Photoshop :: 9.01 New Extra-clicky Menus
May 16, 2006
After updating to 9.01, menus require an extra click to regain focus from non-maximized document windows. In other words, if I use a tool directly on a non-maximized image, I must then click twice on File, Edit, Layer, etc., before a menu drops down. (Specifically, the first click has to land somewhere on the main PS title/menu bar to return focus to the menu bar; toolbars don't count.) The double-clicking gets old fast.
There's no similar behavior in reverse, when applying a tool after a menu command. If the document window is maximized, menus pop open instantly as expected.
Is this extra click a "feature" that didn't make the list of changes? : I don't see a bug report section anywhere,

I recently got a new drawing tablet (Monoprice Graphics Tablet) and i set up everything perfectly fine. However, i opened photoshop cs6 and when i draw, there would be an extra line. when i draw a semi circle, it automatically completes the gap with a straight line when i lift the pen up or stop drawing and it's really bothering me.
Here is a gif that i made to demonstrate what i mean: (click if it doesn't move)also... my lines appear to be sort of jittery or non-smooth. even my mouse looks smoother than when i use my pen..

I'm current working on some anime mangas (basically comic books for those who don't know) for cleaning as well as de-bubbling. I was able to create a action script to easily remove all the characters within the text bubbles but I'm trying to come by a more efficient way. My current method is nearly flawless when it comes to round or square text bubbles/boxes as well as some slightly complex ones. But when I come across extremely complex bubbles my method cuts corners and remove areas I'm not intending too...so my question is this..
Let's say I use the magic wand tool to select inside the a text bubble I'm trying to clear...So currently it has the white background of the inner bubble selected as it surrounds the text I'm trying to remove. Is there any quick command or shortcut that can select everything within that area?...Atm I have a action script set up to expand by 8 pixels and then contract by 11. This way it can expand to select the characters I'm trying to remove, and the contraction will bring it right back within the vicinity of the bubble. It's then followed by a paste pattern which I've set up to match the feel of the page. But yea...trying to figure out if theres a way to just select the insides in a different way...a method that doesn't expand and contract...yet has similar results. I was trying to look around for a function in photoshop to just select area's within the marquee's inner untouched areas.

Until recently when I saved a 1000px x 1000px file as a jpg at 10 in CS6 on a Mac with Snow Leopard, the resulting file would be about 600-700k. Now the same process results in at file twice that size, about 1.2-1.5 mb. I have tried everything I can think of to find the source and correction for this phenomenon. Save for the Web works normally.

I have a slew of psd files that were saved with maximum file compatability turned which left them incredibly bloated. Is there a trick to saving them which gets rid of the overhead left by maximum file compatability short of rebuilding every file from scratch? I'm guessing 20% savings on size would not only save space but speed things up too.

I have an iMac which had 4 gb of ram. Photoshop defaulted the usage to just under 3 gb. I installed another 8 gb of ram but PSE fails to recognise the extra ram so I can only get it to use 3gb. If I reinstall will it recognise all my ram? Will I still have all my photos on the organizer?

A way to revert the icon for the lasso tool to its old self... or at least turn it into a simple cursor.
The lasso tool in this new Photoshop version suddenly forces you to see a double image: both the original lasso and a cursor above it that points to the actual connection point. This setup is annoying as hell and no - I haven't gotten used to it.
The tool ends up so large that it's obscuring part of what I want to select... not to mention that my instinct wants to see the connection point on the tip of the lasso. What was great about the original lasso was the fact that the icon itself was so thin that it didn't obscure what I was trying to select. Not just do I suddenly have an icon that's twice as large, the arrow is also thick and opaque - it's very much in my way and totally counter productive! I can understand wanting to make things more unified... but this is not the way to do it.
At least give us the option to have the lasso show up as either an arrow or the old tool. You're allowing us to show the pen tips as cursors... why not include that choice for the lasso tool too? A simple dropdown on the top when I select the tool would do the trick just fine. I might actually like having the lasso tool as a thin arrow instead of a lasso shape.
However - As it is now, it's a bad design and makes for a clunky tool that has two origin tips AND obscures my selection area.

When I command + click a layer or mask to select the contents therein I get the 'marching ants'. After flattening + copying the selection + creating a new document with preset sizes + and pasting the selection onto the new image I get a 1 pixel border around 1 edge of the image.
I can tell I have extra space because when I change the default bkg of the 'Background' layer to black I can see the black on one side...
First image shows my selection...
Second image shows a zoom of the selection... aka: it has no extra space
Third image shows the blk background behind the copy / pasted image to show the extra space that somehow got added...

Remove the white strokes from the blue background without deleting from that black letter!

I have installed CS3 and there is a lot of 'junk' that I don't want and don't need.
eg; Bridge, Device Central, Cue and Acrobat Connect.
For my basic needs, all I really want is PhotoShop and Acrobat (and maybe Illustrator.)
This other 'bloat' takes up valuable disk space.
If I just deleted the abovementioned stuff, would that effect my remaining programs?

I am using the type tool in Photoshop CS6 (windows XP pro) and I am running into this weird issue. I have never seen anything like it before. It isn't my keyboard or computer, it only happens in Photoshop. When I am typing and I mess up and use backspace to delete a character, the next character I type in gets doubled. Random letters will pop up as well - such as when I type "S", the letter "U" shows up... when I press the spacebar, it adds an extra letter instead of a space (the following letter or previous letter used). The cursor gets placed before that second character too. I can delete it using backspace or delete but then if I press spacebar to continue, it shows up again and again. I can't get rid of the extra characters!
I've tried activating and de-activating various key locks on my keyboard to no avail. Is there some button I pushed or weird formatting I somehow accidently implemented?

I've just bought Photoshop CS5 to stay on the upgrade path. In designing (or redesigning) the interface for CS5 and Adobe Camera Raw something seems to have gone awry.
Overlong Menus..Compared to CS4 two of Photoshop CS5's menus have lengthened so that they no longer fit on the screen of my MacBook Pro – the Edit and Layers menus. Thus, the bottom of the menu is off the bottom of the screen (or the top, if you are at the bottom of the menu). Now, it is true that the Edit menu has two more items (32 instead of 30) but the Layers menu has the same number (29 items). In CS5 all the menu text items are more widely vertically spaced leading (pun not intended) to this problem on a MacBook Pro.
The CS4 menus were perfectly legible before so why do this ? What purpose does it serve ?
ACR Disappearing Into the Dock:And using Adobe Camera Raw has a similar problem in that the the ACR window disappears into the Dock at the bottom of the screen. Now I've read Jeff Schewe's response to this in another post where he seems to think that those who use the Dock are in some way mentally deficient (I'm exaggerating to make a point) but, Jeff, some of us like the Dock and find its presence at the bottom of our screens reassuring and useful. BTW, Jeff, removing the Dock doesn't solve the CS5 menu problem. Seems to me to be sloppy design.
What would be better would be to ensure that the scale of the interfaces fits on our screens, would it not ?
Having felt I've been coerced into an early and expensive upgrade by Adobe to stay on the upgrade path is it not unreasonable to expect better?

I just recently reinstalled CS3 on a new computer, and I noticed some things are different from the other CS3 I had installed.
The most annoying thing I noticed is when I left click on one of the toolbar icons (e.g Rectangular Marquee Tool) I get a drop down box showing the other Marquee tools, as if I right clicked it.
I just want to be able to left click and select the active tool, not be bugged to choose which tool every time I click a tool with a drop down list..

I was wondering if it is possible to do drop down navigation menus in PS? The kind where when you move your mouse over a rectangle navbar link another rectangle navbar opens up beside this one with a list of relevant links.
Can this be done in PS as a sort of rollover in image ready perhaps? Could you just create the second navbar and have it hidden in the normal state but visible in the rollover state? Or is there a better way to do this?

I'm trying to make a drop down menu (er...drop side menu) all in Imageready. I made the main button and when you rollover it the side menu comes out but then when I try to click on one f theside menu slices they disappear. They dissapear because in the main button slice, i have them appear on the over state and dissapear on the out state. Is there a way to get them to work? Sorry if this is a little confusing. The only reason that I'm not following pank's tutorial is because I don'y have dreamweaver so I can't make layers like he said.

I am creating a new site to out line my web design business and I want to spice things up a LOT! I got close to the fire and realized that it was burning out of control with information I don?t currently possess. I want to create functional and appealing drop down menus without having to use much if at all possible no java script. I know you can accomplish this with style sheets but the problem is I don?t yet know how.
What I would ultimately like to accomplish is a horizontal drop down menu with multiple sub menus.

I just clean-installed PS CS6, previously coming from heavy PS CS4 experience. I extensively use tab to go to full screen for optimal viewing conditions, and I also used alt+key combinations to access the menus via keyboard and edit while in full screen. CS6 no longer allows me to do this. Is this a new limitation of CS6? Is there a way to make ALT+key menu access work again? since the tab fullscreen view is something I use very very often for undistracted analysis of my work.

I can't figure out how to customize popup menus. In particular, if I right-click a layer in the layer panel a huge list opens, there are far too many items that inhibit my workflow. All I want to do is hide some of them.
These are some I'd like to hide:
No Color
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Violet
Gray
Postcard
New 3D Extrusion From Selected Layer
New 3D Extrusion
I hope this is not impossible.

My new installed copy of Photoshop CS6 has a few problems:
1. When you go to save as the file formats selections are not what you get. For instance jpeg gives you EPS. Multi Picture Format gives you jpeg. What gives?
2. One of the plugins that worked fine under filters is missing. When I copied the things from the old CS5 plugins folder to CS6 folder it still is not showing up..
