Aug 15, 2012What is the effect or process to, for example, ensure that normally washed out bright background on, say, a sunny beach, has same depth and contrast as the darker subject in the foreground? It is an unnatural state since your eye and most cameras will adjust to one extreme or the other.

Mar 24, 2014I'm importing RAW files straight from a CF card reader into my network storage drive via LR5.3. While reviewing as it imports initially each image looks great but a few seconds after it loads onto the screen it seems like LR applies a bit of extra brightness and lessens the contrast and I lose a load of detail that was there originally. I've not touched the import settings and no filters are being applied by myself on import.

Jun 5, 2012When I export an image from LR 4.1 for editing in PS CS6, I notice a distinct loss of contrast and possibly saturation. Overall, the image looks duller and flatter. My working space in both apps is ProPhoto RGB. I use a custom profile generated by a hardware calibrator.
The screenshot below is of the same image rendered in both programs.
And here are my PS color settings:
FWIW, the image generated by Lightroom is rendered identically by Preview.

I have recently started to loose some of my sight and the opening Panel is now difficult to read / work through.Is it possible to show the various editing options etc. as white on black rather than white on grey ?

Nov 30, 2011A close family member of mine is dying and has still many RAW files, which of course look quite lifeless as all RAWs do. She asked me to look for a simple Lightroom preset, which will convert her RAWs into Jpgs with more contrast saturation and sharpening. No fancy effects, just simple. She has Lightroom 3, but has no experience in making presets and neither do I. She is too ill to work on her computer herself, but can instruct me how to use a preset. She needs the preset to make her RAWs available to her partner and children.

May 5, 2012The contrast does not work evenly, or something. When I try to fix a hazy overcast horizon, the contrast just makes it worse --it appears to only work on the dark areas. Also, the shadows (I assume the renamed fill) appears to work unevenly as well. To accomplish what I want, before this version all I needed to do was boost the contrast and fill, and mayby tweek the brightness. Now I cannot get there from here.

Jan 22, 2013Many times my raw images are left with what can only be described as a "haze" over them. It is not a lens deal, it is something I'm not doing in the raw conversion process because .jpegs don't have it albeit .jpegs have their other weaknesses. Sometimes the black slider will remove the haze, but many times I'm left with too many areas that are dark. I think it is a contrast issue, but I really stuggle getting rid of the haze and keep a sharp contrasty image without adding more deep shadows to the image.

Sep 25, 2012Is exposure and contrast supposed to be altering saturation in version 2012? See the 4 screen shots below to see what I'm talking about (RAW NEF taken with a Nikon D4 and the other details are on the screen). Here I am adjusting effects contrast, but I don't think it matters which contrast.
v2012 contrast set one way (this slightly peach tone is accurate and desired):
v2012 contrast raised. There is no mistaking how much yellower it is. Now if I try to fix this with the color controls, something else usually gets thrown off.
This does not happen in v2010: Contrast raised (if anything, slightly opposite):Do not get me wrong --the 2012 controls are far superior at their named function --but they make the mistake of doing more than that function.
The fundamental problem here is that this makes it extremely difficult to edit a photo because changing one setting alters settings you may have already set. When order in which you tweak things becomes a factor, it exponentially increases the complexity (and edit time) because you are then dealing with a moving target. You keep having to go back and reset settings that should not be drifting, and did not drift in prior releases. This is a problem for me especially with photos containing a wide range between light and dark, especially where contrast is desired in both light and dark (as above). This is not the first contrast control problem I've posted (it appears to interfere with lens correction). Contrast seems to be at the center of all my release difficulty (that combined with lack of a linear brightness control). Contrast appears to be adjusting more than just contrast in v2012.

Nov 14, 2012I am having some issues with surface profiles on a dreffed alignment no updating dynamically.
Currently it requires me to set them to static, then back to dynamic and they update.
I am well aware of the issue of dreffed surface profiles staying static. I am using the work around of dreffing in the surface and sampling in the drawing using the dreffed alignment.

Sep 22, 2012I shoot with Canon EFS 55-250 and get the image as a JPG and CR2.
In the RAW file the EF-S 55-250 is recognized and selected the correct profile. In the JPG file, the lens is detected but the lens profile is set to mark = None, model = None. While I can make the change to Canon but still does not choose the lens EFS 55-250. It is missing. The list contains only 14 lenses. For RAW files, the selection includes a lot more Canon lenses.Why the EFS 55-250 exists only for RAW files and not for JPG? Are the profiles different?

Our assignment is to take photo paper from three different manufactures and download the ICC Profiles for each of our papers chosen. Let me tell you this is not as easy as it seems! Where I can find the profiles for Adobe PS for different types of photo paper. Each manufacture only gives the ICC profile for their products. No scanned profiles are available.

Dec 16, 2012After installation of LR 4.3, my custom camera profiles are no longer recognized. They are still in the correct folder along with the other camera profiles installed by LR but these custom profiles are not shown in the drop down list in the Camera Calibration panel.

Jan 4, 2012I have a set of precious digital images, they are actually fairly low-res scans of prints but they are irreplaceable and cannot be re-scanned.
The images exhibit the following issues and I don't know how to fix them:
1) In the LR import dialogue box they show up as "Preview unavailable for this file".
2) When I attempt to import to LR, I get the error "The following files were not imported because they could not be read".
3) If I open the file in Photoshop CS5, I get the warning "The embedded ICC profile cannot be used because the embedded ICC profile is invalid. Ignoring the profile" - if I ignore, PS can open the file but of course the colour profile is missing and the images look universally awful.
Curiously however the images DO provide a preview in Windows Explorer, and if I open them with the infinitely inferior Windows Live Photo Gallery, they open correctly and the colours are as they should be.
This all leads me to believe that there is something wrong with these files which Windows is OK with but Adobe is not. Since I do not have the paper prints, cannot rescan, and do not know the workflow process applied, I have absolutely no idea whether this happened at scanning time or subsequently.
HOWEVER surely, in this day and age, there must be a tool which allows me to package the information Windows can read and put it back into the file where it should be so that Adobe can read the same thing?
Lightroom :: Odd Effect With Camera Profiles?
Jan 30, 2013how a raw file looks in LR straight out of the camera using the Adobe Standard profile.
and this is how it looks with the profile set to Camera Standard. It seems as though the Adobe Standard profile is clipping the green channel in the magenta shades for some reason.
Clearly switching to another profile will solve it but my presets often set the profile so it's a bit of a nightmare.

Mar 12, 2012I shoot RAW with a Canon 5D Mark II. I am using Lightroom 3. All of the sudden I can't find my camera profile settings in the Develop Module under the Camera Calibration Panel. They used to be there and now they are gone. "2010" is selected under the Process bar, but only Matrix shows up as my available Camera Profiles. What did I do to make them disappear? I can't think of anything that I could have done. Haven't done much except edit photos and now my profiles are missing! How can I get my camera profiles back?

Nov 28, 2011I have this message when I start Lightroom 3 (roughly translated from french) "Missing camera profiles : some of your camera profiles are missing, that may alter the rendering of your raw files. Reinstall lightroom to restore them."
I did try to reinstall LR3 but without success. I'm with Lightroom from v1 an did upgrade to v2 then v3. I remember that I did remove a folder in the lightroom folder that I thought to be related to LR2 after upgrading to LR3. That's probably when the problem starts to occurs.
what are these missing files and how should proceed to restore them ? Where they installed by an older version ? I'm shooting with a D80 DSLR.

May 31, 2013Is there a limit to the number of profiles that can be added to Camera Profiles in LR4? Presently there are 9. I added one via the Library/AppSupport/Adobe/ACR/Camera profiles route where it appears. It does not appear when Camera Profiles are opened in LR4 however.
