how to use Live Trace in Illustrator but now instead of the Tracing Options window having a button that says "Trace" it's now showing a button that says "Set to Default." I'm sure something isn't selected right or something similar, but I can't figure it out. why "Trace" is no longer an option?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings? This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.
Left: CS5 - Comic Art setting.
Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.
I just started using CS6, jumping from CS3. A major tool I use is Live Trace, and I have custom settings for that. I cannot find a way to make Image Trace behave the way Live Trace did for black and white line drawings. The results I get in CS6 are far inferior to those I got in CS3 in terms of retaining the look of the original raster image. Otherwise, I will have to leave CS3 installed just to do my Live Trace.
Here is a sample of what I mean. You can see the quality degredation in CS6 compared to CS3. (And it's much more obvious when it's full size and full resolution.)
My settings used in Live Trace (CS3) were:
The settings I tried in CS6 that gave the above result were:
I have recently buy one software ( embroidery) , with the corel draw x5 essential.
- but I can not find the trace function to convert bitmap to vector , like power trace.
I have some random curves (already created) and I want to blur them just from one side to have the same blur distance and effect one the whole curve.
To more precisely describe what I need, I need to create gradient with direction of normal for every "point". The best example I have found so far are borders in Civilization IV game. Here are two examples:

apolyton.net/civ4/files/info-images/agade.png
As you can see, there is a solid curve, which gradually blends (i.e. alpha channel is lowered) till the gradient disappears. I have the solid curve and the question is, what would be the simplest way how to do this (the number of curves is around 100) gradient.
I just got PSE CS6 and the blur too will NOT work ....blur filters work, but not BLUR in the tools panel I have tried: unintstall/reinstall, updating, using it no a picture straight after opening it, duplicate layers, selecting an area and then blurring....flattening an image, every single different setting in the the blur tools menu bar NOTHING works. And everything I find about blur is the new blur filters....

View 1 Replies View RelatedHere is my latest attempt at an out of bounds image.. I don't understand why the lines of the photo are jagged... I did this rather quick but I am a little confused about the jagged lines... which by frustration left me leaving the image as is. Any ideas as to why this happened? I had made a rectangle and did a fill and deleted the inner part.. then when I transformed it I made sure to hold the shift key to keep it correct..

All of my hatches went out of bounds at some point.
Okay, So when you use a clipping mask there can sometimes be a lot of art that is invisible. If you "Select All" you'll get a rectangle only around what's visible. I want the bounds of that rectangle.
I tried itterating the art but I don't think that the art type is the best way to figure this one out. And if you use AIGroupSuite to test if an art group is "clipped" with GetGroupClipped, you get the bounds of the larger art that I'm trying to avoid.
I didn't see anything about bounds of a "selection" in the docs.
I've not had to deal with metes and bounds info in a very long time. For one project I have to generate the info for a couple parcels. From looking around it looks like there's a tool in ACAD Civil. Is there something similiar in Map3D?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I'm cropping to a square, but I want the crop to extend off the image area because I want to replace the missing bit in photoshop. This effectively makes the image bigger than the original. the only way to achieve the same effect is to scale the image, that keeps the pixel dimensions the same but effectively reduces the size of the image.
is there a way to crop beyond the image bounds?
I want to crop several images in same aspect ratio. So I checked "Fixed" option and set proper values in tool box.
And sometimes I want to complement image with background color if selectionis larger than original size. In this case, I add a larger layer bottom of the image and crop it.
But it would better if I can do it by one action. Therefore I'm trying to write a script-fu for it, but I'm stuck now.
Because a function `gimp-selection-bounds` returns points only inside ofthe image even if the selection is outside of image.
Is there a way to get bounds of selection outside of a image by usingscript-fu?
how to get/determine the visible bounds (top+left coords and width+height or Rect structure) of a group having a clipping mask or several masks? When a script asks for Visible Bounds, Illustrator provides the coords/size of the group like it does not have any clipping mask. So, you see a circle of 10px diameter (and these are the actual visible bounds of this group), but Illustrator says that the visible bounds are 50 px wide and 70 px in height.
And what to do if the group contains multiple clipping masks of different shapes/sizes?
I have a dynamic simulation which seems to have corrupted itself. I have a number of Revolution joints which are torsional springs. I’ve enabled joint torque and set a spring stiffness and a free position (+15 deg). Then on the ‘initial condition’ page I’ve set Max (+45 deg) and Min(-15 deg) Bounds on rotation angle and set a stiffness 10x the spring stiffness to simulate the end stops of my torsional spring. The initial position is +12 deg. This was working just fine but since I’ve added a couple more parts (nowhere near these springs) I constantly get the message “The parameter xxx value is out of bounds”. Where xxx is the ‘Initial position’ of the joint. If I edit the joint and untick the Bounds section the message goes away but if I tick it (which I need for my simulation) I get the error message as soon as I pick OK. The position is NOT out of bounds?

View 1 Replies View Relatedtrying to have an applescript place a PDF as an Illustrator Link at the PDF's Media Box using "make new placed item". The only result possible as far as I can tell is a link at the PDF's Art Box.
I've seached around and have seen others with the same issue, but no answers as to whether it is actually possible. As with most Applescript stuff, I am either way overthinking it or it is not possible directly.
Currently I have a workaround using an Applescript script controlling Acrobat to sidestep the problem by setting the Art and Crop box to Media box, then place as a link in Illustrator, but it is not a direct route into illustrator.
I have also noticed that in the "Adobe Illustrator CS5 Scripting Reference" that the "PDF options object properties" do not honor the PDF crop bounds (except for the default value of Media Box). Is this an inherent problem with Applescript/Illustrator and PDF crop boxes? Could it be that the options for Open PDF and Place PDF are crossed?
Ive got a drawing that I scanned, I changed the Levels a bit so most of the jarble is out of it, and now i want to trace it, and have it look nice. Ive tried using the pen tool, it may just be me, but it doesnt turn out good,

View 2 Replies View Relatedbest way of converting some inked line drawings into vectors. I currently do a lot of fabric designs which consist of very simple line drawings, which I then ink up. What I'd like to do is scan these in and then fill them. I'd also like to be able to resize them, hence the vector conversion.
I've had a play with the Live Trace feature in Illustrator, but have to admit that it baffles me slightly. I currently can't find a setting within Live Trace that will trace the image without increasing the size of the stroke - e.g. all the presets just turn my nice fine sketches into big fat black splodges.
I am also having trouble in taking the converted Vectors and transfering them over to Photoshop - any time I either try to copy the layer directly over or open the saved Illustrator file in Photoshop it comes out all jagged.
someone will be able to describe the steps I need to take to do the following:
1. Convert a line drawing into a Vector without drastically increasing the line weights.
2. Take this new Vector from Illustrator to Photoshop without losing any image quality.
On flash often I see trace bitmap to simplfy and smooth down images and avoid pixelation, can this type of act happen within photoshop?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out how to go about tracing the image below, but I'm not having much luck.
The shape itself is quite simple, and yet I'm not sure where to start. I figure once I get one of the leaf shapes I can rotate it 6 times to make the inner star. As for the outer shells, I don't really have a game plan since the inner star creates the center of the six outer shells.
The image itself looks hand drawn, but the shape could obviously be created to be symmetrical. Which brings me to my next point. Symmetry. Using guides and the rotate tool seems like it should be enough to keep things lined up correctly. Yes?
I recently received a new Imac running 10.8.6 and when I attach a digital camera the images go directly to iphoto and yet I don't see any trace of the camera on my desktop or in my finder and therefore can't import them onto my hard drive as customary. if this is an issue with photoshop 5 that will be transparent if I upgrade to photoshop 6? or is there a download that will address this issue is PS

I drew a line art picture, traced over it in pen, scanned it into Illustrator.
I selected the autotrace tool and clicked it on the lines, it didn't work. I clicked IN the lines, and it traced around the lines...see attachment. Also it left out a bunch of shapes.
I'm rather confused. Should I just not use auto trace for this? If so, what's the better tool?
