Lightroom :: Create 5 Cropping Overlay Guide From Image?
Aug 30, 2013
I must have dreamed this but I thought I saw that LR 5 had the ability to create a cropping overlay from an image. My goal is to create a quicker way to place a date on 5x7 and wallets so that it works for both prints. I want WHCC's wallet guide as an overlay.

Is it possible to use the crop tool but have an image fill overlay instead of a grid overlay? I do a lot of photo editing where the image has to be in certain boundaries but also has a complicated background, and I'd like to reduce a step.

I am doing a sequence of photos and it would be extremely useful if there was a grid overlay for the photo I am working on when I am not in crop mode, the same as the thirds grid overlay you see when using the crop tool.

Why my Crop Guide Overlay dropdown is missing? Adobe Photoshop CS4.
There used to be a day when you could click on help and it would bring up help topics on the product you purchased. Now, I get a website with CS5, CS6 and whatever else.

I need to create an action to resize several hundred horizontal images. Each image must be sized to a specific width and then cropped to a specific height. When I crop the image, I need to adjust the cropping box to accommodate the image content. Then I will save the image as a new file.
How do I a create a pause in the action so I can position the crop manually before I save the image?

I have been using LR for quite a while, but all of a sudden when I crop a photo, the image slides to the left or right and out of view.
In the past when I move the crop frame the photo would not move, that way I can see exactly how much of the photo I am cropping.
I have tried doing searches regarding a setting, but all I get are answers about locking the crop ratio and that is not what I need.
I need to keep the entire image in view when I slide the crop window.

I am a Canon shooter but received some raw Nikon files from a fellow photographer. We've done this before and I've had no problems with his files - well, we have done this a number of times but before I used LR 4 (i.e., in LR 3 and before). With this batch, when I start cropping, the image gets stretched vertically, but is fine when I hit enter to commit the crop.

I tend to always have a few pictures in rotation that I end up cropping multiple times when I am printing. Pictures where today I need to print a 4x6 and tomorrow it's a 5x7 of the same picture, etc. I am trying to figure out a way to save the file with that cropping. Ideally there would be a way that if I also modified anything else in the image that would also show up in the other versions. I know there is Create Virtual Copy, and that could work if I could then figure out how to change the file name so it would show that it was cropped for 5x7 or whatever.

I want to crop an image visually, by sliding the cropping bars by eye. Not by typing in a specific size. How do I do that? My cropping tool seems to be set on some dimension. I've "reset" it, tried recropping from the "original" but still when I move the top horizontal bar in the cropping tool, it automatically is moving the vertical sides. As if a preset size/dimension/ratio is applied to it. Although I didn't apply any such dimension.

In LR 4, I have created a virtual copy for the purpose of cropping, but when I crop it in Develop, the original image is getting cropped as well. Have I misunderstood something?

Can one create diagonal guide lines in GIMP?... I couldn't find anything when searching the tutorials section.
I just made my diagonal guides with a top layer and drawing with a small white brush... but it would still be nice to know if diagonal guides can be created.

If there is a way to create a horizontal guide line that will stop at the next vertical guide line instead of going all the way across your template? If not, how would I submit that as something new to add to the next program coming out....it would be great to have that as an option when setting up your guide lines.

I'm currently using auto cad 2000 because it's required in our class. When I make circles or move or objects there are no image guide. like when I make circles only the lines are there I still have to calculate what the diameter is rather than by simply looking how big the circle is. or when I'm connecting objects, It's very hard to connect complex objects by moving them because there is no guide to where the image is suppose to be when the mouse is at a particular place.

I have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.
I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).
Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.
So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).
I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).
And then my problem:
I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).
Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.
Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.

How to create my own cropping guides in GIMP, is this possible? The guide shows a central cross, or a thirds, or a golden thirds, over the selection that is being cropped.

Any experience with the Tin Surface CreatebyCropping Function.
The specific stumbling block I have come across is the best way to deal with the database that is required to export the new cropped surface to as it has to be different from the current drawing. I don't actually need the cropped surface to be saved but need to be able to adjust elevations and extract the tin from it. The tin would then be used to generate a pregrade surface in the base drawing. Previously I had done this with non-destructive boundaries but I find the cropped surface to be more accurate.

I am looking to create a grid to "Overlay" a topographical map in model space. Essentially this will be built on a seperate layer titled grid that can be turned on or off to essentially "toggle" it. What is the most efficient way to create a grid in autocad? As well as assure the proper scale. Say I want it to have 10 ft. by 10 ft. cells on a topographical map that has a scale of 1" = 50'.

I'm trying to take an image and overlay it onto another image, which I can do just fine. The problem I am running into is that the image exceeds the borders and becomes nothing more than a dotted shape losing all its color. What I want to know is how do you expand the border so that the image once again becomes visible?

If I may, I'd like to know the answer to this. For my own edification....
I have an image that is 16 x 24 inches. It has a certain file size.
When I crop the image with the cropping tool, and set the tool to 16 inches wide by 24 inches high, the image file size increases significantly.
Is this what is called "resampling?" The setting in the image size is set for Bicubic (for smooth gradients).
As an example, I saved the file (from a RAW conversion to jpg), and it was 14 Mb. When I cropped it, it jumped to 19 Mb.

This example is in 1024 x 768
I have this picture and i want to crop out certain area of the image. is it me or is it the crop tool that cannot do a free resizing, like the FREE TRANSFORM TOOL (CTRL+T).. From what i see, i can only edit the croping picture by clicking the Perspective check box. Is it normal ? Another problem is that the picture instead of resizing to the size of the croped measurements, it takes the original 1024 x 768 length and width and fills up that size.. in other words the cropped imaged maxmise itself to fit the whole original size pic.. i was quite sure this didnt happen when i was using Photoshop 7..

My Art teacher has just got Photoshop Elements 4.0, and needs to know how to 'overlay' one image on top of the other, for example, placing a leaf over a picture of a face and fading it slightly so that you can still see the face.
