Lightroom :: How To Merge Catalogs By Importing A Catalog Into A Master Catalog
Dec 15, 2012I'm using Lightroom 1. I tried to merge catalogs by importing a catalog into a master catalog, but there were some problems. The one I noticed immediately was that the collections are not correct. It imported the collections, but for example one collection now has only 4 photos when the originbal had 140? How can I fix that? (Although not necessariy a problem, it seems to have the wrong number of photos imported too. It says the previous import was 3175 photos when it was more like 10,000.)

Mar 13, 2014I have Photoshop Elements 10 on my Mac and my PC. I have several catalogs on an external harddrive with older photos. I have tried to get my Elements on my Mac to read those catologs. However, it gives me a message that the catologs are in a older format and need to be upgraded or damaged and need to be repaired. I ran the repair utiity on the catologs using Elements on my PC and it found nothing wrong. My PC version can open the files without any issues. Both versions of Elements are the exact same. I installed them both the same day from the same CD set (Elements 10 came with both PC and Mac versions).

Lightroom :: Importing From HD To Catalog
Feb 9, 2013Using an iMac OS Lion 10.7.5. When I import a folder from the HD to the Catalog in LR4, the file sequence changes. The files on the HD were sorted and renamed in sequence using Adobe Bridge. When the files appeared in LR4 the sequence has change drastically and in no apparent sequence. There is no file name visible in Catalog. Why has the sequence changed?

My main catalog is at home with all the pictures stored on NAS; when I'm abroad often I start to organize the travel pictures in a "temp/local" catalog on notebook. The Import Photos from catalog is fine to import the pictures with their develop setting, but I would like also to import the collection, expecially the custom user sort order I did in the collection (so I think the Export collection as Catalog is not useful).

When I press on the one or two entries that mention the word catalog, I get sent back to lightroom where I'm told this is an invalid catalog.

Both catalogs had flickr photosets, and I wanted all the photosets to show up in the main catalog into which the other catalog was imported. However, the flickr photosets apparently were not imported.
Is there any way to import these, or are the links between my photos and their status as being published to flickr permanently lost for the photos which were imported?

Feb 4, 2014I accidentally deleted my LR4 catalog, which I cannot recover. I have been unable to import folders from the source without all the files appearing as a single batch, i.e: no sub-folders in the import window. Must I import the content of each sub-folder into the corresponding destination folders separately: must I uninstall LR4 and reinstall it so that it can create a new default catalog? What is the process I need to follow in order to import the sub-folders?

Dec 27, 2011So I was just importing all my xmas shots yesterday, and I kinda did it wrong in lightroom...as a result, the folder I created is now the "main folder" i.e the one that has all my photos under it, as subfolders and as a result, ALL my photos has now gone offline or missing.
The new folder I created sits on top of the hieracy, and I dont want that of course, I want it under my "2011" folder, which was the main... I cant move the new folder called "xmas 2011" and If i try to delete it, it says do you want to delete 2200 pictures, which is everything I have under the original "2011" folder...
Im pretty new to lightroom, and the file handling and renaming of libery's seems very confusing, but this is really bad and its ALL my pictures being listed as missing of offline
I tried to open via backup, but the lastest backup I can find is from Aug 2011, which I know isnt true, as I back up everytime I have used lightroom, but I cant find any other back ups !!

Apr 5, 2014Trying to troubleshoot a weird issue w/ Lightroom 5.3 on a PC. Updated my current catalog and wanted to import a couple of old catalogs to consolidate images. The first two of the old catalogs updated and imported just fine, previews were merged, data seamlessly integrated -- all good. But the third catalog is giving me no end of grief. It goes through the update process to be LR5 compatible, but when I say "import everything" on the list of found images/folders, it tries for a bit, then fails out with "unknown error". This happens regardless of what I pick from that catalog -- even a single folder. It also happens if I export a sub-catalog from the old catalog and try to import that. But the updated catalog runs just fine on its own.
I've tried optimizing the offending catalog and checked for any possible issues with folder names, missing images, incompatible formats etc. etc.
I'm reluctant to try the "reverse" operation and import my main catalog back into the old, "challenged" catalog for fear of future corruption.

This time LR5 appears to do most of the work as a file almost the same size as the original LR4 catalog is created, but the "catalog upgrade in progress" message just freezes.Should I reinstall LR5?

Mar 8, 2012I am very happy with some 200 keywords that I use in PSE10 under Win7/64 on over 20k images. Is it possible, in LR4, to pick up files with keywords written to metadata, and work with them in LR4 (selection, editing, etc.) WITHOUT damaging or "upgrading" the PSE10 catalog? If yes, could PSE10 pick up keywored changes made in LR4?
Or do you have to commit to one program or the other?

Apr 27, 2012After installing LR4 I imported the PSE10 catalog. No problems. But when I later import more pictures into PSE - is it possible to add these pictures automatically to the LR catalog without importing the pictures once more? Or do I have to import the same pictures once more into LR and therefore have to copies of each new picture in two different folders - one for PSE and one for LR? So far I don't think the auto import will work, because as far as I understand
1)all the new pictures that PSE saved then will be moved to another folder and therefore will be missing afterwards, and
2)auto import will not monitor subfolders.

Jun 6, 2012I'm a new Macbook Pro, Lightroom 3 and photoshop elements 10 user (PC went bang). what I'm doing wrong.
I've set PSE10 up in the preferences in Lightroom, but when I try to edit the image in PSE10 from LR3 the image doesn't open. The copy in LR3 is created and PSE10 opens to the initial screen with the option to edit or organize. I then click into edit, PSE10 opens but no image ?

The pohotos and reasons are listed below.These files were either unavailable or damaged. (15216).These files are not supported by Lightroom. (10)They all there and could be imported.However, in that case, all the collections are gone.

Nov 29, 2013I have LR4, and once I make some develop changes I've been exporting the files I want to use as DNG. I then open them in PSE10 to make final edits. It's been working fine, actually I had an older version of Adobe Raw in my PSE on my other computer. So when I opened in PSE it would ask if I wanted to conver to compatible version to edit in camera raw. I always said no b/c I didn't need to do anymore raw edits. Now that I have installed PSE on my new computer, it has the new ACR version I guess. When I open the DNGs to edit now I no longer get this error message, but it's showing my contrast, etc. as a standard raw setting instead of the changes I made in LR. Some are showing....like vibrance, but "recovery" which I know is "highlights" in LR, and other things are not showing correctly. I know that the options are different, but I don't want to use the ACR settings that it's using when I open the file, or have to go through them again.

Jan 13, 2011I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.
I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…

Jan 15, 2014I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?

i saw that there is an option to export all my LR4 catalog as a new catalog and than import it into LR5.i haven't tried that yet since i'm worry that i might loose some info. will this process (of exporting and importing) keep all my LR settings? like develop user presets, keywords and collections?
