Maya :: Crash When Deleting History?

I am having a problem with Maya 2013 (Mac) crashing when I delete history. I have had this happen a few times in the past but only if I go a long time without deleting the history. I do it on a more regular basis now but this past week it has been doing it every time. I created a button on my shelf as a short cut for this and when I was first having the problem I found that if I just do it from the edit drop down then it worked fine...at first. Now it is crashing even when I do it from there. One instance I saved before I deleted the history and it crashed when I deleted. Then I restarted my computer and the first time I deleted it worked but next time it crashed. I have both service packs, I'm not sure why it is doing this all of a sudden.

Is there an easy way to delete several of the History lines all at once without getting rid of all the History.
I've been dragging each line to the trash bin but it's slow going if you have a lot to get rid of.

Can i remove the fx history ? for example i render a cfx clip. then i want to keep the render only and disconnect the relationship with its 'cfx history' . And is there any practical benefit of it ? You maybe will ask me : 'why do you wanna do it?' , my answer is " i don't know man, it just came across my mind .

i'm using PSCS4 and i'm trying to delete the "history" portion that was originally saved in my XMP data. i've gone to the "file info"->"advanced" window pane (tab) and deleted the "history" folder (like you suggested in your article a photoshop history lesson"), but the folder continues to reappear with all the initial history data. it appears like i delete the history folder, but then when opening up the "file info" window again, all the history is there like it was before i attempted to delete it.

I am aware we can change the order of history in maya. I have a specific situation i d like to solve and basically is this:
Say i have a 1x1 rectangle. Now i apply to it, say, 2 split edge rings. And then i apply a mesh/transfer attributes, so that this rectangle will basically snap to a chosen surface. If i edit now the edge rings positions, everything is cool and will work as expected, because these rings have precedence over the transfer attribute tool. So far so good. If i now add a new edge ring to that rectangle, as you are already seeing, will not be taken into account by the transfer attributes tool, as it lays after in the history tree. So my question is:
How will i put this last edge ring node before the transf. attrib tool? This would be really great for my topo workflow. So graphically, so that it is more clear i want this:
POLY---RING1---RING2---TRANSF.ATTRIB.---RING3
CHANGE TO
POLY---RING1---RING2---RING3---TRANSF.ATTRIB.
I suppose the natural way of doing it would be in the hypergraph... I gave it a shot, but i couldnt really do it. I studied the connections in hypergraph, but i couldnt even replicate.... Things like WORLD that need to be connected would show greyed out on the other side so i could not connect anything. What is weird is that this are the connections maya does, but if i try, it shows greyed out.

Whenever I make new objects like box, cylinder etc, I can't edit their properties like subdivisions, etc as if their history got deleted even though I don't delete it. They are made with pre-deleted history..

There seem to be some errors in the code for Modify > Convert > Displacement to Polygons with History. My scene uses an animated displacement map, coming from an image sequence. The displacement works as advertised, but I keep getting execution errors. Here is the code for the offending expression, which was created silently when I issued the conversion command:

The only way I can stop the constant error messages is to comment out the code or disable expression evaluation.
The error messages are annoying, but I can live with that. The real problem comes when I try to select keyframes in the timeline. I shift-drag across keys to select them, and they highlight at first, but then the highlighting immediately goes away. I am forced to use the Dope Sheet instead. Disabling expressions doesn't work, so I don't know if this problem is related to the displacement expression or not.
Displacement in Maya has a very bad reputation, and based on my experience, it's well-deserved. Another issue I have is that after conversion with history, multiple shape and transform nodes are visible in the Outliner, and it is not clear what's going on. The documentation for this feature is only two lines long, and does not explain anything. Apparently there is a pre-displacement shape and a post-displacement shape in the scene, sort of like how nCloth has an input and output mesh. But with displacement w/ history, users get no guidance on how all of this is supposed to work.

I created a very simple two poly object and then deleted my construction history and now I cannot seem to create a new polygon in the scene unless I turn off interactive creation.
If I choose create>sphere etc the little sign that says drag on grid appears but when I do nothing happens. I made a new scene and did the same thing and I don't have the same problem so Im not sure why in this particular scene.

I would like to know how to delete only certain parts of history but keeping its effects. For example, a cube has a smooth polygon, bevel, and blend shape history. How do I delete only the bevel history but at the same time keeping the bevel? Don't tell me to do the bevel first, delete history, then smooth and blend shape.

from what I understand, mesh cleanup fixes problems with bad geometry. but is there a function by which I can delete all edgeloops in a mesh that don't contribute to the shape? so Maya turns the mesh into as low rez as possible while retaining the shape....

I tried starting Maya 2012 from the terminal and it started fine.Then it gave me this when I opened Hypershade libpng warning: Ignoring attempt to set cHRM RGB triangle with zero area...As soon as I made a mental ray node , in Hypershade , Maya crashed.And before crashing it spit this out

2012 Hypershade works fine on windows at my friends place. Do I need to upgrade my QT to the latest build ?

I was working on setup up several camera animations in a file. I saved the file, and put the settings in for all 4 cameras to render. I started Batch Render running, it saved, began rendering the first frame and then Maya crashed. It was able to save a .mb version as it was closing. I have since been unable to get either file to open correctly.
If I try to directly open the files, they load 100%, the status bar immediately switches to "Writing <username>.20110503.<time>.ma" and the Crash Reporter appears before the viewport can even update and show the model.
If I try importing either file into a new document, it will load completely, and a dialog window pops up with: Could not save file"/var/folders/FL/FLo7J2o4H4OV9SDiREDU4U+++TI/-Tmp-/thompirson.20110503.1216.ma".
If you click OK, Maya crashes without the Crash Reporter opening.

An animator has been getting a crash when unloading a reference in some of our scenes. When I take the same scene and try the same unload-reference operation, it works fine for me without crashing.
I've attached the crash log from the animator's machine.
We're both on Maya 2013. I'm on Windows 8, he's on Windows 7, in case it's relevant. We're using the same set of custom plug-ins.
Note that we're not using nested references - this is a top-level reference that we're trying to unload.
I noticed this in the online readme file for Maya 2014: MAYA-19363 Unloading reference node may cause Maya crash.
If so, is there a workaround for Maya 2013 till we all move over to Maya 2014?

I am trying to learn layers and layer masks. I loaded an image, than control J to duplicate it. I then added a layer mask. Everything good so far. I then went to filters chose a blur. Then went to brushes with black as my foreground color, I just wanted to brush away the blur, and got an error message. "could not use the history brush because the history state does not have a corresponding layer."

Everytime I try to use my history brush, that error pops up and I have no clue why. If I try to just open a blank document and use the brush it does not give me this error and I can "use" the brush but you cant see anything on the project.
so when this error happens im trying to do a project and say I place a file(picture) into the project and this is the very first thing I do. I place it, then I size the image down some. I then make a new layer to use the brush for behind the picture and then this is when I get the error. I have no clue what is wrong

how many history states do you work with?

The tolerance feature of art history brush tool is explained in the reference as following:
"A high tolerance limits paint strokes to areas that differ considerably from the color in the source state or snapshot"
When I try to use this tool on a image's original state (no difference with the history state) with the 100% tolerance setting, some of the areas can be brushed.
So, I'm a little bit confused about the function of the "tolerance" slider.

I am doin a flipping of pages, you know when you lick your finger, grap the tip of the page and flip it over, lifting the page from its original flat position, in photoshop using the warp tool and image readywindow-animation.)
Now i have a few pages which look real enough to be seen as a flip.
I was wondering if there was a way to copy the warp tools deformation history of each position/stance to use on another layer, so all pages have more or less the same flipping technique applied to it?

I am using Photoshop CS3 for a photography class. I was playing around with the Filters and Image Adjustments of one of my photos and my teacher really liked it. I thought I remembered what I did, but when I tried to replicate the result with another photo it didn't seem the same.
I saved the first one as a photoshop image. Is there any way I could find a history of exactly what I did to that first photo so that I can do it again to other photos?

I have an image with a long history palette. I have been working with a burn tool. Accidentally I bumped the keyboard, and up comes the image with a new History State, just the Burn Tool with the History Brush. one line. I have none of the others. So, I dump that one in the garbage can. Slight name change but still the Burn Tool Histoy State. I notice the same statement on a second bar at the top, and the same bar having the minimize etc buttons. So, I click the lower bar, now I have an image with all the history states. I save the History state version and exit that screen. Now when I open the History tab, it opens behind the image! I reopen the saved History State image, same thing. All I can do is save the work, exit PS and start it again. The behavior is normal now, but of course minus the history states.

how to use Photoshop CS3 for Macs, which had a history palate on the right side of the screen. It was way easy to undo and redo steps and it was super convenient to have. I recently downloaded Photoshop CS4 for my Windows laptop, and it doesn't have a history palate on the screen! It's been driving me crazy because I used it all the time on CS3.Does anyone know if CS4 for Windows has a history palate, and if so, how to get it onto my main screen?

I see how Photoshop CS3 uses the History Log for actions, but can it be set up to not only record the step but what was done in that step, i.e., a History Log entry shows "curves" but doesn't show that a "darker" preset was used in that step.
