I normally save my images as jpegs. What I'd like to know is can paint.net bet set to save as jpeg by default, to avoid having to change from .png each time.
Also, is there a way of short-cutting to the acquire screen, rather than going file > acquire > from scanner or camera > Select device each time - I only have one scanner, so I use that each time.
I perfectly understand that paint save as png to avoid get information loss..BUT Why don't you let us configure an alternative save as to get jpeg ? Like another short cut : e.g "ctrl+shift+alt s" would let us save as jpeg without loosing each time 5sec to change png to jpeg. because when you have to save 10-20 print screen in a row that's more than painfull.
give us a option to set jpeg as default ! and if you are so afraid that ppl forget that will make them loose information just make a pop up to remind them why the png can be more interesting for other situation.
personally, i use paint.net to save in a sec print screen, to add somes informations it in need to post a screen on a forum etc.. and this soft is perfect for that since it load in a sec and its simple enough and fast.consider add a OPTION to allow us set jpeg as default save as.
I perfectly know that png is more interesting in somes case, and i dont want discut about why png > jpeg, i just would like to be able to do what i want and have a option to set the jpeg as default.
I am changing from PSE8 to PSE12 and realized upon trying 12 today that PSE12 automatically saves my edited pictures in PSD format where PSE8 saved them in JPEG. I don't use the organizer for catalogs, instead opening up folders where I've saved my pictures (e.g. Christmas 2013)and editing the photos I like in PSE8 and then saving them back in that same folder. It may not be the 'right' way, but it works for me. The picture I tried using PSE12 on, saved in the PSD format which isn't viewable in those folders (windows picture viewer is the default). I truly only use PSE for improving pics I like and want to share/email, use as my desktip background, post to Facebook, and print for myself or gifts via uploading to a photo printing service (Mpix, Walmart, etc.) Is there a way to have PSE12 default to saving as JPEG or should I be saving everything as PSD? I get that PSD only works with PS and takes more space, but doesn't cause loss of quality of the pictures the way JPEG does ~ I'm just not sure it's important for the way I use PSE. \
I have been using Paint.net for quite awhile now and like it very much. There is one thing I would like to see, it would make using Paint.net easier. Right now the default setting for saving is PNG. Unfortunately I do not use PNG, the universal setting for just about anything is JPEG. Is there a way to change the default setting from PNG to JPEG? I downloaded and installed the latest versio, 3.5.10 but it made no differense. I have been unable to find anything about this in the drop down menus.
Paint.net auto saves my files as PNG. This is VERY annoying because I am saving many, many files. Each time I save I have to switch it to JPEG. If it is PNG I cannot see the file on my PC (it will be invisible). Plus, more programs use JPEG than PNG. This auto choosing PNG is a big waist of my time/energy/effort. is there an option to change this?
The plague has struck my X4. I have done absolutely nothing to the computer in over two years. I can't save a file as a JPEG to most folders using Save AS. It will save a file as a JPEG to the TEMP folder -- but the preview in which I can set compression does not show up. However, it still works well if I Export to Web.
I am running into an issue trying to complete processing of some images. I have converted a Canon CR2 raw file to TIFF, then opened into PSP X4. Now I wish to save as a JPG file. I've flattened & converted to 8-bit RGB. When I go to save it pops up an error stating: "An error has occurred while trying to write to the file". I can save the TIFFs, I can save to PNG, PSP, BMP, and presumably everything else. All except JPG--which is of course what is required. I can create an image from scratch and save to JPG. I've tried simply copying the image and pasting to a new image, then saving with the same error. Same with opening the PSP image back up & trying to save as JPG. I am updated to the latest patch just released.
PSP X4: I capture my images and do all processing in Adobe RGB. Now I want to save a low-res version as a JPEG file in sRGB color space. The save dialog tells me it will embed Adobe, but I want to save it as sRGB.
How do I change the color space before or while I save the JPEG?
Until recently, I was using the paint app of Windows 7. However, the office changed my laptop to a PC running Windows XP SP3.
I do a lot of documentation work and part of my job requires me to save screenshots for posterior use in product manuals.
My situation is this:
I have to save in .bmp format (office policy) and, by default, Paint.net saves in .png format.
Is there any way to set the Save default format to .bmp or any other format?
Secondly, when I save a file that contains a period in its name (for example "ch2.p16" - chapter 2, page 16), it will save the file but not in the format selected. Instead, Paint.net assumes that anything after the period is the file extension. Thus, the file is saved as "ch2.p16" with a file type of "p16".
Is there any way to bypass this glitch other than having to avoid using periods in the file name? (I've attached an image)
Paint.net seems to default (at least for me) to saving pictures as PNGs. I would like to change the default save type to JPG - how do I do this? And how do I change other defaults like scan types, etc?
However for business use I have a need to efficiently send .jpg files to various people and I often forget to change the file type so I have to reload the file, re-save the file, etc. and strangely, I can't seem to find the preferences menu to change this option. Where the default save-as file type can be changed to .jpg?
In vX1 I could save jpeg without substantially reducing file Mb size. In vX4, whenever I edit and save a jpeg file (using save & save as), it results in a reduced number of Mb's. Options in the 'save as' dialog are set at best. It would appear that PSP X4 is automatically optimising. Is there any way that the original file size can be retained on saving after editing?
When saving my created pictures i mostly choose JPEG save format, but the default type is PNG, Is there some setting to set the default to JPEG instead of PNG to avoid clicking on the choosing the desired file type under dropdown "Save as type" each time?
I’ve been using PAINT.NET, for a long time now.Today, I’ve created an account in the Forum, because I would like to ask, if possible and desirable for the Developers and the program Users, the following:
- make the default Tool - Rectangle Select;
- make the default save file type - JPEG (*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.jpe;*.jfif);
- allow the users to change the default workspace background color (now, Hex: #C9D3E2);
I have read the Rules and the FAQ.To finish I just would like to congratulate all of you, that have given us this fantastic piece of software (and for free)! I believe it’s the best freeware software available, counting all types for software/utilities/add-ons, etc.
1) From LR export to PS 2) Do all essential editings. 3) Save. File become 'xyz.tiff' now. (I want to keep this as master copy) 4) Crop to 4r, Save a Jpeg copy as 'xyz 4r.jpg' 5) PS save it as a copy, but do not automatically open the Jpeg copy. The tiff remains opened. I have to manullay Open, browse to it, and open the Jpeg. The 'Open Recent' list also do not list 'xyz 4r.jpg'. 6) Do 4r sharpening for the 'xyz 4r.jpg', save it.
Basically the files I want to keep and worked on is like this: NEF -> xyz.tiff -> xyz 4r.jpg -> xyz sml.jpg(maybe)
Now, it there a way in step (5) to have PS save the JPEG copy, and automatically open it? I don't care if the Tiff copy remains opened or not, I am done with it.
I got a new computer (Windows 7) at work this April and as of today, when I work on any of my JPEG images in PS CS5,suddenly it has defaulted its "Save As" to JPEG2000. How did this default change and how do I get it to default save as. JPEG again? There was nothing I noticed and no warning as to why this has changed, I didn't touch a thing!
(Last week, Adobe had to work with our IT manager to fix a problem that started occuring with my new Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 program. They had to log into my computer and change a registry thing to get it to work properly again...also something that changed without warning!!)
From the start, I wasn't able to save to jpeg without getting a dcm extension (no jpg extension). However, if I saved to Multi-picture Format, I would get the familiar .jpg and everything worked fine for a while. This morning I cannot find a file format in "save as" that results in the .jpg file extension.
I have a PSD file (16bits/prophoto RGB) with some layers. I combine the layers to ONE and change the bit depth to 8 bits. Then I do one of two things:
(a) I save the file for the web in JPEG 90% high-quality and with sRGB ... filesize 340 602 (b) I change the color profile to sRGB and save the file as JPEG in the highest quality (10) ... filesize 174 549
I am at loss here. How on earth is it possible that the second file is almost half the size as the one saved for the web?What effect causes this? It is very easy to save for yhe web but as long as the JPEGs are that bigger it's no option.
I am working on many files today and for some reason, even though they are JPG files, when I save them, the dialog box comes up and wants to save it as a PSD. It's wasting a TON of time because I have to change it to JPG even though the file is already. I tried the open as-JPG option on any of them and it gives me the error message of -"Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file". I'm in CS6 because there were too many issues with Photoshop CC.
I got a file that's only let me do Save for Web in jpg format. I choose png24, click save and it changes to jpg in the save dialog. Then I created a blank doc, copy everything from the problem file over to the new file and I can Save for Web in png just fine.
At my old job, when I exported sketches, it would automatically go to jpeg as jpeg was on top of the list. Now, I have to scroll through a lot of different formats looking for the jpeg format and of course, this takes up valuable time.
I make tech sheets in Illy at my job and need to export just about everything I do in jpeg format, for the benefit of others. I tried looking through the menus, but haven't found the answer yet.
I'm having trouble using the paint brushes in photo paint x6. i open a JPEG or bitmap then use a paint brush to paint on the image but there is no paint. do i have to use a mask now? I tried copying a dupe for a second layer to see if that worked but nix. i still have x4 and i do it there. but what's with x6? all the other tools work but the paint brush.
how to change the default setting under Jpeg options when saving changes, at present its ticked for Qulaity 12 Max but we want it on Quality 8 high and its a real pain having to change this setting every time we edit an image.
Photoshop CC is not among the programs listed and Windows won't let me add it to the list. Oddly, Illustrator CC is listed. How do I rectify this? I have Photoshop CS6 installed and that is listed. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.
