I save a document from .ai to .pdf in CS5 and it automatically goes to the size of the artwork bounds instead of the artboard or paper size.
View 7 RepliesI finally had the opportunity to use CS6 to create a pattern. Some of the artwork contained blended symbols. When I went to save the pattern, it tells me the symbols and blends will be expanded. In CS5 I can build the artwork, using any tools I choose and drag it into the swatch panel. The source artwork remains fully intact with blends and symbols. Better yet, I can save the source artwork as a symbol and update the pattern directly from the symbol editor window. And even MORE bizarre is the fact you cannot edit a symbol while in "Pattern Edit Mode", even though the "Edit Symbol" button is clearly visible and active within Pattern Mode.
The CS6 Pattern editor is cool, but if it won't retain symbols and blends I find it a big disappointment.
There seems to be an action called adobe_SaveForWeb, but I can't find any documentation for it.
I need to export an artwork to a JPEG with a fixed size (to create a thumbnail of an Ai file), and i've found several unanswered question on this topic. With Save For Web, I can do it through UI.
a documentation for adobe_SaveForWeb, or tell me how which parameter I need to initialize for it to work? I'm using CS6 SDK with Visual C++

Now I can't open or save files without it closing itself. I would uninstall and reinstall it but i lost my code. I have to make vector images for a couple of clients of mine!

I import many languages into fixed text frames and it is a pain to keep resizing or scaling manually.
As of yet I've been unable to source any javascript or applescript that can do it. The closest has been "JET_AutoFitVertical.jsx" but this resizes the text frames.
Okay, So when you use a clipping mask there can sometimes be a lot of art that is invisible. If you "Select All" you'll get a rectangle only around what's visible. I want the bounds of that rectangle.
I tried itterating the art but I don't think that the art type is the best way to figure this one out. And if you use AIGroupSuite to test if an art group is "clipped" with GetGroupClipped, you get the bounds of the larger art that I'm trying to avoid.
I didn't see anything about bounds of a "selection" in the docs.
In Recolor artwork is there a way to change the black and white colors to a color? When I try to edit them it doesn't edit them at all. It would be nice if I didn't have to manually tweak the colors to have color before I go into Recolor Artwork.

When a script asks for Visible Bounds, Illustrator provides the coords/size of the group like it does not have any clipping mask. So, you see a circle of 10px diameter (and these are the actual visible bounds of this group), but Illustrator says that the visible bounds are 50 px wide and 70 px in height.
And what to do if the group contains multiple clipping masks of different shapes/sizes?
Both Adobe Cloud application the applications do not constraint to the screen resoluation, meaning that the Window menu in Illustrator for example has options that are inaccessible instead of creating a scrolling menu within the constraints of the screen.
View 1 Replies View Relatedtrying to have an applescript place a PDF as an Illustrator Link at the PDF's Media Box using "make new placed item". The only result possible as far as I can tell is a link at the PDF's Art Box.
I've seached around and have seen others with the same issue, but no answers as to whether it is actually possible. As with most Applescript stuff, I am either way overthinking it or it is not possible directly.
Currently I have a workaround using an Applescript script controlling Acrobat to sidestep the problem by setting the Art and Crop box to Media box, then place as a link in Illustrator, but it is not a direct route into illustrator.
I have also noticed that in the "Adobe Illustrator CS5 Scripting Reference" that the "PDF options object properties" do not honor the PDF crop bounds (except for the default value of Media Box). Is this an inherent problem with Applescript/Illustrator and PDF crop boxes? Could it be that the options for Open PDF and Place PDF are crossed?
I have a artboard measuing 8" x 10".
When I save it as a PDF file for the printshop, it changes the size to 9.5 x 12.
I'm using Adobe cloud cs6
Saving as SVG (w/out AI editability) changes artboard size ...why? ai saves the artboard dimensions as the frame, unless it decides to expand the frame to accommodate extraneous material. what is weird and disappointing is that ai does not read these frame values back in to recreate the artboard; you have to use preserve ai capability which attaches huge code. How to get it to retain the chosen artboard size?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI usually design for the screen (72) but lately i feel that if im putting massive amounts of time/effort into a piece.... that I dont want to deny myself the option of getting it printed down the road. Now here is the catch...my camera is only 2MP. So the best i can do with that is an 8X10 @ 150dpi which isnt much (its ok quality.....i have an 11X14 @150 hanging on my wall thats decent).
So now when i go to create a new piece i dont know what size to make it. I cant jam up the ppi to far cause i dont have that kinda quality photograph...but i dont want a small document set to 72 cause if i want it res it up i get an extremely small print.
Like 2 examples...one piece i have i made 612x792 (8x10) but its at 72..so if i wanted to print it at 150 (at best) it's going to be really small (4x5... if that). Now another piece i made is 1000x1294 @72 (a large 8x10). Now with this size my 1600x1200 photographs fit fine and if i res it up to 150 i can still achieve an ok 8x5.
So now what do i do. I cant make an 8x11 @ 300 ( i dont have that kinda quality) but i hate the fact that an image i put so much work into can only print like 3x4.
I am preparing some 4-colour artwork (Text & Graphics) for printing onto canvas banners, finished size 8ft x 3ft. Never done this this big before. Surely I do not need to size the artwork in PhotoShop at that size, as the file sizes are massive?
The printer requires hi-res PDF's.
am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have made a macro that asks for a location on the file server (=client name) and then the project name. It then automatic creates the correct folders, opens my custom assembly template and changes an ipart that is by default in it.
That's all great and can save us a ton of time, but the last step is to automatic save the assembly! I just can't get it working and can't find the correct code.
I have defined the target folder earlier and the file name of the assembly is identical to this folder. For example
target folder = O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1
file name = ClientProject1.iam
-> result: O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1ClientProject1.iam
the code that I think should work looks like this:
Sub SaveAssembly() Dim oAssDoc As AssemblyDocument Set oAssDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument oAssDoc.SaveAs ("O:ProjectsclientNameClientProject1ClientProject1.iam", False)End Sub

I have had this complaint for a while internally however whenever Autocad Architecture saves while using a fully functional 3d architure model it hangs when it saves.
There are no errors discovered via audit, the file has been purged, the file has annotative scaled items, there are 3 x-refs & we are working off the server.The file generally has a low amount of layers and the xreferences have also been audited and purged.
in the base file - When Autocad Saves automatically or manually I get a 30 second delay. The task manager only shows one core on the I5 being used more than the others (not fully but spikes up and down). However when I want to go crazy and save multiple times the other cores pick up accordingly (obviously). Cpu usage only shows 27% usage at it s peak (overall).
The amount of ram used remains unchanged in both scenarios.
The network indicates 3-12% usage.
In the xref of the base file (generally the sheet file which has only the base file (with all the attached xreferences) and a title block with a low res image - The model craps out for 2 minutes while it saves same task manager results as well.
I have clean xreferences with no looping which the base file houses.
I'm trying to elimitnate or upgrade (computer) whatever is the issue.
note this has also occured with standard linework files (versus using 3d autcad architure elements)

AutoCAD 2013, 60-90 days into it, upgraded from 2007.
I have 2 of 4 workstations with this issue, AutoCAD will automtically save the file when the files is closed, w/o any prompts to verify of we want to saved or not.
I have my Options|Autosave turned off, but this should not affect the save on close it should only create a continual ac$ backup file.
This is now the 2nd time this has occured. In early March we noticed this and in dealing with AutoCAD (Suscription Service) we finally deceided to restore AutoCAD to factory defaults, which did fix the issue at the time. However it also meant that I needed to retore all the pathways and our standards. Once completed, I paid particular attention to ensuring that AutoCAD was NOT saving the file on close and it was doing so up until earlier this week, when I noticed it SAVING on close again.
Now most of you might think, hey thats a good thing, however, we routinely will test modifications to our layouts on our working files, but dont want to actually modify those files and then we would simply close the drawing w/o saving thus ensuring that those mods were not saved.
In March, both 2007 & 2013 did this, however only my 2013 is affected now.
In LR4, when I edit in PS CS5 it automatically saves an edit copy. That did not happen in LR3. Am I missing a preference so that doesn't happen?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe've just received some artwork from a client in a PDF format, when this artwork is viewed in Adobe Acrobat it shows a star embedded in the artwork,but when the same PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6 this star doesn’t appear...... No warnings are shown to say artwork is missing or has been placed either?
But however when the artwork is exported from Adobe Acrobat in an EPS format, and then this EPS file opened in Illustrator CS6 the star appears.
How I get an automatically opened PDF file just after saving it? In the PDF settings in CorelDraw X5 there seems to be no option for this.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a file with a number of artboards on which there are objetcs filled with 100% Magenta and some with 100% Magenta and 0,34% Yellow. I want to get rid of that 0,34% but Illy is refusing to cooperate.
Even selecting just two or three objects and trying to recolor using the Edit/Edit colors/Recolor Artwork dialog has no effect. I can change the color manually though, for one or more selected objects.
I imported a piece of art into Illustrator and I want all parts of it to be equal and symmetrical. What would be the best way to start going about this?
