View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had LR for 18 months and been unwell recently so not used it for 3-4 months. I've been importing photos etc. Anyway, on the left hand navigation pane there was always my photos (which I imported and were stored on my hard drive) and also collections. Easy access. These have all disappeared! I'm in a panic and have been searching for hours and hours. The left hand pane now has snapshot, history, presets etc OR cataloug and collections, but none of mine are there. have i mis hit something OR have they gone for some reason?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new PC. I installed LR 4 on the new PC. I tried to transfer all my pics from my MAC to the PC. When I open up LR4 on the PC all I see are grayed out boxes where my pictures should be with a question mark in the top left. When I click on the question mark it say original file cant be located.
I would like to transfer my entire database from the MAC to the PC but cant figure out how to transfer it all.
After creating a new catalog for photos from a collection, I'd want to remove the photos from Lightroom and keep on disk. In the collection, there are some photos that are in multiple other collections and I'd want to keep those images in their other collections and so not removed them from Lightroom.
how to easily identify those images that are in other collections and thus might not want to remove those images from Lightroom.
I can't use the library filters in collections as they return no results despite there being valid search criteria. Images with one star rating are not shown when filters are set to rated in the collection. The filters do return results when searching in collection sets however.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUnder 'Edit' I clicked on 'new catalogue' and named the new catalogue 'Lightroom Sanbonani'. I am not too sure what I did after this (maybe pressed the 'enter' key) but suddenly Lightroom closed down. When I re-opened Lightroom, I saw that all of my photos that were on the left hand side in date folders had disappeared, INCLUDING all of my 'Collections' and work that I had done on the photographs.
The photos are obviously all in my 'backups' folder on my harddrive, but all of the work that I had done in adjusting the photographs in Lightroom are no longer to be seen. I now have to do the adjustments all over again.
Why did I 'lose' all of my photographs inside Lightroom?
I tried to import my PSE10 catalog into LR4 on a Mac (lion). It only imported 92 photos out of the 12000. it says: Some Photoshop Elements photos were not included in the Lightroom catalog. The pohotos and reasons are listed below. These files were either unavailable or damaged. (15216).These files are not supported by Lightroom. (10)They all there and could be imported. However, in that case, all the collections are gone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm finally moving my 15,000 photos from iphoto to Lightroom. I'm going to start from scratch, import all the pictures into Lightroom 5, and add tags to all the photos and create collections and smart collections. I have a desktop and a laptop. I'm traveling, so I want to do a lot of the work on my laptop (adding the tags and creating collections and smart collections). When I return home, can I use an external HD to transfer the photos to my desktop and keep all the tags and collections (and metadata)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if there is a simple way to export photos from lightroom into seperate folders based on collections.
For example, in LR5, I have collection set "2014". Within "2014", there are sub-collections Jan, Feb, March... and so on. How can I export all the photos, at once, from the "2014" collection set so they end up in a folder structure that mirrors the collection set and sub-collections. My collection is more complex and contains many more sub-collections than the example provided, so I would really like to avoid having to export each sub-collection separately.
In searching for this, I found mention of some sort of plug-in that apparently was capable of this, but I could not get it to work. The GUI was not intuitive and I didn't have time to learn it. Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of the plug-in since I deleted it. But is there any way to do this without having to learn code or install plug-ins?
I have recently moved my photo files to a different harddrive from their original location. Some of these images had been included in "collections" prior to the move. Now, when I open a "collection", the photo files are no longer associated with the collection. How do I reassign a location to these files in these collections?
I have already reassigned the photo files in the catalog to their new harddrive location.
i have line in the drawing that exists on layer A-Wall it has different lineweight 0.05 from true wall. Now usually my routine : i select this line and then select similar to convert it to layer glazing.
i need lisp that by one command convert the objects on layer A-wall with layer 0.05 only to glazing.
I have imported a preset and want to use it on several photos in the same folder. How do I do this? I cant seem to see the option when I try to sync them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a connection between the performance of LR 4 (LR 5) and the number of photos in the catalog? Will it slow down LR with a directory of more than 40,000 images (Win7, 4 Gb RAM)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI realize that there is no preset limit in the number of images that can be saved in a single (Lightroom 4) catalog but I need to know that given a well equpped PC (system with 2 sockets/8 cores, 8+GB of memory and plenty of fast hard drive), how many images can be _reliably_, and with acceptable performance, kept in a single catalog ?
So far I have been maintaining 1 catalog per year for my images but creating collections or galories that span over several years has become a pain so I am considering consolidating all the catalogs into one, which would then contain well over 500k photos.
I am a software type and am aware that the LR implementation does not impose internal hard limits on the individual dimensions it deals with but I would like to know:
- What are the sizes of the catalogs that the software is being stress-tested with before it is released (rough numbers would do)
- Is it possible that an internal _incoonsistency_ could be introduced in a part of the catalog that would go undetected (by the global consistency checking) and would only surface when you try to access that area which may not have been touched for many years (in other words is it possible for the catalog to become _partially_ corrupted and yet pass the (checksom-like ?) verification that takes place when the catalog is being backed up ?)
- and, in case it matters, there are mostly raw images, ranging form 10 to 50 mega pixels each (not that these should impact the size of the catalog.)
i'm intending to make a photo calender. i've selected 12 best photos for the job, but what i lack now is uniqueness. other than the predominant filters that i can apply in CS3, playing with black/white/sepia colours, what other things can i do to make the images look more stunning/refreshed? maybe you guys can introduce some workflow techniques to me, or perhaps some nice add-ons that i can use to make this wonderful workpiece.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there somewhere in the interface that shows a counter of the number of flagged (or rated or labeled) photos in the folder or selection?
There must be, but I just don't see it or must have turned it off.
Just to be clear... For example, I have a folder with 150 images; I've flagged 37 of them; rated 25 two stars and 15 red label. Is there some counter or other way to see at a glance just how many there are filtered?
I try to visualize the pictures that I have not classified in a collection. How to use the system's filter (or other) to get it ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to select a folder (say, all images in 2013) and then control click a smart collection I had created (rated > 1 star) and that would filter my images from 2013 and only display the ones that were rated higher then one star.
I cannot seem to get this to work in 5.3 (win7 pc fwiw). When I do this, it shows images that aren't from 2013 (the folder I selected).
To be clear, I expect to see images from 2013 that are rated > 1 star. If I select a folder with a single unrated image and then control click a "> 1 star" smart collection, it shows the image still. It doesn't seem to filter, it's showing both the contents of the smart collection and my one image.
After deleting a Smart Collection in Lightroom 3.6, the option to Edit Collection that was previously in the context menu is gone. Double-clicking the Collection Name will not bring up the Edit Dialog either. I tried removing the preferences and letting Lightroom create a new one but that didn't fix it either. Not sure what else to try.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am starting to use LR3 on my iMac (Lion OS)
I noticed that when I search for a filename that contains special characters (e.g. "é" or "ç" or "à"), Lightroom cannot find the word.
So if I look for file petit-dejeuner, LR3 will find it but when I look for petit-déjeuner, LR will not find any picture that contains this word.
I have a lot of pictures with special characters (french)
See picture name below has "déjeuner", it shows in lightroom catalog
When I add "déj" in the text search filter, picture disappears from search results
Some of my folders are in norwegian special characters (æøå). When I try to synchronize such a folder it can say that I have 152 new photos (all the photos in this folder) and that 152 photos are missing. When I use "Show in Finder" all the photos are ok. I don't like the folders to not be in sync, so I go on and synchronize the folders. Then I end up with two folders inside LR, but one is grayed out and contains 0 photos. I delete the grayed out one and continue to use LR. When I try synchronize folders right after this, it looks fine. But after a while the problem is back and I have to repeat the synchronizing. If I select "Update Folder Location" instead, the problem is fixed.
I use Lightroom 4.1 RC (but the problem was present in LR 4 as well). I have never used LR before, so I don't know about previous versions. My os is Mac OS X 10.7.3.
After importing a wedding I would like to be able to sort the images into 13 different catagories. EX: Brides, Grooms, Rings, Family etc..... Then on future weddings I can do the sme thing into the same folders to make a collection of each catagory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently converted all of my pictures to a new format. I want to make a new catalog, identical to the old one, with the new pictures. I imported everything, but I don't know what to do about collections and smugmug folders. I still have the old catalog, and all of the old pictures. But I need to reupload all of the new pictures to my smugmug site, same as before. So, I need to recreate every collection and add the new pictures like they were before. Is there a faster way to do this? Can I use my old catalog to somehow recreate the collections? I still have the old catalog, and all of the old pictures. All of the filenames of new and old pictures are identical. I also have a few collections that I would prefer not to manually recreate.
