Lightroom :: Very Dark And Dull Prints?

May 27, 2013

I have used LR 2 in the past with Windows 98 and an HP Photosmart Pro B9180 shooting with Pentax k10d using DNG files and printing with few or no problems with minimal developing. I am now trying LR 4 with the same printer and camera but with Windows 7 and with little or no changes in developing the prints are very dull and almost black. I have the latest driver updates and am have the printer letting the application manage the color with the correct setting in profile.

Lightroom :: Prints Coming Out Too Dark - Calibration Workflow?

Mar 20, 2014

Yes, my monitor is an LCD and it is bright. It is not a proofing monitor. It was calibrated. I've been printing B&W from LR on an Epson printer (r1900 & r2400). I know proper color management. Turn off Epson Color Management, let LR manage color with the correct icc profile

Obviously I can do trial and error, brightening the photo until it looks correct. My thought is, is there a way I could print on one page Thumbnails or like in the film days strips with different "exposures." Then with one print I could pick how much of an adjustment is needed?

Photoshop :: CS3 -- Prints Too Dark

Nov 30, 2008

In CS3, I'm having trouble getting my prints to match the appearance on monitor -- my prints are uniformly 1-2 stops too dark, color otherwise is very good. I have calibrated my Dell monitor with Colorvision's Spyder2 colorimeter. Prints are also a hair too dark in CS2, but not as dark.

Photos and Photoshop are in RGB color space. Printer is Epson R2400 with updated drivers I just downloaded and updated into Photoshop. I also downloaded updated ICC color profiles for the Epson Premium Glossy Paper I use.

Printer settings in Photoshop are: Photoshop manages color; Adobe RGB printer profile; perceptual rendering intent; black point compensation "on"; ICM color management; color management set to "Off". I'm using North American Prepress 2 color setting. These are the exact settings Scott Kelby recommends in his "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers" for getting calibrated prints.

Photoshop :: PS CS4 And Dark Prints

Apr 18, 2009

Old: CS3 printing to Epson 3800.  New: CS4 prints dark on Epson 3800. Regardless of picture sent over.  Same settings as with CS3 and every variation I can think of.  Epson 3800 hasn't changed.  Only Adobe Photoshop version has. I can print the same pics from (example) Windows picture manager, and what I see on the CALIBRATED screen I see on the Epson, so this isn't an Epson issue.

Photoshop :: CS3 Prints To Dark And Then To Green?

Apr 5, 2013

In CS3 I am having trouble getting my prints to match the image on my MacBookPro Monitor.

AT first the prints were coming out to green, so I calibrated my disply/monitor on my MacBook Pro.  It seem to make a slight improvement and I used the Apple calibrating profile.  Tricky to use.

I made some  prints with my Epson 3800 Printer using PS to manage the printing. Still to green.  Then I went over the color settings in my Preferances and followed the guide lines i read in my CS3 for Dummies book. I made some prints which came out 2-3 stops darker, but no green. So then I tried making the prints through the Epson profiles and not photoshop and they came out lighter but way to green.

The printer settngs in Photoshop are: Photoshop manages color; Adobe RGB printer profile, perceptual rendering intent, black point compensation on, color management set to off.

I'm using North American Prepress 2 color setting.  I did not have this problem in the past, but I also did not know how often one shold czalibrate their monitor.  Should I try reinstalling Photoshop or do I need to download any update drivers or profiles?

Photoshop :: Prints Have Become Dark With Brown Hue

Sep 21, 2012

I had a hard drive crash which required a new hard drive, unfortunately unconfigured. I am up and running but my printer, Epson SPR1900, produces very dark images with a heavy brown overcast. I have a Dell Desktop running Windows 7, Dell Monitor, ,NVIDIA GeForce 220 graphics card with a new driver update.

I have calibrated the monitor with my Spyder2 and use the following settings:

Under EDIT >Color Settings>Custom. Working space>ProPhoto. VIEW>Proof Setup>Device to Simulate> SPR1900 Premium Glossy. PRINT (PS-CS6) Color Management ICM>off, No Color Management.. In Color Management, Color Handling>PS Manages Color. Printer Profile>SPR1900 Premium Glossy.

Rendering is Relative Colorimetric. Prints still very dark with a marked brown overtone. Prints were beautiful before the hard drive crash.

Photoshop :: Printing Out Of CS5 - Dark / Muddy Prints?

Jan 9, 2013

I am having trouble getting good prints when printing out of CS5.  I have taken all of the calibration and profiling steps and my prints are coming out very dark and muddy.

I am printing on an Epson Pro 7800 and I am a Mac user (OS X 10.6.8).  I contacted Epson and they suggested printing out of Preview and the images looked far better which, they suggested, points to something in Photoshop that is causing the problem.

Photoshop :: CS3 / Epson 1280 / Dark Prints

May 26, 2008

I've been printing for years with PS 5.5, 7, CS, & now CS3.

I've always allowed Photoshop to manage colors,; No color Management selected in Printer Driver, correct paper choice as provided by media Co., correct profile as provided by media Co., in Print Dialog.

In the past, what I saw on screen was extremely close to the printed results.

I just started printing again, with CS3, and though the prints look fine on the monitor, when viewed in CS3's Print Dialog with "Match Print Colors" / Soft Proof selected, the image not only turns much darker, but there is absolutely no hint of highlight "pop" left----Even the effect of sharpening disappears. The white borders even turn to a dull, bluish gray & the entire image assumes a dark, flat, dull appearance, and that's the way it prints!

This occurs with image files that have printed fine previously, and have not been altered in any way.

I've tried reinstalling the Printer driver,

Lightroom :: 5 Photos Are Dull And Flat?

Jul 27, 2013

I am editing photos for a friend on LR5. The catalog is on an external drive. She starts the edit on her computer (a Mac) and then I take the drive to finish (I also use a Mac). The problem is, when I open the catalog, her edited photos come up beautiful at first, but when I click on them, they come up dull and flat. This is not all of her photos, either, just some of them. I have tried to figure out what is going on, why they are like this. I want to be able to sync settings to make this editing easier, but when I sync, all of the photos end up flat and dull. They are Canon raw files and we are using the VSCO film presets.

Lightroom :: 4 - Second Monitor Images Gray Dim Dull

Aug 26, 2012

Upgraded to LR4. When selecting the 2nd monitor (Gateway) all photo images show as dim dull dark greyed out.  If I move LR window from primary (NEC) to the Gateway all menu items and selections normal.  All images are dull dim grey including the histogram.  Selecting 2nd monitor feature places Loupe on primary display (NEC) works just fine.

If I reset Windows 7 and designate primary monitor as Gateway the problem remains unchanged.

If I place main LR window on Gateway and then select preview of 2nd monitor (CTRL-click) the pop up window renders correctly on the Gateway.

Turned off all icc profiles for monitors no improvement.

Windows 7PRo 64-bit 8GB RAM quad processor all drivers up to date.  NVidia card up to date.

Other non LR windows programs and images opened on the second monitor look just fine. The Gateway will render correctly the 2nd monitor pop up preview image; so the monitor will properly display.

If I have some time I will go back to LR3 and double check that everything works fine.

Lightroom :: Raw Files Become Dull And Lifeless When Imported

Mar 13, 2014

I have an issue with the fact that i spend time setting up my camera for the rite white balance and exposure to get a quality image that might use some spot removal in post but thats about it, to have the images become dark, dull and lifeless in lightroom when imported.  when i try to bring the color back its just not the same.  why is this happening and how can i fix it.  i am glad that i saved the files elsewhere first, the raw images look fine in other software its just lightroom that is doing this. here is an screen shot of the same image side by side the one on the left is raw exactly how it looks in camera with canon software and the one on the right is in lightroom. at first it looked the same but 2 seconds later it was dull and imo ugly.

Lightroom :: Costco And Soft Proofing Show Dull Washed Out Image?

Nov 9, 2013

I am trying to utilize my nearest costco to print some images from lightroom 5. I am getting back dull washed out prints.

Facts:

I shoot in RAW in manual mode

I am using sRGB when I do my post processing

I export to jpg for printing

I used the costco LR5 plugin from Alloyphoto to upload to Costco

I have installed the printer profiles from drycreek for the specific location/printer and have chosen the correct profile as I export

I made sure that I chose to have Costco NOT autocorrect the color

Even when I use LR5's soft proofing, I get the same result on my monitor

I checked the print I got back and it says that they did NOT autocorrect (taken with a grain of salt)

The machine they are using is a Noritsu QSS-A, so I know my profile is correct

I have attached a screen shot of what I am seeing.

Why am I seeing this on my soft proofing as well as my prints?

Lightroom :: Why 4x6 And 5x7 Prints Being Clipped

Mar 1, 2013

My prints are getting clipped no matter what I try to do.  I am losing approximately 1/8" from all sides of the finished print.  From what I can tell, the picture is actually printing larger than the specified size.

This is my process:

In the Develop module I am cropping to the desired aspect ratio using LR presets, then going straight to the print module.  My printer is an HP Photosmart C4780. In the Print module I set my margins to 0 and cell size to 4in x 6in.  The picture on the screeen looks exactly how I want it to print. I go to Page Setup, select my printer, paper size (borderless 4x6) and orientation, click OK. Then to Print Settings, select the HP paper I am using, click borderless, click save.  If I click "scale to fit paper size", I still lose approximately 1/16" on each side. Under Image Settings, I deselect zoom to fill.  I have tried selecting it but still experience clipping. I have tried moving the margins in by fractions of an inch and I seem to recover some of the image, but its a long trial and error process that I feel I shouldn't have to do.

A 4x6 test print on regular 8.5x11 paper measures 4-1/8" x 6-1/8".  The print layout in LR clearly says 4x6.

Lightroom :: Printing With Or Without Borders Gives Same Prints?

A case in point is that if I print with no (zero) borders specified in the Layout section of the Print module I get a print which is identical to the one I obtain when I set the left and right borders to non-zero values (e.g. 2mm). This is even though Lr's screen does show no borders in the first case and the expected borders in the second case.

Lightroom :: Color Mismatch In Prints

Aug 24, 2013

I print out of Lightroom, monitor and printer calibrated with Colormunki. Soft proof with the paper profile looks fine (whether the manufacturer's or mine).

Print into jpeg file - looks fine..Print to printer with identical profile - colors don't match. It makes a significant difference whether perceptive or relative is chosen in color management, but in both cases colors just don't match. Perceptive - colors look completely different, relative - most colors are good, but deep black shadows for example are dark grey instead of black.

Printing the colorsamples for the colormunki - all colors look perfect.I've spent a fortune meanwhile on paper and ink..
