View 1 Replies View RelatedHere in Denver on the day the earth was ending, we had a large power outage in my neighborhood. I was intently working on some images when it hit and it took my display and a few hard drives down. My battery backup did take over. It was a true test for the old battery backup system. Well...one battery was dead, another worked great, but was connected to an old computer I don't even use anymore. I was able to safely shut down some of my equipment. When the power came back on, I fired everything up again and it all seemed good. Lightroom opened up with no problems and I continued to work. But when I tried to quit and save....it couldn't because the drive with my Lightroom cat backup had died.
Now, I can't open my master catalog. I'm getting an error message that says "Lightroom can not use the catalog because it's not writable and can't be opened". I'm using vers 3.2 on a Mac running OS 10.6.8. I've researched this a little bit and have read about a locked file that needs to be thrown away.....I don't see a locked file. I do see one that says .lrcat-journal.....is this the locked file?What should I try next?
I get the error message Lightroom catalogs can not be opend on network volumes, removable storage or read only volumes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Lightroom 5.2, which I installed a few days ago. Yesterday, it started failing to open with a crash report generated. I read that upgrading to OS X 10.8.5 fixed this crash. So I upgraded yesterday evening. However I still get a crash. I do have a HD that I recently installed (perhaps 1 week ago) that is 3 TB. I can also open LR 4 and I did delete the Lightroom 5 preference file. Here is the crash report that appears a few seconds into trying to start up LR 5.2.

"The Lightroom Catelog named "Lightroom 4 Catelog" cannot be opened because another application already has it opened. Quit the other application before trying to launch it.I have nothing else open.
I cannot open one of my catalogs in Lightroom 4 .
It's a large catalog, created in LR4, and it's always worked fine. It lives on an external hard drive (along with all the pictures in that catalog).
The other night, I set another hard drive down and touched the first drive, accidentally disconnecting it from the computer while LR was open (or possibly while LR was in the process of opening).
When I reconnected the drive and tried to open the catalog again, I received a message that the catalog couldn't be opened since it was open in another application. (Nothing else was open or using it, obviously.)
I researched the internet, found a suggestion, and removed the .lock file from the catalog folder. NOW I am getting the message "Unexpected error opening catalog. The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error."
---- IF I have to reload the software, do I lose anything? Do I lose my edits, my history, my preferences?
I want to preserve the history of all of the edited photographs, not just the "composite LR adjustment" or whatever you call it... some of the folders of pictures have matching .xmp files and some do not. I think this might be due to a preferences change a few months after I created the catalog - I guess it doesn't apply this change retroactively, or perhaps it would have had I opened those folders... not sure. I had backed up the original RAW files (which are still present on the external hard drive and seem just fine), but the catalog hasn't been backed up recently. I think I have to re-install LR4, and I just want to make sure I can keep all the work I've done.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have spent the entire day trying to solve this and I finally found a fix but not the cause. I have tried all the typical ways to sync/read/render to see the xmp data in LR.
After all of this I found the only way for me to see the xmp data is to open the xmp as a text document then save it go into lightroom read metadata and it shows up. This obviously isnt a workable solution for thousands of files so I need to find a cause.
So a little info. I'm using LR5 on a windows. I edit clients images then send them the xmp files with those edits. I have one client thats photos when imported do not show metadata or develop adjustments. This is the only solution I have found to see the info. I believe they are using LR 4 and a MAC.
Is it possible that the problem is the original files are saved on a mac then transfered to my windows machine.
Have just upgraded to LR 3.5 but same problem persists. At times one of the pics suddenly develops pink boxes.
I was told this is either a problem with card reader or card. I have been checking for solutions for a couple of weeks, never thought it was card or card reader. Today I opened a folder of pics into LR that I know were fine but suddenly one of the pics developed these pink blocks. That pic is finished, I have tried closing down and re-opening and even opeing that pic in another programme but that pic has had it.
#1. My cameras are Canon 7D's and I shoot raw. Is there a maximum number of pics I can open in LR?
#2. In spite of defrags etc my PC is running very slowly nowadays and I get the feeling that that is the area causing the problem and may not be a LR prob at all. Is it possible that LR crashes on a pic if it cannot assemble all the information it needs within a set period?
I used the Lightroom beta 3.5 beta with CR 6.5 beta and now have installed the update of these two products. In beta I was able to open Phase One IQ raw files just fine but now with the 3.5 release I obtain a funny Magenta color cast that displays in the Library Mode and thumbnail but does not display in the Development Mode. This happens on both my Mac Laptop and workstation. Mac OS 10.6.8. I have not yet tried uninstalling LR and reinstalling, will do that next. The first image is in the Library mode after I have opened the file. The second is from the Development Mode. Notice how the tumbnail at the bottom remains constant but the small image on the left has changed in the Development mode to its natural look.
I should say that this color cast happens after I adjust the temperature settings of the image, not just from mearly opening it in Development.
I have a trouble with metadata conflicts.
I'm not making any adjustment in Lr. I'm just opening, editing and saving a TIFF file in Ps and I'm always getting the following warning. What can cause a metadata conflict for such a case?
I have LR4, and once I make some develop changes I've been exporting the files I want to use as DNG. I then open them in PSE10 to make final edits. It's been working fine, actually I had an older version of Adobe Raw in my PSE on my other computer. So when I opened in PSE it would ask if I wanted to conver to compatible version to edit in camera raw. I always said no b/c I didn't need to do anymore raw edits. Now that I have installed PSE on my new computer, it has the new ACR version I guess. When I open the DNGs to edit now I no longer get this error message, but it's showing my contrast, etc. as a standard raw setting instead of the changes I made in LR. Some are showing....like vibrance, but "recovery" which I know is "highlights" in LR, and other things are not showing correctly. I know that the options are different, but I don't want to use the ACR settings that it's using when I open the file, or have to go through them again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Snow Loepard 10.6.8. I upgraded from LR 1.7 to LR 4.2 today, and chose to upgrade the catalog as part of that. This all went fine - no errors.
I can see all my old photos in Library mode, and when I click on any of them - I can do Quick Edits (or anything else allowed) in Library mode; however, LR 4.2 isn't leting me open the selected pic in Developer mode
I Just had this message from my LR after 3 years of use the catalogs from the same drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedImages opening from LR to PS6 are opened as CR2 files (canon) and then saved in PS - the resulting saved images are PSD files. These files are not added to the LR catalog without re-importing them. This behavior is different than it was in CS5 - in CS5 they are opened as PSD and immediately added to the LR catalog. I want the same bahavior in CS6. In LR I have set preferences to open files as PSD but they are not PSD until they are saved in PS.

Lightroom is running on MacPro. When printing I am attaching an ICC profile provided by the bureau that is going to produce the prtins. Having said this the file cannot be opened neither on a Mac nor on a Windows PC.
Up until now, i used to exported as TIFFs but after reading Jeff Schewe book The Digital Print i have become convinced that printing through LR to a file is much more efficient.
I just bought a new Toshiba Satellite P855-335 laptop running Windows 8 with a Nvidia GeForce GT 640M video card, but I am only able to open my photos when I disable the Graphics Processor from within CS6 Preferences. When the check is active,
I see a black screen and the photo is shown only in the Navigator. Is really anoying to have a useles yet powerful video card for my photo editing. My guess is that I am still able to work with my photos because the integrated intel HDGraphics400 video card jumps in when I disable the GPU within photoshop.
What I have done so far:
1.- Updated to the latest driver for my set up. I went to Toshiba website and latest driver was already active. Version 305.46 dated July 2012
2.- I called Nvidia and tried unsuccesfully to install a newer driver (310.90) because is not compatible with my card, they also suggested to install an older driver 304.709 but the operating system just did not want to update to an older driver
3.- I went to Photoshop and followed instructions and none seemed to work:
3.1. made sure I had latest version of Photoshop CS6 Extended version 13.0.1 x64
3.2.- Set GPU settings to basic
3.3. Reset preferences (Crt+shift+alt) while starting photoshop
3.4. Checked Cache levels to 4
Maybe the biggest and unacceptable issue is that the reported NIvidia cards tested with Photosho CS6 doesnt include the 600 Series. It is quite annoying because all the other series are reported: nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 series

When I open photoshop, the workspace won't appear. It's layers show up on the layer menu, but the image and workspace are no where to be found. Entering full screen mode freezes. If i open photoshop and delete my settings, it fixes everything, but i am getting tired of setting all my settings back up every time i do this.

I have tried signing out of cc and signing back in but no joy.
I recently downloaded Adobe Design and Web Premium CS6. I am not able to see the content of any of the file I open (.psd or .jpg). I do see the file has been opened as the file name appears on the open file tabs, I also see the preview of the file in the Navigator Window and list of layers in the layers window.
I am relatively new to this so might be missing on some option that needs to be turned on or something. I am using Window 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, with 8GB RAM.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen i look at my photos in Ulead Instant Viewer or Breeze Browser Pro they look similar to what they did on the back of my camera.But when i view them in my newly purchased CS6 the saturation is increased by around 25 to 30 units.When i scanned some 35mm colour negatives and viewed them in photoshop they had exactly the same saturation as when viewed in Ulead Instant Viewer and Breeze Browser Pro.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIf I have opened a RAW image in PS5.5 and it has several layers already modifying the file, can I convert the bottom layer to a smart object and then use ACR tools like de-fringing, etc.? I notice flaws in the image that would be corrected that way, and I don't want to start from scratch. I am able to make the layer a smart object. I don't know how to invoke the ACR tools.
This image arrived from Lightroom with "no Lightroom effects" chosen at transfer, if that makes any difference.
