Photoshop :: Adjusting A Grayscale Scan
Jul 2, 2008
a grayscale scan of a line drawing with small text. The lines and text, which should be black, are gray. And the background, which should be white, is a light gray.
The lines should be 100% black, but I'll take what I can get. I fiddled with curves and contrast and stuff, but when I'd get the background adjusted so it was completely white, then the lines weren't dark enough.
And of course converting to a bi-level bitmap made the lines and text all pixelly
this will be offset printed, so it needs to be high resolution.

I'm keen to reduce into A4 equivalents. I was told Photoshop would be able to cope,
I need to use layers and canvas size etc. and maybe dragging across assuming I've scanned the two halves of the A3 correctly/accurately?

I upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and need to be able to import using TWAIN so that I can scan at 256 colors like I used to be able to with CS3. I cannot convert to 256 colors afterwards as the quality is too poor.
I am using 64 bit Windows 7. I tried installing the TWAIN plugin in the Adobe/plugins/import folder but it does not show up in the import options after restarting PS. I wouldn't mind downgrading to PS3 if I have to.

I had to scan and resize. Original, physical picture is 1 1/4in X 2in. Scanned image requirements: resolution of at least 150 dpi, 600 X 600 pixels, 24 bit color, and keep it under 240 KB.
I have basic Canon scanner and CS2....

way to make a text animation in Image Ready. I'd like to have white or bright green text against a black background and have it display as if it was being scanned over. One wide stripe moving right to left exposing the text underneath then moving back, never exposing the whole word at once, just a section. I had thought I could make a black layer over the top of the text, clear away a scection and manually move the layer in IR, but to no avail. Sorry I don't have a visual example of it for you.

I need to find a photo that I scanned a year ago. It was scanned with a simple HP desktop scanner. I used photoshop CS to work with this photo, now I have photoshop CS2. When I try to open this image, it says that it doesn't recognize the format. The CS2 can't open it. I tried reinstalling the old photoshop and when I try to open this image, it isn't highlighted to open.

(used to Corel PhotoPaint where I have a command under "File" to "acquire" an image from an external scanner).
Is there a way to do it in Photoshop or do I look for another app in CS4 for that purpose?

If the photo has scan lines, then it has scan lines. the lines are now a part of the photo. they're not 'on the photo' they're in it. depending on how pronounced they are, they can be minimized. if you post a copy, I'll show you how. (maybe, no guarantee it can be saved)

I'm not a neither a novice nor a pro when it comes to Photoshop. (Just somewhere in-between) . . . So don't understand why I''m suddenly having problems with colors in my photos looking accurate on my camera, but almost completely red and yellow in Photoshop. Initially though the camera was at fault, until I switched cameras and still had the same problem, so figured it must be Photoshop.
Since Photoshop CS2 has all the features I need, I've never bothered to upgrade. . . which turned out to be a problem when I tried to follow the instructions for creating new adjustment layers. (Was OK until I reached the last step, when my menus were different than those in the guide.) Have spent most of the last 2 days trying to manipulate all the options under the Image Adjustment menu, but am running our of patience and luck.

"Adjusting tsume
Tsume reduces the space around a character by a specified percentage value. As a result, the character itself is not stretched or squeezed. Instead, the space between the character's bounding box and the em box is compressed. When tsume is added to a character, spacing around both sides of the character is reduced by an equal percentage.
To reduce spacing between characters:
Select the characters you want to adjust.
In the Character palette, enter or select a percentage for Tsume . The greater the percentage, the tighter the compression between characters. At 100% (the maximum value), there is no space between the character's bounding box and its em box."
And this is what the icon looks like.
I have selected the text. But in the Character Palette, I just dont see it or cant find it.

I have a background layer in Photoshop (CS2) that needs to be converted to a spot color. I have tried to select the channels and adjust them that way (yes, the entire image needs to be all the same color, with lighter and darker highlights and shadows), but can't seem to adjust them just be selecting them.

please try this:
1) new image, grayscale
2) fill (say 96,96,96)
3) image->mode->rgb color
The pixels will be (95,95,95) and (96,96,96) when they should *all* be the same.
It also happens when you paste a black & white image into an RGB document because even though it has three 8-bit channels (by definition not grayscale) Photoshop decides to make it grayscale.
Is there a way to correct this ?

I got Adobe CS3 Master Collection. Everything is fine, but there is one problem: In Photoshop grayscale images look brown or sepia. The screen itself is neutral, no color tints and I installed the driver. This problem only appears in Photoshop, Illustrator and not in other programs like Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Corel and ACDsee. In those programs grayscale pics look neutral. It has no effect when I disable the color management in Photoshop. RGB pics look great. When in desaturate RGB pics they look neutral grey but as soon as I convert them in grayscale, they become brown. In Photoshop's color managemet I can select a profil for RGB colors as you can see in the screenshot, but for grayscale I couldn't find a profil. Even in the internet I couldn't find one for my monitor.
