when I start photoshop, I get a message saying: "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software. GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences."
I have the latest graphics drivers installed, but this message does not always occur when I start Photoshop although the driver does not change. So, I guess there might be some other reason causing this error message.
I am running Photoshop on a Thinkpad with Windows XP Professional.

Adobe Update Manager says all programs up to date. Crashes most frequently occur when using Blur or other Filters. 12.0.4 says it applies to AMD Catalyst, but my PC has Intel processor. It says it applies to CS6, but I have PS 5.1.

I opened a file I had been working on yesterday on a different Mac, and got the error message: "3D functionality is currently disabled due to OpenGL being disabled." I am currently using MacBook Pro (2008), running Mac OS 10.9, using PhotoShop CC. I've already looked at Ps Preferences>Performance and I see this.

My laptop has this chipset as it's graphic card: Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset
I'm running Vista Home Edition with 3G RAM and I just updated the graphic card drivers.
Photoshop's GPU options are greyed out, and I can't use the rotate tool. Does this chipset simply not have the capacity to support whatever the program wants, or am I just not configuring something right?
The laptop is an ASUS F80L (which has not much information online itself).

When I start Photoshop, I get the message, "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video adapter manufacturer's website for the latest software. GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences."
I have updated everything but this message still pops up everytime I open Photoshop CS4. Not only that, I tried to enable the GPU enhancements via Preferences but my Photoshop keeps crashing every time I try to click or do anything.

I'm running Photoshop CS6 on a virtual machine. (That sounds weird but believe me when I say it works fine in a VDI environment and that's not the issue.)
When it launches, it predictably throws the familiar error message 'Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver," etc etc. This error message is expected since it's the VMware Tools driver.
What I'm wondering is if there's any way to disable this popup. It says it has "temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware." What are those enhancements, and how do I disable them permanently?
edit: I have tried going into Preferences>Performance and tinkering with GPU options, but it's ghosted out as I have Design Standard.

I wish to have the ability to define runoff coefficient regions of a surface (using parcels, closed polylines, aecpolygons, mpolygons, etc...) such that when a catchment area is created, the weighted runoff coefficient is calculated. For a corridor surface, the runoff coefficient can be specified by the link code used to define the surface (defined in the code set style).
These surface coefficients should continue through pasting operations, i.e. a final design surface should have the runoff coefficents from the various corridor and grading surfaces used to define it.
Currently, I have to manually calculate the weighted runoff coefficient by first determining grass, aphalt, roof, areas per each catchment area.

Basically PS is freezing up temporarily, after 2-3 minutes then it becomes usaable again until it decides to feeze again. I do most of my editing in Lightroom, and only use PS because I like to just do soem finally touch ups if needed (bit of dodge/burn) and i like to use photokit sharpener (I like to brush in sharpening with actions i have created). So, i can't say for sure what initiates the freezing. Sometiems its while trying to brush in sharpening, other times it won't allow me to save.
I'm on Mac using Snow Leopard. 4Gb RAM. I use a logitech mouse. I had previous been using CS4 with zero problems.I've tried unchecking "save in backgrorund" as well as "use graphics processor"

I am using Photoshop CS6 right now.
I want to display all colors except black and white as red temporarily like this.
I want to check the area I forget to paint, so I want to display those 3 colors(red, black and white.).
My layer nest is like this.
Layer 0(this contains Black line)
Group 1
[
Layer 1(red)
Layer 2(cyan)
Layer 3(green)
Layer 4(yellow)
]
White Solid color layer
And I want to make the color of layer 1,2,3 and 4 red temporarily. Adjustment layer doesn't work.

I have a question about whether or not it's possible to temporarily "freeze" part of a Photoshop canvas so that you can work on the rest of the canvas without the frozen part being affected.
I know there are plenty of tricks that you can do with layers and layer masks, but if possible, I would prefer to have a completely separate function that works outside of all layer options.

I've noticed a strange bug with photoshop when working with a pen and tablet. I'm using the CC version on the latest Mac OS
While working on an illustration I'll frequently use keyboard shortcuts. command+z, i, r, z, option, etc. Someties after making a stroke with the brush tool, I'll go to undo with command+option+z and nothing will happen. Other keyboard shortcuts do the same thing—no response.

Any way to temporarily edit(like move) a linked layer via a hotkey (or a script through a hotkey) that will not affect other linked layers?
For example, i have layer A and B linked. I want to move A but not B. I don't want to temporarily disable the link in the layers, just a key to press that will temporarily ignore the linking.
It will really save time instead of shift clicking the link to turn it off...move the item...shift click to turn the item back on....i know it seems minor but it would really improve my quality of life since i tend to use linking very often when dealing with multiple layers that need to stay aligned to each other. This becomes especially handy when selecting like 10 layers and not having to disable the link on each one of them...then going back and enabling it.

Using X5 Ultimate Using the Edit function tab, and with several clips in the timeline, selecting one, then choosing clip mode and playing the clip in the view panel happily provides the clip embedded sound too. But occasionally, it doesn't. Generally after doing something related, eg today, I was recording a voiceover file to go with a clip, and when finished I just played the clip in clip mode - and just got images, but not the sound which is embedded in the clip (don't expect to hear the voiceover in that configuration). When it happens, I can get the sound embedded in the clip back by:
- choosing project mode, then playing the clip section; or
- changing the function tab to share, then back to edit, and then playing the clip; or
- saving the project file, closing X5 and then reopening both X5 and the same project file, and playing the clip.
Like, the control(s) that manage clip sound in the clip mode, play, seem to get "lost" during some edit functions and require a serious elbow jog to get back together.
Is there a control setting that prevents it happening in the first place?

I'm working on a design in Illustrator CS5 which has textures and drop-shadows applied to most of the objects. I want to make some changes to the colors, but it re-renders the effects each time I change things. Is there some way to globally disable effects and just display strokes, fills and gradients? I know about outline mode, but that's useless for editing colors. Surely I don't have to go through every object and disable the effects one by one and then turn them all back on later?

I have an assembly in a dynamic simulation and I would like to temporarily ground it for a few seconds until the motor within it spins up to maximum speed. I have thought about applying imposed forces on the assembly from several angles to prevent it from moving but ideally I would like to ground it or perhaps add brakes that dissapear after a specified time.

I have several parts that at a point in time come together and need to rotate together around a common point. However, when I animate them it will only let me rotate them around each individual part's axis. How can I temporarily link these parts to a parent dummy object so that I can rotate them together? I want this to happen midstream in the animation and after the rotation I will be decoupling the parts and having them do different things..

When working with selections - particularly when adding multiple Magic Wand selections to build the selection required - it can be difficult to see clearly (from the shading and outlines which show the current selection) what is selected already and what isn't - particularly at some zoom levels and depending upon the colour(s) of the pixels that you are working with (blue-greys, for example).
My suggestion, therefore, is that in any of the Selection tools, while you are holding down either of the modifier keys Ctrl or Alt (which would modify the Selection Mode of any further selection to Add or Subtract mode), all currently selected pixels should be temporarily highlighted - overridden by a single colour (say, your current primary colour?) with the shading (and outlines?) that normally depict the currently selected pixels removed. This would make it easy to visually confirm exactly what pixels are currently selected.
Perhaps the removal of outlines ought to depend upon the magnification that is currently being used: at high magnifications where each pixel is depicted by a relatively large screen area and the outline can be easily distinguished from the interior of each pixel, then outlines (perhaps of your current secondary colour?) might work to define the selected area, but where pixels are very small it might be best to remove them.
Also, as a visual indicator/reminder of the modification which the modifier key will make to the effect of the next selection - and one that is slightly larger than the minuscule plus or minus sign that appears in the mouse pointer - would it be easy to temporarily override the Selection Mode symbol showing in the tool selection toolbar, with the symbol for the modified effect, whenever the modifier key is depressed? Not forgetting that this symbol ought to change again if the Right Mouse Button is used instead of the Left.
If the above is easy, then, in the Magic Wand tool, could the Flood Mode symbol in the tool selection toolbar be similarly temporarily overridden with the Global Flood Mode symbol, when the shift key is used to override Contiguous Flood Mode?

I'm new to Adobe After Effects and trying to adjust audio levels on the timeline using key points. This works great for db levels but the maximum level that can be set is -48db and this is still allowing some audio to "bleed through". I can mute the audio for the whole track, but that's not what I want - I want to mute the track at certain keypoints on the timeline.
I can't see any way to do this in After Effects.

I had Photoshop CS6 installed and working on my Mac using Adobe Creative Cloud. However now a dialog appears that says "Help Improve Adobe's Product". Regardless if I approve this dialog or not Adobe Photoshop starts up with every menu option grayed and I can do nothing. I have to force quit the application. At this point it is 100% unusable.
I've googled it and seen others with a similar issue but no solutions found. I have OSX 10.8.3.
Others with similar issues. URL....No real solution other than don't use Mac Keeper (which I do not) URL....

have had the good fortune to have recieved a Christmas present (o.k. to myself) a new Dell 30" monitor with 2560 x 1600 resolution.
The only thing I am finding troublesome as you might be able to see by the attached screen shot, is that now my autocad menus are, as expected at the top of the screen. This new size of monitor brings with it the problem that you now have to travel your mouse a great distance to reach the menu bar items.
