Lightroom :: Copy Library And Pictures Back After Mother Board Failure
Dec 17, 2012
My kids' PC's motherboard failed. I was fortunately able to access all data on the old HDD and copied it to my machine. I have to replace the motherboard, CPU and memory. Everything is working OK again.
My son's library files were all in his "My Pictures" folder of which I have a copy. What is the best way of getting everything back without the need to import everything again. I do have a copy of "Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat" - I have a copy of the complete old folder.
Using Lightroom 3 - I am importing photos into folders and subfolders with titles created in the destination panel - the titles display in the destination panel as well as in the hard drive root directory under pictures - Lightroom - my Lightroom photos - title of folder of subfolder etc. as expected.
-however-
After the photos are imported and I go back into the library to review them - clicking on Macintosh HD (I am using OS X version 10.7.3) reveals only dates the photos were taken and no root directory folder or subfolder titles. Using catalog I can see that all of the photos have been imported into the library.
I wanted to create a new calander for 2014, so I created a new catalog and started to import 25 images which were in my library in various folders. once I was done with the selections I could see that there are several catalogs set up from each folder of origin. if I click on library to get out of the "catalog" mode nothing happens. I can no longer see any of my library folders on the left panel, unless I try to import more images.
How do I delete or cancel this request to add a catalog and get back to my original library? also, in hind sight, I believe I wanted to add a "collection". please confirm the difference between a collection, smart collection and a catalog.
I am trying to make a copy of my external drive that I use for all the photos in LR5. I was told that I could do that for a backup and lightroom would recognize it. Well, i make the copy and have question marks by all the photos when I use the back-up drive.
I want to use external edit (in my case: Adobe Photoshop Elements) for editing features not available in LR3 (for example: skew) and easily save back as JPG. The source in LR3 is a DNG-image.
LR3 offers easy workflows out-to-external-editor>back-to-LR3 if you save back as TIFF or PSD.
But, I didn't find any easy or not extremely clumsy way to saving the edited photo back as JPG to LR3 and having it organized "close" to the original/source-DNG (preferably stacked).
I recently upgraded to Premier Elements 12 and loaded my photo and videos from my android (Galaxy 4G Samsung) into the new program. After which when I went to my Lightroom 5.3 I found my entire library folders except one picture with a missing file statement, gone, disappeared. All gone but the one picture. The original files are still on my hard drive, but can I get them back with my Lightroom changes that haven't been saved? How do I do this? or are they all gone?
Master photo library resides on a RAID6 & a drive failed, so I copied entire library to desktop so that I could continue working while RAID was repaired. LR4 won't recognize this library & wants to IMPORT/ADD all photos again. I just need LR4 to access the library I already have.
I installed Lightroom 4.4 recently. I have been using 2.x for years.
I exported a number of jpg files into a JPG subfolder. These jpgs were generated from cr2 files. The "add to catalog" option was selected. My problem is that not only the exported files/pictures were not added to the catalog but that I cannot add them manually (by syncing the upper-level folder).
I copied a library from an external hard to an internal hard drive. The issue is the library copy dose not show the adjustments made in LR of the original library. How do I connect the adjustments from the original library to the copy library?
I use a file structure in lightroom with subfolders within folders to organize photos; some of these top level folders contain many thousands of pictures; I have found that any top level folder with greater than 3000 photos will no open, and therefore all photos within that top level folder are not searchable. When I try opening such a large folder, the phrase "no photos in selected folder" is displayed. This has never been happened in LR3, but is happening in LR4. Folders less than abour 2500 photos can be opened and searched easily.
Why Lightroom does not support most simple function like a COPY? I have pictures in RAW format and need to copy it on usb drive and fail there no COPY only export. Another problem, there no PNG export. Every program I know reads and saves as PNG. Lightroom is the frist one that does not do it ...
Or there any way to bypass that ridiculous limitation without changing a program?
i have just one question. Why lightroom 4( full version) won't import my photos directly from my Canon 7D, after connecting it to my laptop with USB( Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)? Lightroom won't find any files, even on full CF card.
In the process of trying to find out how to name virtual copies I came across Julianne Kost's blog which explained it very well.
However, I can't find the rather useful option of showing "copy name or file name" but rather just "copy name" or "file name" on their own. Since I'm using LR3 (Mac), is this a feature available only in LR4 or am I doing something wrong?
I would like to consolidate all of my image files onto one hard drive by copying them from multiple drives to one large new one. The desired result is that I would have my library on that new drive, with all the links making sense to LR, but leaving the original files on those original drives as an archival back up. I know how to MOVE the files within LR, but I can't figure out how to COPY them. If the image files were not already in the catalog, I would just import them using "copy and add to catalog." Worst case, I suppose I could move all of the files to the new drive and then export copies to the old drives, but that seems very time consuming. I have more than 3TB of files.
I've completed a book and want to make sure that when I return to it, the pictures which will appear only if the edits I made at the time I published the book. I find a "create virtual copy" option when first saving a book, but am a bit befuddled as to how to ensure the book is associated with the correct copy of the photo upon subsequent saves.
Sharpening applied in develop module is not shown when switching back to library module. It looks the problem occurs when having size to "FIT". With 1:1 there seams to be no issue. Export also looks fine in 1:1.
I use Mac 10.9.1, LR5.3, Nikon NEF 24Mbit from D600.
I am having using CVS Pro 4 for a few months. Now my hard drive is about filled up. But I cannot find where the libray is in my hard drive. where is the directory the library is located so I can back up my video files.
trying to come up with a Mother of Pearl effect. So far, my attempts have been dismal, to say the least. None of my scores of plugins offer that effect.
I back-up a 23 GB library to two external hard drives about once a week. I always wipe out the previous back up set and copy and paste fresh each time and let it run.
Ive also been thinking of adding an online backup (carbonite etc) as another failsafe.
How do automatic back-ups work in the realm of parametrically linked files such as Inventor. Im a little worried about that concept.
I wonder how many of you would love to have that back. Cant find a poll option here. So guess just reply. Not that its gonna change anything. But atleast we would know how many wish to see it as it used to be. May be AD might have second thoughts.

My previous computer crash . I installed Element 7 in my new computer. Now I would like to retrieve. My library to my organizer in my Photshop Element 7. How can I do it?
I have been using Photoshop Elements 10 back-up service (for which I pay an annual fee) and now want to restore the pictures. I cannot figure out how to do this.
I have successfully changed a background using the Layers feature. Part of that process was copying and pasting by Edit--Copy and Edit--Paste in Cs4. I've done it only once,
and now that I am onto a new image that I'd like to copy, the Copy button is greyed out, and all I am allowed to select is Paste and when I select that, it only pastes the image I'd done the first time. I've closed out Photoshop twice, and it is still doing the same thing. I just want my Copy button back...
