I know a file with the same attributes of an existing image cannot have the same filename and that duplicates will add '-2. But the images I'm importing are not already in a Lightroom catalog. I don't understand why Lightroom is adding '-2' to the end of each filename.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to move to a new computer (goign from an OS X system to a Windows 7 system), and I've discovered that one of the characters I've been using in some of my filenames is illegal in Windows. I need to change that character so these filenames are acceptable to Windows without losing the associations in LR (virtual copies, metadata, etc.). However, I can't seem to find a way o do this in LR. There are too many of them to do this one at a time, either renaming them individually in LR or using another utility to bulk rename and then reassociating the files individually in LR. Is there a solution to this I am missing?
View 19 Replies View Relatedfor rendering purposes (we work on stop-motion-stop films) in our company's processing workflow, I export many different image sequences with 1000 or more JPG images from many different RAW NEF folders. All these folders with 1000s of RAW NEF files get developed and then exported as JPGs
- into folders on various volumes on servers. so other people then further render from these folders in AE or other hosts.
sometimes however, after a week or month, for whatever reason we need to re-develop original RAW NEFs of a folder of a specific set in it's original lightroom folder (from where those JPGs had been exported from).
By knowing a filename like for example _DSC7561.jpg out of a JPG export folder I then would like to quickly find and locate the original folder within the LR4 library, containing e.g. the file _DSC7561.nef from where that JPG was exported from (for specific reasons I can not change all those export JPG folders are on different volumes than the original folders with RAW file sequences).
So, when I sit in front of LR4 on the RAW development stations is there a way to find
- folders in the lightroom catalogue in volumes or over volumes (by their known folder name or part of their foldername)?
- filenames or part of filenames in folders over volumes, or within a volume?
it is so time consuming to scroll all folders to find an original folder with RAWfiles from where we developed and exported JPGs. we keep those RAW folders not only for the original RAW files of course, but also because of the XMP sidecar files with all the development changes. sometimes we even store snapshots or several stages of XMP processing to them.
Of course LR4 offers search for a filename within a folder via CMD+F, but we don't need that actually.
we need CMD+F for the library search for foldernames or folders over a volume at least, but better would be various volumes.
are there any LR4 plugins or tools that solve this? Or did I oversee something?
I can of course search for any folder containing a file _DSC7561.nef outside of LR4 in finder with tools like "Tembo" or "Find any File" easily, but that don't jumps me to the folder in the LR4 library, with all my developement changes.
PS: we don't use keywords, it is not possible with TB of images each week but we use specific sequencing names for image file sequences and structured folders of course.
I'd like to give various virtual copies different filename (or add an appendage to the name) to describe their use. But changing one virtual copy changes all from the same original image. Is there any way to rename them individually?

We are using Autocad 2012 and 2012LT in our office and with this version started using the built in feature of DWG to PDF. One issue we have come across is, if we create a pdf file and then need to recreate the same file we can not overwrite the existing file. We are forced to either give the new file a different name or go back and delete the existing file prior to creating the new one.

I use CS and can do this in Picture Package a few at a time but it is a little cumbersome. I am a school photographer.
I’m working with an external team of artists and they supply meshes to me in .3ds file format. They just upgraded to 3ds Max 2013, and now the materials defined in the .3ds files don’t seem to have textures associated with them. I can see using a binary diff on the file versions that the material names have also been contracted to just their first letters. I have found the material names elsewhere in the file, but not the texture filenames.
Has something changed in the .3ds exporter with Max 2013? The files are coming out significantly smaller, which is good, but without the textures in materials I can’t use them.
I use smart fix to process multiple files in organizer. Smart fix creates a new version of each file with a filename with "_edited-1" added to the original filename. I then flatten version set, and tell Photoshop to delete the original files. Now I have the edited files, all with the "_edited-1" filename format. I want to retain the original picture filename. Outside of Photoshop, I can bulk rename the photos to get rid of the "_edited-1" additions to the filenames, but then Photoshop needs to rebuild the database. There must be a simpler way to edit all the photos and retain the original photo filenames. I'm using Photoshop Elements 11 and am inexperienced with the package.

Using AutoCAD 2011's batch plot, or TrueView 2014's batch plot the default PDF filename when plotting to PDF appears to be:
<file_name>-<layout_name>.pdf
Which is okay. But I want to append to that the revision of the layout (C1, C2, etc.) which I currently store in a title block as a block attribute value. Any method for somehow pulling this out and including it after the filename such that I could end up with:
<file_name>-<layout_name>-<revision>.pdf
We're currently trying to transition to using the Sheet Set Manager, is the above any easier to achieve using that?
Is it possible the bitmaps get imported with their filenames? i.e. when we select the bitmap, the object manager should say like image - tree.jpg.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing either Universal Document Converter for JPEG, or Adobe Acrobat 9 for PDF, AutoCAD 2011 (suddenly and without warning) started truncating 15~20 character filenames to 3 character filenames when printing.
It used to plot to the complete filename, swapping the JPG or PDF extension for the DWG extension, until last Friday.
Question about saving images through an action. According to the 7.0 help manual, I should leave the filename as the default if I want my files to be saved with consecutive names (i.e. image01,image02, etc).
I created an action to do a number of things before saving my file.. everything works great except that photoshop keeps saving my file as 'untitled-1.jpg,' which overwrites the previous file of the same name. What can i do? Feel free to IM as well.
If I want to drag over several pictures from the grid to an album or choose for them printing, as soon as I highlight more than one the file name stops showing in the information box. Therefore I can't figure out which pictures to highlight (after I have spent a long time analyzing each one individually). Some of my shots are so similar that I need the file name to choose the correct ones for the batch I want. Is there a way to see the filenames in the grid?

Specifying downloads to a dated folder name exacerbates the problem when combining the pics into a common folder at a later time. We have been manually renaming but this is becoming burdensome. Was wondering if PSP X4 has a front end downloading program that could handle this.

Inventor adds extra spaces to the parts list filenames when they wrap.
The space is added just before the break.
We access the parts list in several VBA programs. Mainly to get the line Item number.
With the Filename corrupted with random space characters I cannot tie the document to the item number in code.
Is there a way to get the true fully pathed document name from a parts list Line item instead of the flakey filename that is displayed?
The usual import menue has the options for importing on the right hand side. My system is now showing an import dialouge box and the import dialouge on the right is greyed out. How do I get back to the standard import screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis issue occured shortly after update to 4.2, but not directly after. I am using windows 8.
The issue that occurs is after importing images they are adjusted automatically to develop module cross process 1. After dealing with this annoyance for a bit of time I realized that I can not even "RESET ALL" the images to delete the adjustment. In delving into other images that have been in my database for quite some time, I have tried to "RESET ALL", which resets images to CROSS PROCESS 1. I have never set import to automatically adjust.
I just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.
I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.
System is an Acer Aspire 7811 64 bits w/ Intel i7, Win 7 Home Premium, 8 GB internal mem and no external drives.
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
I use Auto Import to import my RAW files. Each time LR imports my files the Previous Import count number increases. Is there a way to reset this count so it shows a true reflection of the photos from my previous import session?
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you manually import files the Previous Import count number resets itself automatically. I've Googled this problem & this question has been asked before - all users were utilising Auto Import.
I'm trying to import photos into LR3.3, and the thumbnails are grayed out, as is the import button. The photos come from two other cameras -- one Canon Elf, the other I'm not sure. I received them through dropbox, and they open fine with Bridge and Photoshop CS4.

My question now is do I import as a DNG? What are the benefits of this?
If I do import like this, am I duplicating all my images on my HDD?
Had version 4.2 working just fine until last week when it stopped importing. Program does not even show external drive in available folders. Bought LR5 and updated to version 5.2. Same problem. I can view from Windows Explorer or Irfan View. If I try to import from other source, I can see the folders but when I open the folder I get an error message that says no items match your search. I need to get this figured out as I'm a sports photographer and need to get 6 games processed and posted.

i work almost 95% with canon raw files.
i don't convert to DNG.
LR4, allthough what i'm reffering to appears with all versions.
when i open the import dialog box, and going to the location of the CR2 files i would like to import, i see on screen a different version/look of the image than after import.
meaning, i see what i interpet as a "Jpeg" version of the CR2 file when i'm in the import dialog box.but when everything is imported into my catalog, when i look on the same file it looks much different. (both in library and develop)
i'm not applying any develop settings upon import.only my metadata and maybe a few keywords.
Is there a way that when first importing from the camera raw files, to see the image in the Import mode, rather than "No preview available"? This is when first starting the Import process. All.jpg files do have the image displayed so you can see what it is. Lightroom 3.5 Win 7 64-bit.

However, I can see all the images in the import dialog window. I also tried other memory cards with the same problem and they can't all have crashed simultaneously.
