View 3 Replies View RelatedI read the Photoshop Windows (read only) thread, titled "Scanning old photos", at [URL]......... I found Robert Shomler's answer useful, even though I am using an i Mac.
I have been using Epson Scan Version 3.01A and the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner to scan reflective photos for over three years. I started using Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard, and Photoshop for the first time, last month. My iMac is about one year old, and System Preferences shows its Display profile as i Mac.
I am befuddled by Epson Scan Version 3.01A's Color Configuration settings. I believe that I've been using the default Color Control, Continuous auto exposure setting for all these years, accept that I apparently changed Display Gamma from the default of 1.8 to 2.2.
I tested scanning the same originals with both the Color Control setting, and the ColorSync, Epson Standard, Target sRGB setting, as TIFF's. The resulting TIFF's look radically different in color, when displayed with Preview and Photoshop. The images resulting from the ColorSync, Epson Standard, Target sRGB setting more closely resemble the originals, except they appear to be a little flat.
At the moment, I have the Photoshop color working space at sRGB IEC 61966 2.1. When I open one of the scans done at the Color Control setting, select Assign profile sRGB IEC 61966 2.1, and check "…convert document to working RGB", I don't see any change in the color. The color does not change to look like the scans done directly to sRGB IEC 61966 2.1. Is that right?
I notice there is also an option to Assign profile Epson Perfection4490 - reflective. When I try this, the color changes to something different from both of the aforementioned test results.
Corel X4, still installed on my PC, has no problem at all.But Corel X6 (CorelDRAW as well as CorelPHOTOPAINT) crashes after the preview scan with Epson Scan (EPSON Perfection V330 Photo) in professional mode. When I use the simple mode (which does all automatically: preview scan, border recognition, best guess about resolution and color mode and the final scan) there also is no problem.
But I wonder what the TWAIN driver does with Corel X6 after having finished the preview scan ..I already tried to uninstall and reinstall the (latest) driver suite from EPSON without success.
If your scanner manufacturer does not support scanning in 64-bit mode, or you have issues scanning with TWAIN, you can scan into Photoshop CS6 using Apple’s ImageKit technology, which is built into Photoshop CS6, does not need a plug-in to be installed, and provides access to a large number of scanners.
That doesn't work with my Epson Perfection V350 Photo. I wonder if it actually works with any scanner. With Photoshop CS6 have wiped out many scanners that don't have 64-bit compliant drivers, why doesn't Adobe connect with Apple's Image Capture app? Why doesn't the V350 work with the ImageKit technology alllegedly part of Photoshop CS6?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Photoshop Elements 6 to Elements 11 on a brand new iMac running OS X 10.8.2, but Elements 11 will not recognize my Epson Perfection 4990 PHOTO Scanner as an option to import from when I click on "File" then "Import." Is there a Plug-In that may be missing for this to operate as it used to in Elements 6 running on an older G5 Non-Intel processor? I don't have the new Elements 11 Disk to copy anything from, since I downloaded the program directly from Adobe.

I upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and need to be able to import using TWAIN so that I can scan at 256 colors like I used to be able to with CS3. I cannot convert to 256 colors afterwards as the quality is too poor.
I am using 64 bit Windows 7. I tried installing the TWAIN plugin in the Adobe/plugins/import folder but it does not show up in the import options after restarting PS. I wouldn't mind downgrading to PS3 if I have to.

If the photo has scan lines, then it has scan lines. the lines are now a part of the photo. they're not 'on the photo' they're in it. depending on how pronounced they are, they can be minimized. if you post a copy, I'll show you how. (maybe, no guarantee it can be saved)
