Paint.NET :: Game Textures - Creating Alpha Fade?

Dec 21, 2013

I make game textures. What I want to know is if there is a plugin that can create an alpha fade? So that, lets say, on the left side remains no alpha, but heading toward the right is a gradual fade into alpha.

The regular transparency plugin allows either the entire image or a selection within the image to become alpha. A way to simulate this is to make an image half black and half white.

Next select gaussian blur to have both sides bleed into each other from white to black then click black to alpha plugin in and that creates a fade from white to alpha. An alpha fade from the white to the black side of the image.

But I was hoping that there is a plugin that could ignore colors and create a gradual shift into alpha from one side of the selection to the other.

Photoshop :: Creating Game Textures From Photographs

May 20, 2003

I'm trying to make some textures for a 3d game with a digital camera.

If you look straight at a wall, and take a picture of it, it will be most likely that the edges of the wall won't all have the same color, because of lighting.

I have no problem getting the perspective and size of the texture right - my problem is getting the shades of the texture even, so that the final texture is seamless (i.e. if you place them next to / above each other, you get the illusion of looking at one image, and not a bunch of squares which don't fit together nicely).

Do some of you have some tips on what I can do to get rid of my problem? Is there some way to "even out" a specified color range? Do some of you maybe know some tutorials on the web which discuss this (I haven't found any )?

I can add shading in the .png file but then I can't render it properly as the shaded geometry messes up when I created the transparent background.

Paint.NET :: Creating Skyboxes For A Game

Feb 1, 2013

I'm trying to create a skybox (basically, a giant hollow cube that goes around a map to give the impression of a sky) for a game.

However, I don't know how to create a good sky and such that fits within the template and looks smooth all around.

Basically, the template is as follows: (note: this isn't actually the template. Each side is uploaded individually. The template is to show the wrapping.)

So how would I create a good, realistic sky that wouldn't look messed up at the corners or not matching up at the top or such?

GIMP :: How To Make Black And White Alpha Channel For A Video Game

Jan 31, 2013

I'm trying to make a texture for a model in a video game, and I want some of it to be transparent. This is done by editing a text file that tells the model to use the textures alpha channel. things in the alpha channel that are white are transparent and things that are black aren't.

But I don't really know how to edit the textures alpha. Here is a video I've seen that explains how to make one in photoshop: [URL]......

How to do exactly what he does in gimp? whenever i duplicate one of the rgb layers, it isn't black and white like it is in ps. i'm also not sure how to have it turn into the alpha.

Photoshop :: Creating Pre-multiplied Alpha Channels With PNG And Other Formats

Aug 7, 2013

I'm in a process of making assets for Unity3D engine and I'm making transparent png's with alpha channels premultiplied with black. My questions:

To this day I've been using superPNG plugin to add alpha channel because it was really hard to find option to do it in Save As... menu. Today I've found Export -> Render Video where I can choose PNG and premultiplication. Am I doing something wrong or is it the proper Photoshop way to export png via video function? It seems really hidden!I can do the same for TIFF, PICT(i suppose no pict for me because its pure mac extension?), and tga format with one black layer and ticking Alpha Channels box, but its somehow greyed out for PNG? Why is that?

AutoCad :: Creating Alpha-numeric Content For Production

For example the numbers '7 1 9' and characters 'U N I T' need to appear on screen exactly as they will be when CNC machined from metal.

I am not sure what the capabilities are of Autocad for this kind of work in terms of WYSIWYG and what kind of styles I can create. In particular my requirement is to have the alpha-numeric characters quite substantial and not 'thin' (so far I can only think of using bold).

After Effects :: Creating Separate Alpha Channel File?

Mar 9, 2014

I have created a short (<3 seconds) video comprised of 2 layers. Each layer was filmed as a green screen, and I used Keylight in After Effects CC to create a transparent background. My ultimate objective is to use the clip to create a transition for use in ProShow Producer, as described in the link [URL].....  To do this, I need the main video file, and a second file containing only the alpha channel.

I have used Adobe Media Encoder to output a FLV, and told it to Encode Alpha Channel, as was suggested, but I only get the one file (the main video). How do I get the alpha file?

I am using AE CC.

The android specifies image with following properties for the launcher icon(Will need 4 different image to support different screen size in mobile devices)

Launcher icons should be 32-bit PNGs with an alpha channel for transparency. The finished launcher icon dimensions corresponding to a given generalized

Screen density are shown in the table below.
1. 36 * 36 px
2. 48 * 48 px

what would be called repeatable textures for the program that I use which is called SketchUp a 3 D cad program , there are times when i use textures(pictures) on my models but they will repeat themselves over and over again rather than look seamless. I believe that the clone tool would take care of this but not sure how to create the image where it can be offset so I can use the clone tool.

I have a video that was made for photo shop users I believe corral will perform the same task just don't know how to get it to be offset.

Paint.NET :: How To Create Fade Effect

Apr 18, 2013

I've used Paint.net for quite some time, using it mainly for two-tone graphic art or pixel art. Quite a while ago, I created this cool effect that I'll demonstrate with images, however, I have literally completely forgotten how exactly I did it.

Anyway, here's the walk through process of the effect, it's a fade in, making it seem like there are clouds at the bottom of the silhouette that cover the black of the lower layer while doing so in a way that is like a gradient, but of course, not so linear and straight -

Here's the first image, ignore the shaft of light:

The 2nd image shows the silhouette, the shadow of a colossus, if you will. What I want to do is add something that blends the black to the background, so you can't see his feet:

The 3rd image here shows the first layer of fade (and the first layer only), this layer doesn't directly cover up the lower part of the silhouette but it does add some sort of cover for the lower parts of the main silhouette to create a more subtle blend as opposed to straight black over dark green:

This is the 4th image detailing the 2nd fade-layer, still separate from the 1st fade layer just to show them separately:

And finally, the fifth image showing both fade-layers, the silhouette and the background color:

Ok, so that's that. Basically, how did I do that? What did I actually do? I've been playing around with the image for quite a long time, and the whole reason I'm doing this is because I'm recreating the image in a much higher resolution but I want it to be perfect, of course, and want to recreate and remember this effect.

I think, but am not sure, that it may have had something to do with the "Clouds" option, found under "Render". Maybe the Gradient option and blurs.

Paint.NET :: How Do Fade Out Ends Of Image

Aug 26, 2012

I want to know how to fade something out. Like how the gradient tool works, but instead of a color, I just want it to be from background to transparent.

Lets say I have a line as my image, and that's all that's there. The background is transparent (no white background, in the program it's displayed as a white/gray grid of small blocks)
___________________

Theres my line. It's nice but I want the ends to smoothly fade out into the transparency. Like this

....,,,,________________,,,,....

I know that's a bad example, but where the line is full and thick is where it is just that. Full, thick, it's the line! But then the comma's, say thats where it starts to fade, by the end of the comma's, the line is 50% transparent. By time it hits the periods its faded by a lot, and goes from 50% transparent, to completely transparent.

I hope you understand what I'm talking about. And for actual use, I wont be fading a straight line. More a a curved design that I've cropped and want to have fade out on the ends.
