Photoshop :: CC - Could Not Transform Because Initial Bounding Rectangle Is Empty

Sep 17, 2013

I am running the latest version of PS CC on a MacBook Pro OS 10.8.5 with 16GB of ram. When I started my computer this morning an update from Adobe came up so I ran it.  Now the move tool and the free transform function are not working.  Literally nothing happens when I click drag with the move tool and when I try to use free transform I get an error message I've never seen:

"Could not transform because the initial bounding rectangle is empty.."

I was working on this computer last night using PS on the exact same files and did not run into this problem.  Perhaps it was something in the update I ran this morning? The description for the update claimed it added a new version of Camera Raw and added new camera profiles. I don't see how, but its possible that the update effected the way the tools  work, or in my case not work.

Photoshop :: Error :: Could Not Transform Because The Initial Bounding Rectangle Is Empty

Mar 18, 2008

I've got CS3 and working on a document. I'm typing in text but nothing is coming up on my document. The cursor is not flashing but the text I've written is shown as a layer.

I tried selecting Free Transform and I'm getting the message:

"Could not transform because the initial bounding rectangle is empty"

Illustrator :: Mysterious Empty Bounding Box Appears That Can't Be Deleted

Mar 2, 2011

I seem to be doing something that causes an empty bounding box to appear in my document and when I attempt to delete the bounding box I can't. It always remains on the screen. When I select any objects in the design, the mysterious bounding box encompasses it and the object. I can even move the empty bounding box to any corner of the artboard and when I select an object it will look as if the object has some hidden content in the corner where the empty bounding box was because it incorporates the mystery bounding box with the object's natural bounding box.

I'm running CS5 on a Windows machine with 8gigs of RAM.

Photoshop :: Creating An Empty Rectangle With A Border

May 20, 2004

I know how to do it in Fireworks, but want to use PS to achieve the task ... so basically want to create an empty box, circle or whatever shape with a border x pixels wide.

The way I do it right now is to make a black rectangle, then fit a smaller white rectangle inside it, and delete the overlapping black area, that leaves me with just an outline of whatever width I choose.

Illustrator Scripting :: Creating Bounding Rectangle And Selecting Particular Objects?

Aug 23, 2012

I'm extremely new to scripting; I managed to create a script to extend the artboard of my documents (which I was extremely proud of given my inexperience!) and another to align a couple of objects alongside each other, but my attempts to script some new code has met with failure.

Firstly, I need some Illustrator CS4 Javascript code that will create a bounding rectangle for the selected object(s). The selected object(s) will always be rectangular; no irregularly-shaped objects. I know this should be simple, but I can't work out the variables/attributes involved.

Secondly, some code to select the leftmost object in a document. And the equivalent for the rightmost object.

If it makes any difference, I'll be stitching these scripts together with an action to achieve the following workflow.

Two EPS files are dragged into an empty document as 'Linked Files'.The two Linked Files are aligned alongside each other. (Using a script I've already written.)The leftmost Linked File is selected and has a bounding rectangle created, which is then used to mask the Linked Object. The rightmost Linked File is then selected and has a bounding rectangle created, which is then used to mask the Linked Object. Both masked Linked Files are selected, and a bounding rectangle is created to mask them into the same Clipping Mask group. The artboard is set to the dimensions of this combined masked pair (I've managed to write that script already). The Linked Files are embedded into the document.

The reason for this is because we have EPS map files exported from AutoCAD that are left- and right-hand pages. These need to be combined into one file, but when they are brought in they lose their masks as the BBOX element is not recognised by Illustrator. The double-masking in my process above is needed to ensure that content from either map doesn't overlap the other half of the map.

Photoshop :: Transform A Rectangle Into A Semicircle

May 27, 2009

Is there a way to transform a rectangle into a true semicircle? One long side of the rectangle should be preserved, the other long side be transformed into a semicircular curve. The endpoints of the curve will then coincide with the two ends of the opposite side.

GIMP :: How To Transform Rectangle Part To Triangle

Aug 27, 2013

I need to transform a rectangle part of my picture to a triangle, linearly, only with horizontal distortion, keeping vertical positions in place. (a rectangle to a triangle standing on its side, by moving the top corners to one point).

I tried the Cage Transform: the top of the picture seems good, but it also distorts the bottom line in this case. Other tools seem not suitable at all.

Illustrator :: Differentiate Empty And Non-empty Pixels

Oct 31, 2013

I'm a web developer currently slicing an illustrator file for web graphics. Some of the icons and images have shadows, lights, etc, and it's impossible to simply see by a naked eye which pixels contains some shade or nearly transparent color and which doesn't.

It would be extremely useful if I could somehow easily differentiate between empty and non-empty pixels, so I wouldn't miss any when slicing.

Photoshop :: Rounded Rectangle With Other Layers As Actual Rectangle

Feb 14, 2011

I have 4 layers (background, layer1, layer2, layer3-text). They fill all 300 x 600 pixels that comprise the .psd/future image. What I want to do is use a rounded rectangle to encompass all of the other layers, so that the surrounding pixels (around the rounded rectangle) are transparent.

I want all of my current layers to be the content of a rounded rectangle.

Photoshop :: Transform Applied To Smart Object Fails To Transform Attached Smart Filters Mask

Aug 9, 2012

Ps CS6
OSX 10.6.8

Problem: Transform applied to Smart Object fails to transform an attached Smart Filters Mask.

I mean a Transform, including Free Transform, as found in the Edit menu.  A simple move by the Move Tool is OK.

A workaround until this bug is squashed is to encapsulate the Smart Object + Smart Filters + Filter Mask inside another Smart Object and transform that. However, that will not be a satisfactory solution in some cases. If a filter has size parameter(s), e.g. Gaussian Blur radius, a scaling or warping/distorting transform applied after the filter will obviously differ from the filter applied after the transform.

In any case, the workaround is inconvenient to subsequent editing and experimenting with filters and masks.

Photoshop :: CS4 -initial

Oct 16, 2008

When I start CS4 (32bit) Extended it says Stonehenge and "DEV" at the end. Is this some sort of pre-release version? Or, am I running the proper production version that I purchased?

After opening CS4 (32bit) Extended most of the file menu is dimmed. I cannot even do a File < Open. I can use bridge to open a file and this problem clears up for subsequent File menu issues. What is going on here?

Turning on and off the eye in the layers pallet has no effect on the image until I click on image. Is this a new feature? If it is, it is a crazy new feature. How do you turn it off?

3rd party plug-ins are problematic in the 32 bit version. In the 64 bit version they just show up. I guess that is to be expected though.

Photoshop :: CS6 3D Return To Initial Camera Position

Oct 29, 2012

I am using the 3D functions of CS6 and I noticed a bunch of options either moved around or removed completely. Well, more likely is that I'm just not able to find them. Anyway, one of the functions I have not yet been able to find is the "Return to Initial Camera Position" button. It used to appear in the control panel but not anymore.

In order to get the object and camera back to their initial position I could just go into the history panel and back up to when I first opened the object but that kind of defeats the purpose.

Photoshop :: How To Move Both Handles Symmetrically After Initial Point Set

Apr 18, 2013

How can I move both handles symmetrically after the initial point is set?

pen tool:

1) drop a point
2) drop another point and drag (both handles move symmetrically in distance from point and angle)
3) finish your shape
4) switch to Direct Selection Tool
5) select one of the new points and move the handles (angle changes but distance from does not)

Here's a quick vid

[URL].........

I run in to this all the time.  I'll quickly set top of a curve, make a mistake and then want to go back and symmetrically extended both handles.  Right now I have to set the distance on each side independently and it's never perfectly symmetrical again.

Photoshop :: Bounding Handles

Jul 5, 2006

I have a file that is 13 x9. In print dialogue box I used the bounding handles to shrink it to 9x6.

Now today I want to print at true file size. I open image size dialogue box and it is still 13x9. But when I open print dialogue box it still says 9x6? why? and it look 9x6 in the preview, not 13 x9 which is the real size of file -- so I'm confused.

If I type in 13 x9 or use bounding handles again to get 13 x9 am I now upresing the file??
