Lightroom :: How To Move Files From One Folder To Another
Aug 3, 2012
I created multiple folders under "My Lightroom Pictures." I created two separate folders titled "Herons and Egrets" (one folder misspelled "Heerons") and would like to move the single photo in one folder to the other. How do I do it?
Very recently I have lost the ability to move files from one folder to another in Lightroom 4.4. I was highlighting the files I wanted to move and then I would drag them to the folder I wanted to move the files to. Now if I highlight numerous files when I try to drag the files Lightroom will just highlight the file my cursor is hovering over. It then won't let me drag the file to the folder I desire.
I was in the process of moving a folder inside or LR. I might have clicked and moved it twice since it was very slow. LR wasn't able to complete the move and gave me an error message. After I clicked "OK" on the error message, I wasn't able to find my folder/images from the old or new location. I did a spotlight search on my mac, but I wasn't able to find them anywhere. Where has my folder/images gone? I tried to locate them without any success.
I have a folder in Lightroom 3.6 that I edited after I had already moved to LR 4. All of my actual image files are on an external hard drive. The folder of edits in question is not in my LR 4 catalog. What is the best way to move that folder with all the edits and virtual copies from 3.6 to 4 and then link the edits to the images on the external drive?
I'm using Lightroom 5 and moving photos to a sub folder. Here's where I'm running into a problem:
My photos are in a folder named "to file"Inside "to file" I create a folder named "2013-05"I select some photos from "to file" and click and drag them into "2013-05"They appear in "2013-05" as expectedThe problem is, they still appear in the parent folder "to file" My question is, once I move photos to a sub folder how can I prevent them from appearing in the parent folder?
Currently moving from pc to mac for my LR. Why do I have to move my Backup folder and how do I do this because I do not want to move all of my photos I have on my old computer?
FIRST: I cannot move photos from one folder to another, drag and drop does not function at all, and there is no 'move' command with a right-cllick on a photo. I can move folder locations, drag and drop on the folder view works, but I want to move individual photos. I am sure I could do it with previous versions.
SECOND: If I click on HELP, I simply get a box up from Adobe AIR saying: This installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance. I am loathe to re-install as last time I did that, I had a grand hassle over number of activations, even though I am only running on my one and only machine.
how to move a video, from one folder to another inside LR 4? I've moved pictures from one folder to another inside LR 4 several times before, I just marked the pics I wanted to move, and draged them to the desired folder, but I can't do it with these videos... The arrow in the left side , in folders, pointing to the folder I wish to move, is greyed out.
I had folders on my internal drive that used the same structure as the populated folder structure on my external hard drive. I just went through and keyworded all the internal drive photos (which happened to be iphone photos), then, on the internal drive, I selected the 2013 folder, selected all the images in that folder and dragged them to the 2013 folder on my external drive. (all steps were done within LR5) Now, on the ext drive, when I choose 2013, I see all of the photos, but most of the subfolders now say 0. How can I get my images back into the folders they were already in?
Over time, I've organized related keywords into various folders for simplicity. I come to find that I don't care for this system and I wish to have all my keywords in a single list without being grouped into folders.
How do I move (not delete) individual keywords out of the folders where they currently are located?
I opened my catalog today and went to one of my folders (2011/9 September). I noticed that there were pictures in the folder that did not belong and had the wrong name attached to them. I was surprized so I right clicked selected "Show in Finder" the folder 2011/9 September opened the photo was not in the folder.
Knowing the folder it should be in I went there and sure it enough it is there with it's original name.Went back to lightroom optimized the catalog... still there. Deleted folder in Lightroom, reimported, but the files came back.
The folder on the finder has 96 pictures, the folder in Lightroom shows 146.I can deal with removing the 40 odd files in this situation but I am afraid it will occur in one of the folders where there are a couple of thousand images. All my other folders seem fine for now, what would cause this issue?
Trying to move some photos to a different folder in the Library Module. I highlite the photos, click on the folder I want to move them to and press "Move Selected Photos to this Folder." Then I get an error message that the photos are already in the destination. OK. 1 Problem I just made the folder. My computer crashed about 3 weeks ago. Got it back up and reinstalled LR3.
Made 2 catalogs;
1. Personal and 2. Work Photos.
All of my personal photos I put in the personal cat with no sub-folders, my work went into the work which I made sub-folders. Today I finally got the time to set up my Personal folder. Made 3 new folders, one was Vietnam, which I divided into sub-folders of the place I was stationed and my R&R to Hawaii. Started separating the photos, all went well till I tried to move photos to a sub-folder call Phu Loi. Then I got the error message.
I have a working "watched folder", established through Lightroom's auto-import settings. When I place an image into that folder, it is imported into my lightroom catalog.
However, if I put a folder of images into that watched folder (i.e. "James and Stephanie" is put into a "wedding" folder), nothing happens. I do not want all of my images in one single folder; that's why I have Lightroom, so they can be organized in folders but collected in a database.
I also do not understand why Lightroom wants to move auto-imported images into a destination folder.
I would like to drop a folder into the "watched folder" and have Lightroom import (without moving the image) into my catalog.
I was surprised to not find this issue in Internet searches; is it dreadfully obvious, or is there a better way that I'm not familar with?
This warning pops up from time to time as I migrate my LR 3 picture folders from an internal hard drive on an iMac to an external hard drive. The folders and all the images show up on the external hard drive O.K. and are accepted by the LR 3 database.A greyed folder with zero files remains behind on the internal hard drive in the LR 3 application Folder.
On Windows, it is possible to move the presets folder to a user-defined location?
By default the presets folder is located at C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingAdobe. I use Lightroom on both a desktop and laptop and ideally I'd like to sync the presets between them by moving the presets folder to my SkyDrive folder. This way if I create a new preset on one device, it will automatically sync to the other device via SkyDrive.
Yes I realize I can store presets within the catalog folder and I could move my catalog to a SkyDrive folder which would technically accomplish my goal. However that would require sync'ing my entire catalog which I do not want to do; that would generate a lot of syncing traffic back and forth all the time. So I want my catalog and my presets in seperate locations, and I want to define where my presets are stored, which I haven't seen an option for.
I just filled up my first hard drive and I added a new one, I was wondering, for the sake of the consistency of my strictly date-ordered catalog, if there was a way to change the order in which the hard drives are displayed. I'm on lightroom 3!
Following previous LR upgrades (3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6), old files were automatically removed from the Program Files folder. However, I just upgrades from 3.6 to 4.0 and notice that the old files are still on my hard drive in the 3.6 folder. Do I need to keep these files or can I UNINSTALL LR 3.6?
I am using Lightroom 4.3 on a windows 7 64 windows computer with two hard drives. One dedicated to running programs and the larger one for storage of all my other stuff. Well my backups and download backups folders are on the smaller drive and I need to move them to the other larger drive. Can I do this without totally freaking Lightroom out?
I have a foler with just over 5065 images that I am trying to import, but when the imprt dialogue window comes up, it only shows 4995. Have tried unchecking the 'dont import duplicates' and have trried multiple times, but for some reason it only registers 4995 images. Where the other 75 could be hiding? all the other folders in the main folder imported fine..
I have used LR 4 in the past, and when I wanted to export my RAW files into JPEGS I would go to File>Export. I tried to do the same with LR CC, got the page, however, I couldn't figure out what the page should be set up for so that the jpegs went into the same folder as the RAW files. They went into another folder on my C drive. Or I get an error message:
Unable to Export An internal error has occured; Win32 API error 2 ("The system cannot find the file specified.") when calling ShellExecuteEXW from AgWorkspace.shellExecute
How can I do what I want to do, which is to export RAW images to JPEGS?
Suddenly the images I edit in photoshop (and then save) are appearing at the end of the folder rather than right after the original image as I much prefer.
How do I apply an edit to every file in a folder? Every time I need to do this, I end up flailing around for 10 minutes before I can finally get it to work. Or, sometimes I give up and manually paste the copied settings to each file one at a time. It seems a no-brainer that "copy settings" followed by "paste settings" to all files selected would do the trick. Or "copy settings" foillowed by "Sync settings." But it doesn't work.
I am reorganizing my file structure in LR4. I can move jpegs from one folder to another but I get an error message when I try to move the NEF files. I saw another discussion that mentioned that Lightroom has a problem moving NEF files. I don't have a large collection yet (less than 10,000 images) but I have made extensive edits on many of the shots so I don't want to import them from scratch again.
I am using Light room 5..upgraded from 3.Discovered Light room had been sending images into my music folder called 2013 as well as the picture folder I chose as export destination.Editing was showing in both.
I thought this was just virtual copy, not to worry.. until I tried to delete it in my music folder..and the recycle bin found the folder too large and only the option was to delete permanently? Seriously a huge file! (in a very short time) So I did delete folder 2013 ..and another folder was recreated in my music folder (2013) with the very next edit.
I created a new catalogue “going in the back door of Light room”.. and moved this "music folder" into pictures folder within Light room as well and then clicked the option of always load this new catalogue on start up. Tried another edit this morning.
If I import a whole folder of mixed RAW and jpeg images, but only edit one. The whole imported selection will be sent to my music folder..and where Lightroom can only find the images.
If I delete this folder and go back to the original RAW file in Light room..a preview of the image cannot be shown in develop module...although the image can be developed.
Plus...the original RAW file is still in the original folder within the picture folder as well...and the edited picture is in a separate correct picture folder where I intended it to go. So It seems I am duplicating the RAW files into this very mysterious folder as soon as I import them.
