Lightroom :: Save A Copy Of Raw Files For Security
Dec 28, 2011
I am having an ongoing problem with Lightroom 3.6. Once I have loaded the photos into Lightroom and decide to save a copy of the raw files for security, the files in Lightroom are "Lost" and I have to delete them all out of Lightroom and from the harddrive where they still are and reimport from the external harddrive. I am sure this is not normal. I would like to backup my photos especially while travelling but have resorted to "risking" it because of this issue. It happened once and I thought I must have done something daft but I was recently travelling again and exactly the same issue reacurred. I was travelling with a professional photographer who uses Lightroom all the time and he did not understand what was going on - he had never had the problem. The only difference was that I use a PC and he uses APPLE. I am very anxious to address this problem because I think I am tempting fate not backing up my photos. I am using a DELL XPS L502X Direct Base 15 laptop with i7; 8GB dual-channel; 750 GB 7200RPM hard drive and is less than 12 months old and I am using Lightroom 3.6 64 bit.
I restored my PSE9 catalog with tags and albums, but was not successful with restoring the album part. What may have happened? Is there something I should do when creating Albums? Any other recommendations, like using Tags instead? I have W7.
When you save a PDF preset it says 'security settings are not saved with PDF preset' is there anyway to change this, i want to save the security setting so i don't have to set a password each time i save it, i make dozens of PDF proofs a day and its a pain having to set it every time i publish to PDF.
My question is simply how do I change the default Save As Copy save type that Photoshop inflicts on you whenever you go to save files as .bmp, .png, etc. files?
I produce allot of images by first saving the original scan or photo as a .psd, manipulating the image, then saving as .jpg or .png for display purposes so having to delete the "copy" from my file names during a long work session gets very annoying.
I have already searched through the Preferences, checked registry file associations, studied the Preferences in Adobe Bridge + the only way I can see to fix this at the moment involves using a disassembler.
I was able to use Inventor "Save Copy As" function to create zgl files. When the zgl files were viewed with "Imagination View" program, some files looked good, while some others do not show any geometry (just white background). Do I need to change anything in the Model before executing "Save Copy As" function?
I have just completed a 169 page book and am getting ready to send it off to Blurb. I'd like to create a book from a portion of the pages in the first book. Can save two separate books, one a shortened version of the other?
I import photos from camera to catalog and format the card.now i want to copy all RAW files to CD or another SD.Where to find those photos inside my computer ?
Cannot import files into LR 4.4 or LR5 - get this message: ""Some important operations were not performed - Could not copy file to requested location" I could import files a week ago and can do it with LR3 Using an iMac LR4.4 works on the MacPro - maybe the desktop?
Why cant I import my Nikon D800E NEF files in LR 4.3 - just started recently -I have been doing the same thing for months and never had a problem. "unable to copy a file to location"
I store my images on an external hard drive. I recently upgraded from LR 3.6 on a windows XP machine to LR 5 on an iMac. I moved my catalogue fine, I think, as I can see all my images in LR 5 on the iMac. The problem is that I suspect there is some problem between the iMac and the external hard drive. I cannot import my RAW photos from my CF card into LR and onto the external hard drive. LR tells me "could not copy files to the requested location."
Is there some problem because I changed from windows to Mac? Problem bc I upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 5?
I imported some RAW image files to lightroom (initially files were at laptop) and worked with files (editing). Now I would like to move those RAW files to an external HD (in order to save space on my laptop HD). How can I save the editings that I have done into the files in order to not loose all the ediging work? This is the metadata save option?
so photoshop totally disappointed me yesterday, i spent HRS creating a graphic and i went to save it to PNG, it said i could only save it as a copy; so i clicked ok....my graphic wasn't saved AT ALL!...what am i doing wrong???
I have a PC, I've tried to safe my NEF/RAW files with the edits and it will only save either unedited photo's or jPegs. I choose export and a file to export to. WHen I open the folder the photo's are all unedited.
I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs. I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
"Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. How/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.
I shoot in RAW and use the Develop module in Lightroom. I want to save the corrected RAW files as JPEGs. Do I export them to Photoshop to save them as JPEGs?
I've just had a problem with LR4. Instaled the full version a few days ago on my old computer. Just got a new computer where I instaled LR4 and imported all my latest work and noticed that all video (.mov) metadata were not saved on to files (Photos are OK!!!) So all editing and rating/flags/color filter I've done is gone.
Thought that I forgot to save Metadata on my old computer and did a couple of tests.
I did some rating and some color filters on my actual catalog then saved the metadata a couple of times. Removed from the Library and re-imported and the metadata were not there again. Did the same to Photos and is fine!
LR4 does not write XMP to video files?
Just lost hours of work on cuting and rating a video Job since my old computer is gone.
I have 9 separate files/folders of images on my drive in LR . I want to save (export) the images to one CD, keeping the images in the 9 separate files as named in the hard drive. How do I do this?
I imported many files that were tiff & jpeg pairs (with the import preference box checked 'Do Not treat as seprate files when file names are the same') into LR3. Since then, i have been unable to write new metadata, such as captions, keywords, etc., to both the JPG and Tif files. LR3, and now also LR5 both only seem to want to write to the tiff files. How do i get the metadata easily saved onto the jeg files as well? (preferably without re-importing as separate files).
The photo files I import to Lightroom get saved under "Photos" and then under folders by date. I'd like to save them to the cloud (dropbox). How do I change their destination so they save there automatically?
How can I move pictures without losing history (exposure changes, crop changes, etc)? I have LR4 and am using DNG files. No matter how I move files (move the folder within LR, move the folder than then re-sync in LR, etc) it always loses the History. I've searched and have found numerous "tutorials" on how to properly move files but can't seem to be able to keep the History along with it (I get the last state of the image, but not the actual history itself).
I just learned how Photoshop Web Gallery works and very excited about it! I have only one problem with it. I am trying to place my web site name on all of my photos using Security Option. I use Custom Text for Content and my site name in the Custom Text field. Unfortunately, for some reason, my site name doesn't come up on the photos. Could you please advice me what I'm doing wrong? When Photoshop builds the gallery I can see my site name on my photos, but when I open gallery in the browser the site name is not there.
I am trying to download logins. On some of them I get the pop up that says windows has stopped the download because of a potential threat. I am running vista. I went into the security suite, and basically turned off all security, as I am not connected to the internet at this moment. But I have the same issues. This does not happen on all of them though.
I have CS5 Production suite with CS5 12.0.4 loaded. Windows XP 32bit. There are two patches at this link: URL.....
The patch is for version 12.0.5 or 5.1.1. When unzipping it is looking for a 12.0.5 file and it cannot find it since I only have 12.0.4 and there is no newer file when updating. When I do unzip the file and run the installer, I get Installing 12.0.5 then... There was an error installing this update. Error Code: U44M21218.
If there is a British standards for drawing symbols for electrical, fire, security, lighting etc. Seen so many different ones to use and is there a web site i can go on that would show me the correct symbols i should use.
