Lightroom :: How To Save Changes Developed To Original Photo File
Nov 9, 2011
Once changes developed I want to save them onto the original file. I export the selected image (original photo + changes) with overwriting choice but the result file has only the original and not the changes
Whenever I tell LR to edit a photo in PS (CS6), I get back a TIFF file that is 10X larger than the orginal RAW file, and I ultimetly delete it to save space (after first converting it to a jpeg). Why doesn't PS do LR style non-destructrive editing, i.e., why not simply return a record of the edits made in a format compatible with LR?
In Lightroom, adjustments made to a photo replace the original version in my Library. When I drag the developed photo to external applications (Gmail in the browser, for example), Lightroom gives me the original photo, not the developed one, even though I can't see the original.
Is there a way to drag the developed photo from Lightroom, other than exporting and saving a new copy to my hard drive?
The external hard drive with wedding photos was corrupted. I still see the thumbnail in program(LR4) but it will not let me do anything with it. How/where do I use the memory of thumbnail to make a new file so that I can save my marriage?
After editing a photo in an external application, only the original raw file can be seen. The edited photo is hidden, even when searched for by name.
I have been reduced to the following workaround, which has the drawback of deleting all the original raw (.cr2) edits: Edit the photo; edit in external application; save and close. Back in lightroom, delete the raw file (from lightroom only); then close lightroom, reopen it and then at last I can see my edited file. Then I have to re-import the raw file and of course the edits have disappeared. But at least the final result can be seen.
The photos are supposed to be in a stack, but there appears to be a bug in this function because you can only ever see the raw file.
URL....I am using PSE 12 as a photo editor for Aperture 3.5.1 and the photo is duplicated (as a tiff) in Aperture and PSE editor opens with the image. When I close the file and say to save the file it brings up the save as window.
I tell PSE 12 to "on first save -- save over current file" it now brings up the "save as" window and won't save over the file (changes the file type from .tiff to .tif)
A digi image, cropped (crop tool), resized (resample), and saved (save as). Everything on 'default' (usual settings for this) or as I would like. Close and re-open, the image shows as the cropped image, but the thumbnail is the original.
I bought a new camera card today, having run out of settings to try. Took a pic, copied over, and it cropped and saved fine. So I went back to those taken yesterday, still full image thumbnail. Took new ones on new card, but full image thumbnails. Recropped the original photo that saved earlier today with cropped thumbnail - the full image is now in its thumbnail.
I found this error a bit strange, my colleague it trying to save a file and this error keeps on coming out (see attachments). When we try to save it, it only saves as a temp file. When we try to open up the temp file and try to save it, it still doesn't allow us to do. Also, when we cancel the save, the original file will be gone and he will lost all of his data. Below are the specs of the computer and version of the AutoCAD.
Computer: DELL Precision T5500
OS: Windows 7 Ult
AutoCAD Version: 2011
Also, we're using ProSteel Series 3 as well. We tried saving the file using ProSteel and just AutoCAD but it didn't do the trick. I've tried some options (listed below) that might get it to work but still no luck.
1. Restart the computer.
2. Repair / Reinstall AutoCAD.
3. Give permission to the folder (read from the forum).
While trying to import 1 photo I ended up importing my whole folder of raw photos. I want to keep my original as raw photos and then save the photos I edit in lightroom 4 as JPG and TIF's. Can I save my photos that were imported back to the original file as raw.
In Lightroom 5.2, where did my original RAW photo go? All my original photos are in the RAW file format.I sent the photo to Portrait Professional using "Edit a copy with LR adjustments," but didn't like the way it looked there and I discarded that.
I may have sent this photo to Photoshop CS6 in the past, I don't recall doing so, but it's possible. If I did, I didn't do much, if any, editing on it. Anyway, now in the LR filmstrip, I have a tif copy and a psd copy. The original RAW seems to be gone. It's not in the Recycle bin.
I open a PS file. I chose 'Save As' but uncheck 'Show Layers' in the dialog box. So now it's essentially a 'Save A Copy'. When the new file is saved the original file is written to (although nothing changed) and now has the same modification date as the 'Save A Copy' file. Super strange and causing issues. Because if one flattens or does anything to the original file, those changes are baked into the original file!

When making adjustments to the RAW file in Lightroom I know you can use the "" key to see the before image. However, when I export to photoshop it saves a second image back into Lightroom.
When looking at this new image is there a way to flip back and forth with the original RAW??
I have lightroom 4 and cs6. when i open a photo into photoshop, edit it, and save it, it does not update the origional photo in lightroom, how can i get it to update the origional photo?
I can not figure out how to maintain the original file size of my photos when I open them in Paintshop For example, the original file might be 3.78 MB but once it opens in Paintshop it is only 706 KB. Do I need to change settings somewhere?
How can I make available "Refine edge" when advised in (Elements 11 - Guided - Depth of field - Custom - Blur - that the "Command refine edge is not currently available" ??????
I have a preset that allows me to export my photo to a subfolder of the original folder. In my case it's simply called jpg export. This allows me to do all my edits when the shot is in it's original "Date taken" folder and all my edited shots from that folder show up in the jpg export folder when I run the preset. My issue is that the jpg shows up in BOTH the original folder and the jpg export folder. I know it's operator error but what's wrong with my settings? Under Export Location I have Export To: Same folder as original photo (this is the reason for my problem but I am not sure what to change it to) Put in Subfolder: is checked and the folder is called jpg export. Add to This Catalog: is also checked.
After I edit photos in an external editor, my photo is moved from its original location in the folder, to a different one. The photo stays within the same folder but is moved to a new location within it. This is really annoying as I have a couple thousand photos from a trip to Europe I have been going through, and after my external editor closes and I am returned to LR, I have to find the photo which has been moved to some random spot so I can put it back to where it originally was. I want to keep my photos organized by location, so it really sucks when my photos from Turkey end up with my photos from Hungary. How I can stop this???
Why won't LR5 save my original RAW imports from D7100. I can import them and process them but the originals are then lost. What am I doing wrong? With every other camera the original RAW image is saved in the library.
I am using Building Design Suite 2012 and trying to open a file that was emailed to me, when I try to open it I get an error that says "This DWG file was saved by an application that was not developed or licensed by Autodesk. What do you want to do?" When I choose continue opening DWG file it will open the file but it seems as if things are everywhere and outside the limits of the title sheet. I would think that possibly this was the intent of the drawing and they control the items outside of the title block with clipping or layer control, but here is where the weird part comes in, when I saved the file to my computer and try opening it from there (as opposed to directly from the email) when I click on it and it gives me the preview before opening the preview looks correct like the drawing is supposed to be. I have tried opening the file in Architecture 2012 and in TrueView 2012 and get the same results.
I have recently moved my photo files to a different harddrive from their original location. Some of these images had been included in "collections" prior to the move. Now, when I open a "collection", the photo files are no longer associated with the collection. How do I reassign a location to these files in these collections?
I have already reassigned the photo files in the catalog to their new harddrive location.
When I edit a photo in Photoshop from Lightroom 4 and save it back to Lightroom, the photo ends up somewhere else in the folder than it's original location. This is a hassle as my folders can have hundreds of photos. Is there a setting that will place the file back to where it came from?
import again my photos with all the settings which i had already brought to my work. It happened that my cat walking on the keyboard changed the name of the disk where lightroom used to point. Working with Lightroom 3, mac osx 10.5.8.
I loaded some folders with my pictures. In Lightroom I developed some of it, others I did not. Now I want to export only those pictures which I developed. I know, I can manually select at the bottom line all pictures showing a +/- sign and the export them. This is quite a lot of work with my 800 pictures. Is it possible to tell Lightroom that it just selects and exports the developed pictures?
Lightroom 4.1 will not export a deleloped image. I have the metadata to new file set to automatic and I get no error mesage. All my new exported files are the same as the original. I need a detailed discription of what boxes need to be checked or unchecked and where to find them. Something as simple as saving changes so that I might use them in another app should not be so difficult- version 2.7 worked fine so what's up with 4.1?
I edited a batch of photos, exported them and .xmp files were created in Lightroom Export folder. Later copied the .xmp files out of the Export and and pasted them into the main folder of the cr2 files.
When I opened LR again, there was a prompt and I messed with it. The result now is that the developed settings are the defaults instead of the unedited/tweaked photos.
I recently moved all my pictures developped with LR from my D DRive to an external one. But I guess I did it the wrong way (just searchimng for the files and moving them away). Then I imported again all my catalogs, but most of the pictures are "seen" AS DUPLICATE by LR and do not allow me any action on them. How can I fix it within deleting all the lrcat (libraries where all the changes done in the pictures are kept)?
Recently changed file names and now need to revert back to the original file name created via camera. Can this be done in LR 4 or is this info deleted?
