Photoshop :: Automate / Batch Cropping 1000 Images - Not Working Properly?
Jun 4, 2012
I may just be missing something here. If I open an image in photoshop and crop it, the image shows up at the new cropped size and I can then save the new image. I have 1000 people images with all different sizes but the same ratio. My hope is to create an action that crops a photo to a standard size and then saves into another folder.
So I started my new action and did the crop and saved. Then I ran this action using automate and batch. The processing does happen but the images are cropped and then remain in a black box the size of the original photo. This is a problem for me... I only want to see the resized photo.

I have a batch of 1000 images that all need to be processed with the exact same levels adjustments and the exact same crop command. I recorded the necssary actions in photoshop, and I can now open up approximately 20 of my images and batch apply the actions to all 20 images automatically. The trouble is that I have 1000 images to process like this, and I can't open all 1000 in photoshop at once; it just kills my machine. I don't want to do the whole 1000 in little batches of 20 either. I'll be getting a new pile of 1000 images to process like this every day or two, so I need a way to do the whole 1000 automatically without user intervention.
Is such a thing possible?
I'm a software develoeper by profession, so if doing this sort of massive batch processing requires any command line work or scripting then I would totally be up for that.

I would like to remove a very specific bold yellow from some images. I want to automate this by throwing this into photoshop's automate tool and running over hundreds and hundreds of images. I have no problem creating the macro, the problem is that my image doesn't contain this yellow color (some of them do not), the 'select' action doesn't work so any subsequent actions fail.
What I have tried:
* Select the color and fill with white. If the color doesn't exist, the entire image gets filled.
* Select the color and cut, then replace background layer with plain white -- If the color doesn't exist, get error that 'cut' action isn't available.
* Force a yellow stroke somewhere on the image to try and remove it later -- Can't record brush strokes with PS!!!
Are their 'conditional' actions? There must be a way to do this, but I can't bring up anything on the web.

I am familiar with running actions and running an action on a batch of images. Can someone give me an effective technique for cropping a batch of photos? I need to take a bunch of photos in vertical and horizontal orientations and crop them to a specific size and resolution to fit on a screen for a slideshow.
The problem is there is no way to ensure that the photos crop correctly (e.g. cut off faces or important parts). Is there a technique or plugin, perhaps, that could at least ensure that MOST photos don't crop incorrectly?

I have a one-time project of scanning hundreds of slides off a flatbed scanner and I'd like to automate what's possible. I've been filling the scanner surface with slides and scanning them into photoshop and I've found the scan and crop feature that does a good job separating the slides on the large scanned image into separate images. But, this would go a lot faster if I could automate the last step. Ideally I could just scan in a large number of images each consisting of many different slide images, and I could have photoshop process the files, producing the smaller images.
I feel helpless without a command line interface, though. Does photoshop have a scripting language? I'm only using photoshop for this one purpose so I'd rather not learn it unless it's based on a common language. Any suggestions to my specific file processing question, or how I'm going about the entire process ...

I need to manually crop thousands of pics and want to semi automate the process. I assumed i
could create an action with a stop (at which point i would do a manual crop, because each
image is different) and then continue with the saving. So i opened an image, started
recording, immediately inserted the stop, resumed recording and saved. But when i run
file>automate>batch the first image opens and the stop dialog appears (with my message) and
the options to continue or stop. At that point (at the stop) it does not allow me to
manually crop. Why not? If i press continue it saves and then opens the next image..... If i
press stop another dialog comes up asking to continue or stop, i still cannot manually crop
and pressing stop at this second box stops the entire batch process. How can i get the
action to stop at each image so i can manually crop and then continue with the save and open
the next one? I thought this is what the stop function was for. A quote from the manual;
"Actions can include stops that let you perform tasks that cannot be recorded (for example,
using a painting tool). Actions can also include modal controls that let you enter values in
a dialog box while playing an action."
Sure, except that as usual from adobe, you either have to be a rocket scientist or a mind
reader to figure out how to make it do what you want to do. Anyone know how to do this?

When batch processing actions in Illustrator, it will not allow me to change the Transparency Resoluition and I have over 1,000 eps files to process. You can only select from the dropdown by doing it manually. The "default" or preset is Medium. I need high res.
This is what I need to do to 1,000+ eps files.
1. EPS file is open in Adobe Illustrator CS6 on Windows.
2. File > Save As> filename.eps > Desktop
3. EPS Options > Transparency > Preset: [High Resolution]
4. OK
When you automate this through batch processing an action, you cannot select [High Resolution]. [Medium Resolution] is selected as default. I need for all my files to be [High Resolution].
My printer software will not read the cutlines on any other file formats so they must be High Res EPS files.

for seafloor mapping. My biggest one so far consisted of 15.000 images. Unfortunaletly, I can't do them in one step, I need to produce submosaics of up to 250 images and then stitch them together manually after rendering.
Since I reach limits, some exchange of thoughts concerning "extrem photomerging" would be great. Has anyone of you similar experience with photomerge compositions that big?
What hardware would you recommend for maximum photo merge performance (PC only)?
Unfortunately, with CS3, Adobe eliminated the option to load the images to the image tray only, without any attempts of Photoshop to merge the images first. This sucks, of course. So I have to use CS2 still for the composition and CS3 only for rendering. Does anyone know whether CS4 has got the manual option back?

I am trying to setup a batch file. I am taking gif images with transparent backgrounds and wanting to convert. Need to flatten image, change mode to rgb and save to jpg. For some reason when I use the automate after recording, and I set source folder and destination folder, images sent to the destination are exactly the same as original, gif transparent? Nothing seems to be happening to the images?

I'm seeing a strange issue when I automate an action in Photoshop CC (14.0). I have a simple action that does three things in this order:
1. Flatten Image
2. Convert to 8-Bit
3. Add some standard file info
When I run the action from the action menu it works fine. However when I have multiple images open and I want to run them all through the action using "Automate->Batch", it gets run in this order:
2. Convert to 8-Bit
3. Add some standard file info
1. Flatten Image
The same process in CS6 does not have the issue.

I was wondering if on Photoshop 7, CS5 etc, is there a way to automate a batch feature directly on an image from right click of the mouse? Example, I have an image that I want to change the canvas from 200x300 pixel to 500x500. Currently I have to right click, change image size than the canvas size. Looking to see if there is a way with one click of the mouse to run my batch feature that does this function.

I am converting tiff files to jpeg using the Automate then Batch Actions. I select my source folder and Destination folder. The program converts and send the jpegs to the Destination folder but it is also sending a copy of every jpeg to my DESKTOP. Nothing in my Destination folder shows the desktop as a destination. I set up a destination file on my e drive and it still sends the photos to the desktop.
I am using CS2 Photoshop.

When I first installed Photoshop and tried Automate to put watermarks on my photos, everything worked fine. I gave that a break for a few months and today was trying to watermark some new photos. Since then there has been a driver update for my AMD Radeon HD 7900 to the Catalyst 12.8 drivers. I have the latest Photoshop downloaded from the website.
Now when I try to use Automate and Batch, it starts then crashes abruptly. I've exhausted all efforts and have Googled for hours. I've tried uninstalling drivers to the 12.6 version of Catalyst, uninstalled Photoshop, reinstalled. Same problem. Under Performance, the Sniffer detects an error in the display driver. Some have suggested using software to sweep for old driver files. That's the only thing I haven't tried.
I know people had the same issue as this, but had to do with TWAIN but I don't have a scanner installed. I'm using Windows 7 64-Bit on an Intel Core i7-2700K
Here's the system info:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00) x64

I'm running Photoshop CS5 on a PC with Windows XP pro, Core 2 Duo E4400@2GB, 4GB DDR2 RAM, MSI MS7350 Mainboard, ATI Radion X1050 Graphics card, 1 Analog LCD screen and one digital. I'm using an empty 1TB drive for a scratch disk.
My Photoshop CS5 runs flawlessly UNTIL I try to batch-process anything. If I go to File>Automate>Photomerge, no problem, but when I go to File>Automate>Batch, the second I hit Batch, I get an error message telling me that Windows has to shut down Photoshop. I never had this problem with CS4, which I never deleted and have to use when batching.

I double click on <Set Layer style on current layer> and change to a new Layer Style for my Watermark Text. The <Contour> is Linear. The Actions panel turns red during editing. But when I run > Automate > Batch and select that edited Action, the <Layer Style> screen pops-up for each photo and the only way to finish the batch of photos is to click <OK> for each photo. I’m using Photoshop CS5. I have refresh Photoshop, restart my laptop but the problem remains.
I did another copy of the original Action and just changed the value in <Text Layer> and it works in the Batch processing. This problem only happens when I changed the value in the <Layer Style>.

Is there a way to automate the process so PS recognizes longest side and it height/width and enlarges to 1000 pixels. If so, what is the magic formula?

I'm an animation intern working for an animator who does things old school.
She gives me hundreds of animation cells to scan using her scanner into photoshop CS(nothing), using the scan utility in photoshop. the result, as we are doing it, is hundreds of separate image files. i then copy and paste each of these image files into another custom sized file as separate layers.
i know there must be a way to automate this or do it with an action, but i cannot figure it out. if you think this isn't possible with photoshop CS(nothing) i have CS3 available to me on my personal laptop.

I photograph volleyball tournaments. The pictures I take are about 2800 x 2000. I crop out the best 1000 x 1000 or so so that the largest side is no more than 1000. I do this by drawing out a square on every image until I widdle it down to the appropriate size.
What would really be nice is telling photoshop that i want my square to be 1000 x 1000 then I can move it around on the image and crop out the best area. This way all my images would be exactly 1000 x 1000 instead of 1000 x 952 etc.
How can I set up photoshop so that I can just open image after image and just throw the presized crop area onto each image and go from there??

I scanned a bunch of photos of different sizes with my scanner into one big image because it was faster to do it this way. I thought I would make a new action after making a rectangular marquee tool. The action involved the following:
1. Copy
2. Make new image
3. Paste into this new image
4. Do auto Adjust
5. Save
It works for the first image but the next time I make a mark over a different size image, the new image has the same dimensions as the previous one although the selection region has a different geometry. So I added a menu item in the action after step 5 which was "Purge All". It still does not work.
The preset in the new image is "Clipboard"

I am using version X4, which I am new to, having bought it just a week ago.
I have approximately 70 jpg images I'd like to add borders to. All of the images will have the same color and thickness.
Is it possible to create some sort of batch process that automatically adds borders to all 70 images? Right now, I've been adding borders one-by-one to the images. It got tedious after the first dozen.
If there is a way to automate the procedure? If so, what must I do? If it's possible, will all 70 images be re-saved automatically, as well?

CS6 (Design & Web Premium)! Beautiful interface with terrific power. Just updateded from CS4.
ISSUE in PS CS6:
When I'm retouching with a tool (like the clone tool) consecutively (maybe 7-12 times), I get a "bink" sound, as if the tool has locked up. I can't use hot keys (keyboard short cuts) to undo, resize or resample without getting this "bink" sound. I've clicked on the "move" tool then select the cloning tool (with my mouse) but that only works for 1 more spot.
The "bink" continues for any other hot key (keyboard short cut) operation. I don't want to purge history until I'm completely finished. Quitting / relauncing PS clears this but only until I use the tool consecutively a few times again. What is causing that and how do I fix it?
I'm a power user with 300 images to retouch on a very tight deadline. Eeeeep.Keyboard short cuts are my salvation.
