I am trying to overlay a few videos side by side where I crop each video to a third of its size only showing what I cropped per video. I used the crop fx but the borders are solid black and the videos behind them do not bleed through. Is there a way to crop the videos ( mask them ) so that only a portion shows and the other overlays show through? ( like three slices ).
I could just overlay one over the other but the subject is not always on the left or right side of the video and may be centered so I'd have to trim the sides.

In Illustrator CS5+, I'm looping through the objects in a document, exporting each of them to an image using exportArtBoardasImage(). They need to be trimmed afterwards, as they generally have a tonne of whitespace. Normally, I run an ImageMagick shell script (mogrify -trim). It'd be awesome if I could reproduce this functionality from within illustrator. I've seen people handle this by copy-and-pasting each object into a new file, sizing the artboard to that object, exporting, then closing the file. I'd rather not do this, as it's *way* too slow.

I have RAWs from my Panasonic GH3 and the files seen in Bridge (CC) oder ACR (8.1) are different in viewing angle compered to the same file opened in other RAW converters. It looks like they are cropped and somehow corrected. But I made no setup for this and can not change it. Sometimes a little bit more area is not bad and I want to access this area but with ACR I can´t.

AFAICT there is no option to make the Straighten function in CS6 automatically crop out the transparent pixels as happens with CS5.

if I use the Straighten tool (first the ruler to mark out a horizon line, then click the Straighten Layer button), Photoshop used to straighten the picture, and then automatically crop it so that none of the extra canvas shows.
When I do that now, it just straightens it, and leaves me to manually crop the picture.

I am a labtech at a community college and look after 48 mac pros in which the students use the entire creative suite. (I only mention this becuase any answers need to consider variations in system settings or photoshop settings. college students get into everything!)
But the issue is when you select the crop tool and enter a custom constraint and crop
The image size is sometimes a full 2 inches off of what you set as a crop?! I havn't run into this before
[I do know you can use the drop down box and use {size and resolution} but I want to know why it doesnt work under custom and unconstrained]

I am missing a crop tool which can rotate the crop rectangle. Similar to photoshop's tool. I found no way to rotate the crop rectangle in gimp. How do you cut out something from an image if it needs to be rotated while cropping? I tried rotating first then cropping but it does not give me enough precision so I end up with transparent areas at the border.

I am having a problem with the crop tool. It will not crop the area I want; it goes to a point and stops. It's as if it has a mind of it's own and I can't direct it. I thought it might be the mouse so I took it apart and cleaned it, and then I put a different mouse in. It still does the same thing.

In the old days, one could just use the crop tool and, while drawing crop lines, check the perspective box if you found that you needed to change the perspective. With CS6 if you start with the crop tool, and find you want to change the perspective, you have to change tools to the new perspective crop tool. In the process, you have to tell the newly opened dialog box that you don't want to crop, to get to the perspective tool, which now has reset to its defaults. You've lost your cropping and you have to start over.

I've been using the crop tool without any knowledge of the little boxes you can fill in to restrict its WxH dimensions. I always wanted my crops to come out at a 2:3 ratio and could never get them perfect since I was just eyeballing it.
So then I found the WxH controls and if I put "2 in" for width and "3 in" for height, my image will come out as desired, no scaling of the image, but with the unfortunate side effect that my DPI has been changed, which causes problems for me later on. Now if I put "2 in" x "3 in" and then specify 72dpi in the "resolution" field, it will actually scale my image which is not what I want either. Now if I put "2 px" by "3 px" of course it will massively scale my image, which again is not what I want.
What I want is to re-crop my image to a 2:3 ratio, WITHOUT scaling, AND without modifying DPI. Is this possible with the crop tool? It seems that my WxH numbers are required to have units after them and I don't want any of those units (inches, px, mm, etc). I want unitless cropping, basically cropping by ratio. Does this make any sense?
I have a work-around which involves batch resetting all my DPI's at the end of the session. But that adds another step to my workflow which is not a very elegant solution.

The thing is this: I have some paths (shapes) that I want to combine into one path and trim all the excess path lines. I can put the paths into the same path-layer by just copying/pasting that works fine, but the paths are still NOT really combined.
I have made an example to illustrate my point, please have a look at that.
1) I've created paths 1 and 2
2) I combined them into another path-layer
3) Thought the thing I need is anchor points at the intersection so I added those
4) When I delete the anchor points whithin the combined shape, the whole shape distorts and it shows that it really is not a combined path but just two separate paths in the same layer! I can't seem to trim the red marked lines off the path.
My question basically is how to remove the red marked part of those paths and combine them into a 'really-one-path' shape that follows the outline of the combined shape?
I have tried to create an outline path by turning the combined path into a selection and then create a path from that selection, that doesn't produce a nice smooth path when the shape is more complex...

I have a few of layers that have transparency, and I want to save them out as Transparent PNGs. For whatever reason when I saved it as a transparent PNG it is exporting it bigger than it should. It doesn't trim them to the non transparent pixels, instead it renders them out at full size. I used both Save As and Save for Web commands, and neither are trimming the files. When I tried File>Scripts>Export Layers To Files…, 5 out of 6 work perfectly when exported as PNG, but only once. I used layers mask on the layers and I check this last layer multiple times even flooding it with black and then marqueed a random area in white, and it still exports it at canvas size and WONT crop the images to just the visible pixels. Basically it is NOT ollowing the Alpha.
I am in Photohosp CS6, and I am experiencing this issue on both MAC OS X and Windows.

I have a large picture that a part of which I have on a layer. The image itself is much larger than the layer itself. So when I chose transform, the edge marks/lines are way off the layer screen. I need to drag these layers to a new PS file of the same size and I dont want to bring over the entire huge image layer. Is there a way to have PS inverse select all alyer content not on the layer itself and trim it?
