Lightroom :: Reviewing Steps To Create A Snapshot?

Nov 8, 2011

I have just editted an image, initially by cropping, then making some general tweaks. I saved this as a Snapshot.

After some though, I decided I wanted to change the crop, so I went back to the original image, and re-cropped it. Fine, But now I wanted to re-apply some of the changes made in the Snapshot. How can I see the steps that I went through to create the snapshot? I saw Update with Current Settings on the sub-menu (right click) for the snapshot, but wasn't sure if that was what i wanted to do.

Lightroom :: All History Steps Disappear

Sep 17, 2013

LR5 Win7.  I open a previously edited image in Develop module.  I click on the first step of the history ("import....").  Immediately, all the history steps disappear, and a new step appears, "Post-crop vignette style: paint overlay."  There are now just two steps in my history. When I try to click on the first/origial step, LR doesn't let me do that, it immediately jumps to (highlights) the "post-crop..." step.  If I go to the Effects panel, the only option under style is "paint overlay."  If I add a few more edits (change color, etc.) they work fine. But as soon as I click on the first history step, the same thing happens again.

Update as i work on this: if I click on ANY previous step in the history, LR adds the "Post-crop..." step at the top and does not then let me click on any previous step.

This does not happen with photos I have edited recently.  It only happens with previously edited photos.  I think it only happens with photos with 2003 or 2010 process, but it doesn't happen with all of them.

Then I tried opening one of these photos in the Develop module.  I create a virtual copy, then go back to the original.  I click on the first history step in the original, it does this strange thing described above.  If I add more history steps to the original, then click on the first step, it also does this strange thing.  However, if I add edits to the virtual copy, then click on the first step, it does not do this strange thing.

What I have tried:

-I have opened and restarted LR.
-I have gone back to a catalog from a few days previously and it exhibits the same behavior.
-I have tried updating the process before clicking on the earlier step, and this does not prevent the behavior.

I wanted to try to re-install LR, but when I try to download it, I get this message, "We're sorry, something seems to be wrong on our end. Please try again later."

VideoStudio :: X3 To Crash When Reviewing And / Or Rendering

Feb 25, 2011

I purchased VS X3 on Feb 5, 2010 as an upgrade to X2. I did not try before buying (my bad), I just read the feature list and it sounded good so I plunked down my dough. VS X3, although well meaning is an albatross. No matter what was tried, I was never able to successfully burn a DVD using the authoring module supplied. I have continuing program crash problems when working with mixed content, apparently caused by the transitions between them. For instance just two days ago I was making a short video with AVCHD and some still JPEGs Putting certain transitions between the media causes VS X3 to crash when reviewing and/or rendering. Remove the transition and it goes ok. This behavior is ongoing with X3 and very annoying. So I downloaded the trial of X4 and opened the exact project that was giving me fits earlier this week and guess what? Low and behold it actually works as expected.

My point to all this rambling you may be wondering? IMO X4 offers painfully little in new features and is more of a patched up version of X3 that actually works. Imagine that concept. No more editing in X3 and authoring in X2 for me that is if I plunk down another 80 bucks. I feel a bit put off by my whole X3 experience and feel X4 should be offered to us who bought the POS, non working X3 for free as a good will gesture or something. X4 mostly appears to be a debugged version of X3. Let me qualify these feelings by stating I haven't had a chance to work with X4 enough to be sure it's better, but my comments are going under that assumption. It's hard to think it could function overall worse than X3 does.

Lightroom :: HotPixels Show Up After Several LR Processing Steps

Aug 10, 2012

I am having two problems with Nikon Raw Processing and LR4.1.

1st: I am producing and processing content for ESO (European South Observatory), especially TimeLapses. Those sequences consist of hundreds of Images in hundreds of folders. Source files are either from D3s, D4, D700, D7000 or the like.

Several development changes are applied to single key images in a sequence, and those later applied to all images in that sequence. Problem is that after a certain amount of development changes (that are written in to the XMP sidecar files with LR4), hot pixels start to show up in the images that were not visible before.

Seems like the oversaturated pixel information (Hot Pixel) that is always stored within the RAW images, is lost after a certain amount of development changes.

2nd: is there a known trick how to force LR4 into updating ALL thumbnails after development changes, including those, that are outside the currently visible grid view?

It is very time consuming to manually page up and down the grid to have LR4 updating the thumbnails on each page (of for example a folder of 1200 images) so that one gets a preview of the TL sequence with the current development changes in Library View.

Lightroom :: Embedding Editing Steps In A File?

VideoStudio :: X4 Snapshot Not Working

Feb 5, 2013

I work for a school district that uses VideoStudio X4 in their High School lab. We are in a Windows Domain where each student logs in using their own user ID and password to a Windows XP Pro computer. When a Student logs in and uses VideoStudio, Take a Snapshot does not work. If I log in as an Administrator that feature works. So there is a file permissions issue - but I can not find which file/folder I need to give the students rights to. I have given the Corel folder in the Programs folder Modify rights. I also have given the Corel folder in the All Users | Documents and Settings | Application Data (hidden) folder Modify rights. Neither change has worked.

My question is - I can duplicate the assembly via the snapshot tool easily enough and they all follow each other as expected...but how can I now copy my previous set up animation onto the new cloned assemblies?

Is there a way to copy and paste the original animation - then either time shift via the curve editor or % on path controllers?

Photoshop :: Making A Snapshot As The Clone Source?

Jun 20, 2012

I'm struggling in Photoshop with a large number of scanned B/W photos from the '50s and '60s with wide areas of dust and scratches. Dreading the prospect of tedious cloning or healing, I googled for "Dustbusting 101 in Photoshop".

Make a copy of the background layer, select this layer, go to FILTER > NOISE > DUST & SCRATCHES. Set the Threshold to 0 and increase the radius setting until most of the scratches and dust disappear. Add some noise to this layer so that it closely matches your original image. Use this layer to "paint" in the dust and scratches, to do this make sure this background copy is still selected, go to EDIT > TAKE SNAPSHOT. Then select the original background and turn off the background copy layer. Click on the cloning tool and in the options box choose FROM SNAPSHOT. If the dust or scratches are light use the DARKEN MODE for the cloning tool (this will only fill in the light areas and will not affect the other areas of the image). If the dust or scratches are dark use the LIGHTEN MODE for the cloning tool and go over these areas. For this technique you should use a small brush size, although it is tempting to rush through it using a large brush."

I am stymied when I get to the part which says: "... Click on the cloning tool and in the options box choose FROM SNAPSHOT. ..."

Paint Shop Pro :: Pasting Acrobat Snapshot In X4

Jun 25, 2013

I have a problem pasting an Adobe Acrobat snapshot as new picture in PSP4. Pasting it directly e.g. to MS Word works fine, but I would need some of the snapshots also as a jpg file.

I use the Adobe Acrobat X (ver 10.1.2) Standard snapshot tool to copy a picture and then try to paste it to PSP4 as new image. The result is every time the same: about 7 mm slice from the right is moved to the left side of the image. See attachment.

The attached file is an example showing 7 mm slice from right side of the image on the left side.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Get Snapshot Of IPT File Inside It?

Oct 15, 2012

I'm developing a VB.NET framework 4.0 that must works with Inventor 2013 and Vault.

My *BIG* problem is to obtain a simply image (bmp, jpeg, whatever you want) of the ActiveDocument in Inventor when the user add the file inside Vault (VaultCheckinTop) - my goal is to create a detail technical pdf report and store it in our database.

I'm able to create ALL (get iProperties, etc) but i cannot take a snapshot of the ActiveDocument.

I've tried both Apprentice way and ClientView way registering the old-know "InventorThumbnailViewLib", without success.

I cannot (and i don't want!!) use the VisualBasic.Compatibility method because it's ultra-deprecated, and i cannot use too the VBA scripting because my application it's create in VB.NET.

replicate in "silent mode" at runtime the "Export to Immage" command of Inventor.I have read all similar post found on the net, without success

My scenario is: VS2K10 - Framework 4.0 - Windows 7 @ 64bit - Inventor 2K13 @ 64bit with Update 2 - last DeveloperTool @ 64bit
