Feb 24, 2013I have vertical lines spaced at 1/2 inch in my printed pictures and would like to get rid of them. It happens with Photoshop CS-6 but not with Microsoft Photo Editor. I'm using a HP Officejet 6500A Plus and the color printing is fine.
Additional info: I am using Windows 7 on a Dell. Service pack 1, 32 bit system.
It happens with pdf files, jpeg, and psd. I am managing colors with the printer. I am using best quality printing. I have tried Color Smart and Adobe settings for RGB on the printer dialog page. I have tried telling the printer that I am using HP premium plus, plain paper and Other photo papers (My paper is actually Staples high gloss photo supreme).
What is remarkable to me is that I get high quality prints with the same printer, same paper, same settings using Microsoft Photo Editor - no vertical lines at all. However MPE is not very versatile, and the pdf I am currently trying to print will not load onto MPE.

Can I change the Elements 8 format to work in a vertical format to accommodate the larger size possible with a vertical image. It is difficult to manipulate the functions in Elements when the mouse is working in a horizontal mode and you are viewing a large image in a vertical format. If the format of the Elements 8 software can be changes to vertical, any protocol (directions) to accomplish this?

Feb 12, 2013While using the 3D extrude and bevel tool, specifically the isometric preset from the position drop down menu. I am noticing that when I expand the shape (in this case a perfect cube), the vertical paths are not exactly perfect, and are not truly vertical, but off slightly. Oct 8, 2012I recently purchased LR 4.2. I already have PSE 7 and have used it for several years. I have been trying to straighten verticals in photos of tall buildings, old courthouses, etc. where I had to point the camera up to capture the image I wanted (capture the highest spire and the base of the building and a little of the surrounding area). Photos taken like this end up "leaning" backwards quite a bit and, if shot from an angle especially, some of the verticals are seriously disorted (not just perspective). I usually line up on one vertical side when taking the picture; this results in the vertical on the other side being stretched outwards at the bottom compared to
PSE has a filter that allows you to correct camera distortion including vertical perspective that works pretty well. PSE also has some distortion functions that allow you to stretch, skew, or free distort an image. I use skew to take the side of the picture where the bottom is wider than the top (sloping from top to bottom, left to right sort of like a slash "/" character). I select the bottom, left corner and pull it in until the vertical looks about right.
So now that I have LR, I wanted to see how its distortion correction worked compared to PSE.
I took one of these photos like this and adjusted it in LR. The first thing I noticed is that LR does not have any skew capabilities. It can't correct for more than relatively simple vertical and horizontal distortion. That's disappointing because I don't really want to export my file as TIFF, import it into PSE, then convert it to 8 bits (my version of PSE won't do camera distortion or stretch/skew adjustment on 16-bit images), adjust it, then export it back out to my TIFF file, then import that file back into LR.
The other oddity I've noticed is that the vertical perspective correction in LR tends to stretch things vertically when large amounts of vertical perspective correction are applied. What happens then is that an old style courthouse which has a a smaller dome on the top, the smaller dome gets stretched vertically and becomes more "skinny" - taller and thinner. So the vertical distortion correction, in large amounts, just introduces more vertical distortion by vertically stretching the image. PSE, on the othe rhand, corrects the vertical distortion but does not change the proportions of the subject significantly - no vertical stretching.
1) why does LR offer perspective and horizonal corrections but not distortion controls like skew?
2) why does LR vertically stretch my subject when I use a lot of vertical distortion adjustment when PSE does not, and what (if anything) can I do about it?

May 3, 2013If I import the files from the camera disk directly into LR4, I sometimes get vertical streaks on the preview images.
Yet if I go to develop mode, the picture loses its streaks by merely entering and exiting crop mode without changing the image size.
If I import them from the pictures folder after they were imported through another program, I haven't had any issues. Go figure!

Apr 15, 2013I choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.

Lightroom :: Pictures Don't Show Up?
May 28, 2012I just installed the trial of LR3 and I'm already having problems. When I try to "import" photos, my pictures don't show up. All that shows up in the preview thumbnails are grey boxes where my pictures should be. LR acts like it is loading my pictures, but when the pictures should be fully loaded, there are only grey boxes. If I hit "uncheck all" they will begin to re-load, but still the pictures will not show up. If I go to "Develop", the levels and such of the photo will show up and I can alter them, but it doesn't do anything because the photo I am editing is just a grey space! I tried altering the preferences for the file types to see if that may be it, but the pictures still did not show. I also tried using different folders of photos, but they all did this weird grey space thing.

Lightroom aside, the way I have my photos organized are like this. Follow along with the photo!
In the My Pictures folder I have a few folders for each year. You open up a year, like 2011 and it opens up each photo session I did. For example if I went to the beach on March 25 I would make a folder titled March 25, Beach Shoot. Inside that folder would be all of my pictures from the beach.
Well in lightroom I imported everything and it all shows up as various folders. There are no years, all the years are crammed into one section in the module. The folders section under my C drive.
Its really hard to find certain photos from shoots. I dont care to look through shoots from 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 when I went on a shoot yesterday, in 2012.
What is the best way to organize all my pictures from various years? How do others do this? I bought a Lynda membership for their video lessons and took a 5 hour course on how to organize Lightroom and the guy in the video was dealing with like 150 shots. I’m dealing with almost 20,000.

This can be done with an individual picture : see screen cap below.
But it cannot be done with a group.
I tried several usual modifier key (alt, shift...) but all I can do with a group is navigating through the map.
Plus when the thumbnails of the groupe are displayed, one cannot cycle back from the first picture to the last one. See screen cap below :
Lightroom :: Raw Pictures Are Getting Darker After Loading?
May 27, 2012I use Lightroom 4.0 64bit (Camera Raw 7.0) on a Windows 7 Home Premium.
My Problem is that the pictures are darker after loading in the library than while loading. I prefer the brighter version than the darker, so what is the problem?
