Lightroom :: Save As Saves To Lightroom
Jan 6, 2013
Before, I could do a Command-E to open in Photoshop, do a Save As (to the Desktop, for instance) and it wouldn't get put into Lightroom. Now when doing a Save As from Photoshop, the edited file gets put back into Lightroom. What am I missing?
Lightroom 4.3, Photoshop 13.03, MacPro 2.8 Ghz, Snow, 18 gb RAM

I am using Mac OS X 10.8.2, Lightroom 4.3 and Photoshop Elements 11.When I choose to edit an image with PSE from within Lightroom, it automatically saves a PSD image for in the directory that the raw file was in.
I have a defined directory structure for raw, psd, tiff, jpg etc.I would like Lightroom to give me the option of where this PSD file is saved but am unable to see how this can be done.Of course I can save the image in PSE in the directory that I choose, but then I have 2 psd images and I have to delete 1.
Is it possible to tell Lightroom where this initial PSD image should be placed.

I have Photoshop CS6 installed on my Macbook pro, os x lion, I read the other threads saying to delete plug ins from older versions of PS or third party softwares and I'm pretty sure I got them all but the problem persists.
I ran the system info option and the last 2 lines are this Plug-ins that failed to load:
Lighting Effects NO VERSION - 32-bit plug-in not supported in 64-bit - from the file “Lighting Effects.plugin”
Variations NO VERSION - 32-bit plug-in not supported in 64-bit - from the file “Variations.plugin”

When saving a psd file I can no longer save in "compatibility mode". I'm using a Mac computer with OSX (version 10.8.3) and Photoshop CS6 (version 13.1.2 x64). I just noticed this problem tonight when I tried to bring a psd file into a MUSE project. Now whenever I save a PSD file the menu that asks if I want to save in compatibility mode doesn't appear (it just saves the file). I've reset the preferences and restarted my computer but Photoshop still doesn't give me a compatibility mode option when saving a PSD file.

I have an action which applies Levels and Curves to my black and white TIFFs. At the end it "saves as" a JPEG. Originally it saved them at quality level 10 but I re-recorded the action to set the quality at 12. However, since this change the action keeps saving as into the folder where the image I used for the re-recording was located.

When I export a file from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop Elements 11 to edit. I make my edits, then click "Save." For some reason it opens the "Save-As" dialog box. How can I fix this so that I only click "Save" and then let the file return to Lightroom?

Lightroom 5 I downloaded Monday July 28 2013 , the day I downloaded it , it worked perfectly fine I even saved my file settings as " original" , and then the next day i Imported a picture , made changes to it , and attempted to save it. I saved the file as Jpeg, & Original , But neither of them would save my changes I even Did a manual of saving a Meda data to file and opening the catalog settings and enabled " automatically save changes to XMP" And then exported again. but that didn't work either [URL] I tried re starting my Windows laptop , but That didn't work either.

I am a professional photographer, and I am perfectly happy with my CS2 version of Photoshop, as I can get it to do everything I need, without spending another $600 on the newest version.
Unfortunately the new camera I purchased needs either CS6, or Lightroom 4-5 to process the RAW files. Can I simply purchase Lightroom and use it as a stand alone product, then save the file as a tiff to further work on it in my CS2?

Question 1: I have having an issue comprehending how to save a photo. In my case I select the photo, zoom in on the subject, export it to my desktop. The pciture on my desktop does not incorporate the change. Am I missing a step? What do I need to do to export it with this change? I actually watched a You Tube video on this and could not see what i was not doing.
Question 2: I just installed Lightroom and am trying to import my 12k strong photo collection. The Import button pulls in about 2k and then cannot find anymore. The photos are stored in folders by date within a master folder. I am selecting the master folder. I can go in and import the sub-fodler individually. However i do not want to do that 200 times. There is no apparent way to go into the subfolder level and select more than one folder.
upgrade my opinion of Lightroom from it's current level of POS to usuable?

I just bought a Seagate Backup Plus external hard disk drive for the sole purpose of storing my photo files in the Backup Drive. How do I do this? If I select a certain photo and go to File>Export that takes me to the Hard Drive location, which is a desktop Mac. My external HDD is connected to the Mac, but by clicking on the Hard Drive as end destination, am I storing it on the Seagate HDD? I don't think so.
Shouldn't the Mac recognize the presence of an external hard drive and give it a letter designation? By the way, I would first like to create various folders in the external drive for different photo ctegories (e.g., landscapes, people, etc.)

I am trying to save the metadata tags I have created, but I am not given the option to do so. I tried CMD + S, but that does not work and when I go to Metadata -> Save Metadata to files is not an available option. I am using Lightroom 4.4 and working with .mov files.

I have a TIFF file that I am preparing to send to an offsite printer (Bayphoto/Nations/WHCC).
They all request a max quality JPG in the sRGB color space with resolution (depending on the company) somewhere between 220 and 300.
My original TIFF has a resolution of 250.
When I 'save for web' to a JPG and then check the properties of that file, it shows a resolution of 96. When I 'save as' to a JPG and check the properties, the resolution is 250.
Since the pixel dimensions are the same, does this really matter? Seems like I should stick with 'save as' to ensure the proper resolution.

I have been doing many edits in LR5 and I am losing something along the way...this is what I have been doing....
The image is edited in LR5 (exposure, blacks, whites etc) The image is edited in Photoshop (spot heal)...(copy with lightroom edits) Edits made in Photoshop are saved back to lightroom (not sure saving method here?) Final product is exported from LR5 to email (sRGB /JPEG)
The blacks in the image look VERY different once emailed from the Mac Computer. When viewing on the IPAD, Laptop, Mobile devices these images dont look exactly the same prior to being sent via email.

I wonder when, and if, it is necessary to save metadata to the file? I copy RAW images from the camera card to DNG data type. I once accidentally deleted an edited image with unsaved metadata. I discovered the image I re-imported from my recycle bin was the original image without the updates I applied. I assume if I had saved the metadata for the image, the edits would have been brought back. Other than losing edits and other metadata when accidentally deleting an image, is there any other reasons I should save metadata to the file?
In a related question, is the original image without the metadata accessible in any other software except Lightroom if the metadata has been saved to the image file?

I've got a whole bunch of files in a catalogue that have had the metadata changed locally. I want to overwrite with the metadata thats in my LR cat. When I select them all and choose metadata>save metadata to files the little "!" dissapears from only file ata time. I matters not which module I'm in or if I go library > save metadata.
EDIT: I tried deleting the local XMP files and I get the same result

how the "save metadata to file" works. I had a corrupt catalog and thought I lost all my edits. I then read about this save feature and how it can protect me from a corrupt catalog by saving my edits. Does doing this overwrite my original file? Does saving the metadata destructively save the edits to the file? Is there a way to retrieve my original file after "saving metadata to the file" or do I need to save the orginals on a seperate harddrive?

How an I save the lightroom keyword hierarchy to the JPG?It seems that the metadata flattens the hierarchy and saves each node in the hierarchy. I had thought that LR would store with pipes between each node.
Is there a plug-in method to accomplish what I wish to do?I have no desire to preserve side-car files.
