this problem until after I created approximately 35 blend shapes in Mudbox!I believe I can work around my current error. However, I would like to know how others approach the creation of blend shapes.Do you use Mudbox? If so, how do prevent issues associated with smoothing differences?

I'm a fairly new photoshop user (a convert from fireworks - finally outgrew it) and the issue i'm having is major slowness in photoshop. I am 100% certain it is because I have over 5000 fonts installed on my computer. This never presented a problem for fireworks so I never thought it would be a problem for photoshop.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? Photoshop will hang, even crash sometimes and overall be far too slow with all these fonts. I installed PS on an identical computer that I have without the fonts and it ran much better.

I am still running PS CS on Windows 7 - it does all that I need. I just cloned my system disk to a SSD and had to make some changes to the virtual memory settings as a result. PS CS now says that the machine configuration has changed and it needs to be re-activated (yawn).Â
However when I try to activate online it says 'the activation system is not available at this time.' Is this because it's not possible to activate PS CS any longer, or is it genuinely just broken today? I have retired over a period of a couple of hours.

how to disable a registered copy of Master Suite? I currently have it installed on both my laptop and my desktop. One day my desktop's hard drive corrupted itself and would not allow my pc to boot no matter what I tried. So I ended up doing a low level format to my drive and reinstalling the operating system along with master suite. I was not able to deactivate my desktop's CS4 install because the computer was not able to boot into windows. Formating did not disable my copy of master suite, so when I restalled master suite it claims that I have it running on three computers yet, I have it only running on two computers. I installed it on to same pc, with the same operating system. My big question is, how do I disable the defunct copy of CS4 that is not working so I can use my fresh install of CS4 and my current install of CS4 on my laptop? Please help. PC specs: Intel Q9450 @ 3.6GHz (8 x 450FSB) / Abit IX38 Quad GT / 8Gb G.Skill @ 5-5-5-15 1000MHz / 2X 8600GT's (Core 700Mhz - Mem 760Mhz) / 2X Seagate 500GB (RAID 0) + 2X Seagate 1.5TB / Creative Labs X-Fi / PCP&C Silencer 750W / Lian Li V2000B Plus II / Vista Ultimate X64 SP1

I'm trying to install Photoshop CS2 for a client, but when I launch the application I get the error: "An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall the application"
I've already done the obvious thing to reboot and re-install the application with the same error. I tried deleting temporary files to no avail. Is there any other solution I should try before I re-image the machine?

Does the CS2 version of Photoshop actually do anything when you click the 'activate' option in the Help menu? Mine does not. I attempted to activate it via the phone system as well, and it asks for an activation number that should have been provided during installation, but does not appear anywhere on the registration page or anywhere else in the software. I've tried to contact Adobe, but from what I've seen on the Support boards, I may never hear from them. Allegedly (according to the support site) I should get an initial response via email within 4 hours of submitting the ticket (never got that) and some sort of informed reply within 3 days. So far, not a thing. Trying to contact them by phone results in literally hours listening to bad muzak and an automated system, but no human contact. Does anyone have any info on this? I realize it's an older version, just trying to determine if this is normal behavior for that version, or if perhaps the vendor needs to be visited by the Men in Blue.

I've got CS3 installed on a computer and a few days ago I installed Fedora and accidently erased the copy of Windows. Now I want to install CS3 on another machine but I can't activate it. It tells me that first I have to deactivate CS3 from the other machine. My problem is that I can't boot on windows anymore in order to do that. The windows partition was deleted.

I was wondering if it is standard behaviour for my PS CS6 subscription to require me to log in to Activate the license EVERY time I use it? I thought that one it was activated, PS only checks the Activation every 30 days. Once I log in the activation works fine, however if for any reason my internet connection was not available, it would seem that I would not be able to use my copy of PS.
Â
I realize that that would happen even if the check was every 30 days, but that would only be a possible issue once a month, not every day!

So I just purchased a new computer, and with the work I do, sometimes it's easier to have two iterations of Photoshop running on two different computers. In other cases, someone in my family is using my computer, for something other than Photoshop, so I just want to sit at the other computer.
So I installed CS2 Suite on the new computer, which went fine, then activated it, which it said went fine, then when I went to use the software it says I didn't have a properly registered software, or something to that effect.
So I looked over the license agreement and it basically says you can have a copy on another machine, but you can only use one at a time...which after reading further, leads me to believe I have to de-activate the software on one computer before I can activate it on the other.... so in effect, I don't believe I can run on two machines at the same time...

Recently I became aware that PhotoShop CS3 has a limit of activation / deactivation. I have always supported companies in fighting unauthorized use of software and in fact lost my job and was out of work for a year after refusing to pirate software for clients. This stand has cost me greatly in personal finance due to being out of work and it angers me to know of companies using software without a license. Even when I reported the issues it seems no action gets taken which I guess is due to the small sizes. Thankfully I now have a new job at a place that follows my belief of requiring licensed usage of software.
Being a network engineer I am always tinkering with my home computer and testing out new software. This means that I run betas, release candidates and even demos as a part of my profession. Consequently this has me needing to wipe out the hard drive from time to time. I always thought of the Adobe activation method as the best as it allowed one to deactivate the product prior to having a reload as the best way to go as it allowed the person to not have the hassles with reactivation. Also to keep within the license I have PhotoShop install on my office computer so that I may do work with web images from time to time. To ensure that nobody at the office uses my PhotoShop I have been deactivation it and removing the key.

It came in the retail box and the CD still had the seal on it. It looked very legit (not that it always means anything, I guess), but when I try to install it I get the message that an activation error was encountered.
Is this error a sign that I may have gotten bogus software? Is there a way I can verify if I have a legit copy or not?

I purchased a new copy of PS CS2 and after install, I activate it and it says information was sent. Then a few seconds later I receive an error message:
"An error has been detected and activation cannot continue. Please restart your computer and reinstall application."
I have reinstalled at least six time, even once via SAFE MODE. I have installed via two different CD rom drives, I have followed all the suggested fixes and nothing seems to work.
I then installed on my laptop, and I receive the same error message.
I can, on both computers, open ImageReady CS2 and use it; it seems to be affecting only PS CS2.

The issue is with Photoshop CS1 not having the same ability as every other version of Photoshop to either backup the activation information, or provide the Adobe crack CD to bypass the activation.
I sometimes have to reinstall my entire OS multiple times per month and when doing so must reinstall Photoshop. At this time, the software requires activation. Since those who purchase Photoshop are automatically volunteered to the Adobe anti-piracy program, the user must call Adobe every single time that you want to use the product. This issue has cost me easily over a few thousand dollars in company time already and I am desperate for a solution.
As a reference, CS2 & CS3 have built-in functions to backup the registration information so that you can use the software without spending a day or two on the phone.
Earlier versions of Photoshop such as ver 5.5 do not require enrollment in the anti-piracy program, so Adobe can just send the crack CD that will work with the license number that is received when the product is purchased. The last company I worked with was using 5.5 and required Photoshop to be installed on a laptop without networking abilities and that is how I learned of the crack CD from Adobe.
how to either obtain the CS1 activation crack from Adobe, or how to backup the activation information,

I know that I can install my LR4 upgrade directly to my new Macbook Air and that it will just ask me for the serial number from LR3 without LR3 installed on the new computer. (URL....)
Â
Is it the same with CS6? Can I just plug in the serial number from CS3?If, instead of installing from the disc (so old fashioned, I know!), I migrate it over through a clone external drive of my old computer (that I still want to use), do I have to migrate over both CS3 and CS6?
Â
Also, can I suspend activation of CS6 on the old computer (and just use CS3 if I need to do something less complex) and use it on the new one?

I was wondering if there was a way to check and see if a program has been activated?
Â
I have a few previous Adobe programs that I have unistalled from my computer years ago, after I upgraded the program, and I wanted to find out if there was a way to see if the activation code was deactivated or not. Is there a page that Adobe has that you can go and enter in an activation code and see if it is activated or if it has not activated?

I have Windows XP with Production premium installed. I also have a laptop with Windows 7 RC, with parts of Production Premium (programs i use the most) installed on it too. I've done this to test production premium on Windows 7 as my secondary computer usage of the license (Single User). However, Windows 7 will eventually be deactivated on my laptop early next year by Microsoft, so my question is, if i tell production premium to deactivate on my laptop, will it affect my primary instalation on my XP PC? I do plan to get 7 for my PC as a full-use OS to fully replace XP when it comes out, but deactivating the product then and reactivation after instalation of 7 should work fine,

I just bought a new laptop computer....I had Adobe Photoshop CS2 installed on my desktop computer...have not used it much at all. So, just yesterday I did the "Transfer Activation "thing". I did as instructed...Installed it on my laptop...(this new laptop is an HP Pavilion with 2GB, Intel Centrino, Light Scribe, and Windows Vista).
When I was through installing it (it said I installed successfully)....then I was told to register it... ...I did so...using my new address (of the laptop)...It told me It registered successfully.
I then proceeded to download updates....when all was said and done, and rebooted...said the updates were installed successfully as were the registration, and updates.
