Lightroom :: How To Locate Original Image Number In LR4
Sep 30, 2013I've renamed some of the images on import into my LR4 catalog and I'd like to know what the orignal file names were out of camera. Is it possible to do this?

View 12 RepliesI made a dumb mistake when I first started using LR and I thought files once downloaded into the catalogue were saved and accessible. I removed the files from bridge and now I cannot open them in my catalog. My photos will show up in LR, but the message says "cannot open because cannot locate original file"
I can SEE them, I just can't do anything with them. Is there anyway to recover these files?
I have recently moved my photo files to a different harddrive from their original location. Some of these images had been included in "collections" prior to the move. Now, when I open a "collection", the photo files are no longer associated with the collection. How do I reassign a location to these files in these collections?
I have already reassigned the photo files in the catalog to their new harddrive location.
this is in regards to a Lightroom 3.5 exported JPG. This was a year ago when I had been told it was best to export files with simple renumbering of them from 1 to x... instead of retaining the original RAW 4-digit file name.
I've currently lost the original files, and need to do a search for them via these 4 digits to see if I have them tucked away in any of my drives. I downloaded a metadata explorer, and it's telling me all the lightroom editing information, and everything else, but somehow does not have the simplest of information — that 4 digit original file name.
Am I grasping at straws or is there likely to be any way to find this information out? I don't work with metadata, so there wouldn't have been any customizations to how Lightroom configures this...
I cannot seem to exprt my images and retain the orginal jpeg file number once I have watermarked them... I choose the "save with original file number" option in the drop down list but it still exports them with new numbers. How do I keep my original numbers?
View 30 Replies View Relatedi have lots of images on cd. i have tried to import the images from CD. the images are in the catalog. But light room did not save the full image. maybe only a thumb nail and a pointer to the address location of the file. it can not find the file since it knows that it was imported from a cd.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnd it is totally random. I use a differnt library for every shoot I do (weddings mainly) and sometimes when I edit the image in PS, it comes back fine. But the other times right to the top of the stack in front of the first picture of the day, miles away from the orginal! No ryme or reason. And yes in preferences in external editing I have clicked 'stack with orginal'. this is sucking up alot of my time haiving to reorganizing every picture I take into PS from LR.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore I got LR4 I developed a series of images (thousands) with Bridge and Photoshop. I've now decided to build a LR catalog of the series.
As I import I want to use the Image # option to rename files, making the whole mess of photos "cleaner" with unique names, etc. Of course I want ot import Raw's and the Tif/Psd images I made along the way. I notice the Image numbering process does NOT recognize the relationship between the raw and edited files. So files (img_123.nef and img_123.tif) become (img-01.nef and img-02.tif). I would prefer the tif file be named img-01.tif so the link between the two remains obvious.
Key to creation date & time? I realize this is a really specific issue, but if the point is to make the series tidier and more coherent it would be a useful feature.
When soft proofing, I split the image horizontally and then create proof image when asked after making first alteration. However, in both LR4.4 and 5Beta, both the original and virtual (i.e., proofing image) change.
Have l Brightness value of 55 in original. Proofed image is duller. Increase brightness in proof by 10 to match original. (Figures are just for explanation) Now when I compare images again, original image brightness has increased by 10 also. This can be seen, of course, on the Develop panel.
I would like the file number text to show up on some of my exported JPG images. I need this for the purpose of looking up the original file. All I see in the watermark section is the ability to hard code text only. Is there a way to do this inside LR? Perhaps a plugin?
Alternately, is there 3rd party utility to do this to a whole folder of exported JPGs? That would be messy, but I really need to ID certain event photos ON the photo.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery version of Photoshop on MAC platform before CS6 gave me a path to my image in the finder when I right-clicked or Control Clicked on the title bar. Now I get information I can easily get elsewhere and there's no intuitive way to get my path information.
This is inconsistent with other CS applications as well. after saving an image it works, then if I leave the image open, click on another image, then click back to the one I just saved, the option list is different when I right click.
I did a family session and had the family decide on 54 images they liked that I would edit and I placed them into a collection and editted them well I created a folder in my pictures portion of my computer to place the editted version and now lightroom is stating that the image cannot be found and I tried relocating them to direct them to where they live in the computer file but it states that there are other pictures similar would you like to view this and I hit open but nothing happens so I am extremly worried I have lost these images I dont have backup that exist..

1- if i update will my images/catalog.library disappear?
2- ALL my images have disappeared and i dont know how to locate them - one of my catalogues in the library were missing so i right clicked and pressed find missing file then i located it on my external hardrive and i think i pressed ok now the entire folder does not even show in my library!
i am doing something wrong when i import pics in , and i cant find missing files, i remember a while ago i moved all images off my laptop to and external hardrive but even whe i plug it in i cant find them and all files are dated so its hard to know whats what.. I am trying to apply for a photography job and i cant locate them to put a pdf folio together.
Is there any way that I can quickly locate which files have been exported from LR? I often have to work 2 or 3 sets, and will need to wait for approval from different art directors, product managers, etc. sometimes for days, and I often find myself wondering which was the photo I sent to them- the differences are often very minimal, and by the time they get back to me, I've forgotten them anyway. I know I can flag them, rate them, etc. and obviously I can look at the file in photoshop ( where it has been exported to) but I really would like to know if there is a quick telltale that I can spot in LR.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI imported yesterday’s shoot into LR4 the same way as ever, nothing new, and they seemed to import very quickly. Didn’t think anything of it at the time, but now I’ve got the dreaded question mark against the shots. I try right click, locate missing files and the dialogue box comes up but with no files or folders selected so it seems I can’t go further down this route. LR says the files are in “Volumes” on my hard drive, but that folder simply doesn’t seem to be there when I use finder.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just noticed that i have some images, jpg and tiff, which are shown to have SIDECAR FILES in the EXFIPTC metadata display.
These files have many dates, some more than 20 years old and shot on film and scanned on nikon slide scanner. Actually, the images in question were NEVER raw files..
i do not remember how i may have done this. i have used LR from the beginning and so i am certain that at some time i checked the wrong box.
i cannot seem to find those which have sidecar files by searching, even using ANY FILTER plug-in (although i am not certain i have used it correctly).
Can i find these sidecar files? perhaps there will be some clue as to why they are there.
i have added a sentence noting that these files were never raw files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDuring importing specifically "Moving" a selection of pictures from one location on internal drive to another location on internal drive, after I tagged the pictures with keywords, Lightroom crashed.
Now when I go to Previous import the pictures are not found. Neither are the files in the location I move them to. When I do a search for the images with the keywords I tagged those images with, I can't locate them. I don't see them in the Trash either.
Now, I have no idea where those images are. This is very bad. I guess I'll have to use Finder to move the images first then "Add" them to Lightroom afterwards. It's a good thing I was paying attention when I did the import.
