Aug 13, 2012if it is possible to take a camera raw file from lightroom and open it directly in Camera Raw for editing rather than use the editing in LR itself. I thought I read somewhere that it is possible to do this as an automatic setting - when choosing the "edit in Photoshop" menu option a raw file will be opened in Camera Raw and the changes tracked in LR. I prefer the Camera Raw interface in Ps so am hoping I can do this and then proceed on to Ps if I need to do further processing. I am using LR4 and Ps6 on a Mac with the latest updates. I am a recent convert to LR/Ps from Aperture so am still learning.

Nov 9, 2011I have a Canon S100 which is one of the 6 new cameras added to LR. My existing LR would not open the CR2 file. This 3.6 RC opens it but does not list it as one of the canon cameras it profiles. How about the other 5 cameras? I don't have any of them so I can't comment. Only on the S100.

Jan 1, 2013I'm noticing that when I convert a RAW file (NEF for Nikon) in LR4.3 to a JPG, it doesn't contain the number of shutter actuations. For that, I need to use ViewNX. Is there anyway to preserve/extract this bit of EXIF information in Lightroom 4.3?

Apr 27, 2012When shooting RAW, the OM-D records 4:3 files no matter what the aspect ratio is set to. If you set it to 3:2 (for example), the camera records some sort of metadata to communicate this information to Lightroom, which honors the setting. So far, so good.
My question is, is there any way to override that setting? I have a photo shot at 3:2, but I can see from the in-camera preview that it'd be a better shot with the whole thing. But I can't figure out how to get LR 4.1rc2 to show me the whole thing!

Sep 2, 2012I had read that when I convert to DNG in Lightroom (v4), the file sizes will drop by about 20% (I checked the check box for compression). I'm converting from a batch of 16-bit NEFs I created when scanning slides using the Nikon LS-5000 scanner. Those scans and files were created with Nikon Scan 4.0. After doing the conversion in Lightroom, the DNG file sizes are around 3MB-17MB. The original NEF files were about 135MB. Where in the world did all my data go? I'm concerned that the conversion to DNG threw away a ton of the original data. How is that much of a reduction possible? I'm hoping that there wasn't some catastrophic problem during the conversion, as I also checked the check box to delete the originals after the conversion is finished.
The image quality seems to be okay when looking at the DNG files in Lightroom.

Jul 11, 2013I have the trial of LR5 and I trid now to geotag my pictures. To do so, I convert the .gpx file to xmp with geosetter. The XMP are created but when I import them into LR, the GPS position is not imported. But If I embed the GPS info into the raw files (cr2) the position is imported but I'd like to keep the raw file untouched so this is why I use the XMP.
When I try to "update metadata" it's not working.
how can I make lightroom to read the xmp files on import ?

Jan 8, 2014I uploaded some photos from my phone onto my laptop. These seem to have disappeared altogether. They are no longer on my phone, they are not in any of the folders on my laptop (I have checked several times) and they are not in my laptop recycling bin either. Since this happened, I have notcied the appearance of many LRPREV files on my laptop, which I cannot open and I have not seen before. Putting 2 and 2 together, I am inclined to believe that the lost uploaded photos from my phone are the LRPREV files, and that they were somehow, unintentionally converted.
What are LRPREV files, and how do I open them? Alternatively, is there a way to convert them into a file type which I can open? where my uploaded photos may be?

He shows that the Camera Calibration feature has some settings for specific cameras yet the drop down menu has none listed. I've upgraded to 3.6 and the images were copied from raw to DNG.

Jun 16, 2013When I open my Raw Images in Photoshop CS5 Camera Raw, The file size is correct It was shot at 240 ppi.
But when I open the same Image In Photoshop CS6 Camera Raw 8.1, the Image converts to 300 ppi.
Off course I can go ahead and open the file Inside the Photoshop and change the Image size when Resample Image Is checked and change the Resolution to 240 ppi. But I don't want to do that I want the Camera Raw 8.1 to open all my Raw Images AS IS, which is 240 ppi. Default size for Canon 5D.

Nov 30, 2013I bought a Canon 6D last summer and recently decided to shoot in RAW (.CS2). My previous camera was a Canon Rebel t1i, and RAW files from that camera worked without a hitch. When I try to open raw files from the 6D, I get a notice that I need an update.
So I downloaded and installed the update for Camera Raw, and also downloaded and installed the associated DNG converter.

When I try to open an Nikon camera raw file (.NEF), I get the error message, "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." Prior to a hard drive crash, I opened .NEF files using CS3 on my G4 frequently with no problems. I have reinstalled the software twice and tried importing the files from the camera using Bridge all with the same result.

I was not so pleased with the results in PSE ACR and Lightroom so I have decided to try THE SAME RAW file in Capture One Express and Raw Therapy.
I was shocked to discover that the area covered with Capture One Express and Raw Therapy is larger than ACR and Lightroom - to my astonishment it is like having a wider lens - in all four corners of the image there more details and objects that cannot be seen in ACR! - notice a red car on the right side and a blue boat on the left side - it looks like either from a wider lens or like another file!
I have checked both in Photoshop ACR and Lightroom and the Lens Correction option is turned OFF.
