Paint.NET :: Scaling Existing Image In Ratio
Dec 14, 2011
I have used paint.net for small photo touch-ups of my daughters. But now I'm starting a small business and actually starting to use more tools.
I had our logo done by a graphic designer and to save on money I am doing the layouts for ads, flyers, business cards etc. When I copy our logo into a new layer it is super big compared to my canvas size. I cant seem to figure out a way to scale it down in ratio. When I click on the corners it allows me to scale down, but not to ratio. When I select image-resize (Ctrl+R) and do a percentage it cuts off portions of the logo or select by absolute size it wants to change my canvas size.

I am a C# developer and not very familiar with coreldraw(when using with c#). My problem is that i am programmatically importing image on a curve using the following C# code.
d.ActiveLayer.Import(imgpath);// image path is path of the cdr file
var v = d.ActiveShape;
v.SizeHeight = 20.00;
v.SizeWidth = 15.00;
v.AddToPowerClip(s);
Now when i run this code the image gets placed into the curve bit it gets stretched vertically means the face of a student(that comes from imagepath) get stretched vertically..When i do this Manually with scaling and sizing ratio locked it gets properly inserted in curve....

My primary graphics task is working with application screencaps... mainly masking out private customer information, and sometimes overlaying 'dummy' data in its place. With a drawing program, the process goes like this:Draw a box somewhere near the field I'm masking.Use the color-matching tool to ensure that the box matches the field.Resize and reposition the box to exactly cover the field.(Optional) Repeat this process with a text box to present the 'dummy' data on top. However, my workplace requires us to use Paint, which doesn't support drawing actions like this (moving and resizing objects). Is there some other way to accomplish this task with the tools Paint does have?

I didn't realized that as I'm importing images, the 'background' was defaulting to white. I'm working a couple images right now, in which the transparent setting is really needed. I found where to change the default, but not how to change it for existing images in PS already.

I have an image which is simply a one color gradient, with transparency from nothing to something. I would like to be able to access the existing gradient on the image and change only the color. I have hunted high and low and cannot see how to do this.
(I am familiar with how to make a new gradient and how to change the colors in a saved gradient via the gradient dialogue. But for the life of me, I can't see how to access an existing gradient on an image and change only this one parameter.

I am trying to create a script (that I can run on a batch of images) that will resize the images to a set width but will maintain the proper aspect ratio of the images. There are many images and they are all different dimensions.
I want to resize them for webpages to a standard width (300) and have the height be automatically adjusted to the new width (proper aspect ratio).
When I try to create the script, it automatically uses the aspect ratio height of the image that was used to create the script.
When it runs on additional images it automatically sets their height to the height of the first image (used to create the script). As all of the images have different dimensions, the end result is wrong.
Is there a way to write the script so that it will maintain the proper aspect ratio of multiple images, all with different dimensions?

I have run into an aspect ratio (i.e., 1.25 vs. 1.33) issue for my images (using PhotoShop and/or Microsoft PhotoEditor):
I've created documentation for nearly ten years for an older type company using a CRT monitor. The monitor allowed me to use all resolutions when working with images without any screen degradation. Generally I used a resolution of 800 by 600 but would change, if necessary, due to the project. At this point, I've been given a new LCD monitor and am at the mercy of its native resolution (i.e., 1280 by 1024) even at a higher DPI. In other words, if I work with images and text other than its native resolution (i.e., highest resolution), their appearance is distorted and/or blurred. Since my documentation is image and/or graphics intensive, this is an issue for me to consider.
The first issue regarding this change came about this week. I was asked to revise a section of a manual I created awhile ago. Thus, I found myself saving images in a screen resolution of 1280 by 1024. The original document saved images in a screen resolution of 800 by 600. I feel I can get away with things if its only a few images. However, if I have to revise complete sections; I just don't think things look consistent. For one thing, I'm now using ClearType Font on the LCD monitor vs. the old CRT.
I would like to see if there is a way to somehow change an image saved in 1280 by 1024 screen resolution to 800 by 600 (with similar quality when revising documentation). If not, I think I'll inquire about using two monitors at my desk - using the CRT for revised documentation and LCD for new projects. Agree/Disagree with this scenario?

I'm trying to resize some images to a specific Aspect Ratio of 524x250. I was told to divide the height of a image by the width then you get a number and with that number you multiple it by the height then you put that resulting number into the canvas sizes width. It has been a while since I've done this brief calculation and it's not working for me, or I've wrote something down wrong. I'd also would like to create an action so photoshop could figure this out automaticlly, basically I'd like to know how to do it manually then how to create an action so it's done automatically ?

I just imported an image into AutoCAD 2012 and I need to resize the height without the width being resized as well. I guess I could use a program like Photoshop to do it before importing but I was wondering if this could be done within AutoCAD.

Is it possible to use the scaling handles (nubs?) on a layer when it is zoomed in?
I'm working on a technical drawing with several imported layers and fairly high resolution (600 dpi). All areas of each layer must precisely register with corresponding points on the other layers. However, as they were imported, there were several pixels difference between them. If I zoom out to the window, I see the scaling handles at the edges and can move any side or corner to rescale the layer, but the resolution is too low to see the image well enough to place it precisely. If I zoom in, I no longer can access the scaling handles.
I would like to zoom in to one corner of the image and align all the layers, then go to the opposite corner, zoom in, and adjust that corner into alignment without changing the first corner.

I have been using Coreldraw for a few years now but I have never had a problem with scaling images. I created a circle and added some shapes to it. There is spacing between the shapes and the circle and they do not touch each other. When the image is at page size and it looks fine. But when I scaled it down using the shift key the shapes in my images touch the side of the circle and the spacing is gone. This is not what I want. There needs to be spacing between the shapes and the circle. I have included a sample of what I am talking about. How to make Coreldraw scale images properly?

I am trying to find a faster way to save my images. I shoot in raw, save raw images as jpegs after editing them in Camera Raw. I am using Photoshop CS6 on a Mac version 10.7.5. When I save, I either have to save as a copy of the exisiting image, or replace the image I'm working on. Other forums I've read said to make an action to save and create a function key to make this process faster, but my function keys aren't working, and playing the action I've created still makes a copy of the image.

What is interpolation when scaling images in Gimp? it is under quality. I see there are None, Linear, Cubic, & Sinc (Lanczos 3)... what are these and which one is the best one?? and does it matter which one e.g. are they all the same?

I've imported an image into gimp, I then have imported another image using File open as layers.
Once this second image is imported it's obviously far too large, I want it to easily sit within the first image.
However when I right click > image > scale image it alter's both of them at once. It does this whether I have both images showing or not.

When I shrink an image, the result seems to be distorted.
I have an image 850x850.
I go: Menu > Image > Scale Image > and set height and width to 306 px
I get the same error no matter what scaling algorithm I use.
See images below, the one scaled by the GIMP has the black circle noticeable shifted to the right hand side. The white gap between the red and the black circles is 6 px on the LHS and it is 3 px on the RHS (measured at the widest part of the circles) . To compare, I have also scaled the image using another image manipulation program (IrfanView) - it scales it properly.
scaled by the GIMP....
scaled by Irfanview...
Is there any setting that you think I may have set incorrectly to get this problem? (Under the View menu, I don't have any "snap to..." checked.)
The test source file is the scaleBug.xcf attachment.
I'm on GIMP 2.6.11, Windows 7 64bit.

New Responsive Scaling feature is great.
It's enabled me to add an Edge Animate file to my responsive Wordpress site using the Edge Suite Plugin.
Only problem for me is that although the 3.7MB file I’ve created scales perfectly on all devices it struggles to play on smartphones. (I assume it's too big and too power hungry to play smoothly on smartphones - even since I've added a pre-loader.)
So, in an ideal world, what I need is a separate low res Edge Animate file that only plays on smartphones.
Failing that, I’d be happy with a 'Down-level Stage' image which could replace the Edge Animate animation.
For a moment I thought I’d found a solution when I came across this Adobe TV movie: [URL]
Unfortunately this clever solution only works when the new Responsive Scaling feature is NOT selected. As soon as it is selected, the animation no longer changes from one layout size to another when the browser window is reduced.
I don’t mind whether the fix is in Edge Animate, Wordpress or the Edge Suite Plugin - I just want a solution!

My knowledge (lack of, really) with content aware scaling is that 1st you create a new layer of the background and then rescale accordingly. I did the following: -
1- Created a 2nd layer
2- used quick selection tool on my main subject ( a person) and named it.
3- deselected the selection
4- Edit menu --> Content aware scale
5- resized it to something smaller (chose my previous named selection channel).
6- Pressed "Enter"
The result is that I can now see 2 images; the smaller sitting on the larger. What now? All I want is the smaller image. If I throw away the original layer what I end up is the new layer with the white and gray default background showing as part of the image (which ends up being printed as well or if saved looking as is with the grey-white. Is what I should do the obvious--cut out via cropping the un-needed (gray-white) part?

I have been given an incomplete plan view of a site with access roads and have been asked to extend the roads to meet up with a main road off site. Not having any survey points I figure the most accurate thing to do was to screenshot a Google map image, import it into my drawings and trace it. I'm struggling to scale the map image to my existing drawings.
The problem I'm having is when i click the image to scale, it obscures the view of the drawing, so I can't see anything to reference. Is there a way to make the image transparent? Or to have it permanently at the back.

Scaling - for some reason the image get distorted after scaling. see example:
Each time I scale it'll do it differently. this time it made the right side thicker.
Alignment - the bounding box has offset and when aligning it doesn't align the objects right:

So I am trying to make a site map for a building my buddy just bought. I found a lot map on the city's online database, cropped it to the area of his lot's block, and saved the image file. I then opened up a new autocad file and xreferenced the image. I know the front of his building on the site is 45' so I made a polyline that is the length of the facade over top of my xref image. Then I selected the image, used the scale command, selected one side of my polyline as a basepoint, used reference, entered 45' as the known length, and then selected the other end of the polyline. My image scaled but is now incredibly small. So small that the entine site isn't even 1". I keep trying but I'm doing something wrong somewhere.

I have a top banner for a website - the website is fully made in Edge.
The banner is 540px high, and 100% width. (Stage width is also set to 100%)
Now inside this banner, I want a large image to show.
The center of this image should correspond to the center of the banner.
The width of the image should be 100% of the banner. (Hence 100% of the browser window).
The height of the image should remain proportional to the width of the banner, i.e. no distortions. (Was using auto before)
The overflow should be hidden. (So basically the image is always 100% width of the browser window, and the height overflows both both up and down).
Somehow in ver 3 of Edge Animate I can't get all these options to work at the same time - can't use 100% width and auto height for an image anymore.
