Lightroom :: Add Child Keyword To Image But Exclude Parent

Jan 13, 2014

I'have just imported all my photo's. They are mostly already keyworded but I have a slight problem. They range over the last 50 years so I have ended up with 50 "year" keywords, i.e. 1970, 1971, 1972 etc.

In order to tidy this up I though I'd create a "Year" parent keyword and have all those entries as children to it.

This would work bu how could I have a year keyword but not the parent name "Year" in the keyword list? Or at least not have it there when the image is exported.

Lightroom :: View All Photos Tagged Parent But Not Child At Same Time

Sep 1, 2012

Say I have a keyword "parent" and a nested keyword (subtag) "child" under that keyword. Some photos are tagged with "parent", other are (only) tagged with "child".

Is it now possible to view all photos tagged "parent", but not see the "child" photos at the same time? Either using the keyword list or text filter, I always get to see the "child" photos also...

I know I can exclude certain keywords when searching (ie. "parent !child"), but in my case I'm having about 20 child tags, so it's not very practical to write all 20 keywords as exclusions.

Lightroom :: Find Images With Parent Keyword Tag Only?

Mar 2, 2007

I want a keyword hierarchy with "US" as parent keyword of 50 states name keywords. I have many images with state keywords, but I also have some images that are tagged only with "US" but no state tag, as they are not specific to a state.

How do I *easily* find only the images tagged "US" but with no state tags? Clicking on "US" in the keyword panel shows me all images tagged with "US" and all with state tags, but I just want the ones tagged "US".

I can use "Find" to find "US" images NOT CONTAINING "AL AK AR AS AZ..." by enumerating all 50 states, but that's a terribly awkward way filter out images tagged with state names. I can't see a button or filter that shows only the images with a parent tag but without child tags.

Photoshop :: Parent - Child, Master - Slave

Jul 13, 2007

im photoshop is there any kind of system like this?

for example:

i want to place an adjustment like Hue/Saturation to just one layer. I want to use that little half shaded circle at the bottom of the layers palette (create a new adjusment layer or fill). and i want it to just effect one layer of my project. So is there a way that i could set it up so that the the adjustment layer would be like a parent to the layer i want effected and it wouldnt effect the layers below the child layer?

Now i know i could just put the layer i want to be adjusted at the bottom of the layer list but for this certain layer, it needs to be above a different layer below it.

Maya Animation :: Child Does Not Transform With Parent

Apr 15, 2012

My problem:There is the parent node (Base) and the child nodes (arm1, arm2, ...). When one of the children (arm1) is picked up all the lower parts in the hierarchy (arm2,arm3) moves, rotates... with their parent (arm1). But if Base is selected and rotated, the child nodes will stay where they are.

I tried to set and unset the "inherit transform" box, but this seem to take no effect.Everything behaved well until i added the point constraint, although i did it as told in the tutorial.

3ds Max Animation :: Locking Distance Between Child And Parent?

Apr 5, 2012

I have a chain of spheres linked a linear manner, i.e. sphere10 is linked to sphere09, sphere09 is linked to sphere08,sphere08 is linked to sphere07, ..., such that sphere01 is overall parent.

I am trying to lock the distance between the children and their parent so that when moving them around, they are always the same distance from their parent. Almost like the child is pivoting around the parent's pivot point. However, I can't seem to figure it out.

I can get it to work if I turn Interactive IK on, but I do not want the movement to affect the orientation of the parent.

I think the execution would be relatively easy. how to tell detect if a symbol is within a rectangle vector area. so almost like a parent child relationship in HTML goes? was thinking about getting top bottom left and right of a layer called parent then checking all layers below it (maybe they have "child" naming scene, so i can match by layer name) if the top bottom left and right are >=/<= the one above it. so it is basically detecting if a box is inside another box.

Lightroom :: Search All Parent Folders For Image?

Nov 20, 2013

It seems when I do a search query for an image, the search only searches in the folder that I have selected.

BUT...if I have another folder selected that the image is not in, then the search states there is no image that matches. AND...even if I have the parent folder selected, the search query again replies that there is no image.

Note: this occurs when I have "Show photos in subfolders" selected AND unselected so I don't think this will fix it.

I'd like to be able to truly search my ENTIRE library from just the top parent folder for an image.

Lightroom :: Focus Jumps To Keyword Filter Box When Clicking A Keyword

Aug 17, 2010

Long, long, keyword hierarchy.  Clicking on a keyword takes the focus back up to the keyword filter box.  Usually happens if I've used the filter box to narrow down the keywords that are visible. Continues even after the filter box has been cleared.  Doesn't happen all the time though.  It is a real pain when trying to double click a keyword to edit it as the first click or the double click causes the list to refresh showing only the top entries.  The second click (of the double click) then causes whatever keyword is now under the pointer to be keyword to be edited - NOT the keyword under the pointer when I started the double click.

I've seen this happen in both LR3.0 and LR3.2RC.

Windows XP, 32bit.

Lightroom :: Syncing Keyword Changes To LR3 Catalogs Among Different Users (using A Common Keyword Set)

Jul 5, 2012

I'm new to LightRoom and am glad to have found this great resource. Onto the issue at hand:

An ongoing office project is using LR3 to catalog 30 years' worth of images gathered from various media. Some are scans of slides, negatives, or prints; others are images straight from a digital camera. We have three people working on this cataloging project. The lead guy has created keywords on his computer that he uses to tag these images. Is there any way to make sure the keywords he's using on his machine sync with and are available to the other users of the image catalog? If not, is there a file that would have to be shared among the three users to make that functionality happen?

Lightroom :: 4.4 - Library Filter By Keyword - Unable To Select Keyword

Jan 2, 2014

Lightroom version: 4.4 [891433]
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
Version: 6.1 [7601]
Application architecture: x64
System architecture: x64
Logical processor count: 4
Processor speed: 2.6 GHz
Built-in memory: 6087.8 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 6087.8 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 523.6 MB (8.6%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 551.5 MB
Memory cache size: 1012.7 MB
Maximum thread count used by Camera Raw: 2
System DPI setting: 106 DPI
Desktop composition enabled: No
Displays: 1) 1600x900

If I am in Library module, select filter Metadata, select Keywords from dropdown (no other filter panels selected), and start to scroll down the list of keywords, I can select keywords by mouseclick, and see the matching photos as thumbs in the main window.

However as I scroll further down, I can no longer select keywords - the mouseclick no longer highlights or selects. This happens rather incosnsistently - by which I mean, the point in the eyword list where the select stops working is not always the same place in the keyword list.

If I click several times on the same non-selecting keyword, LR4.4 jumps to taking 50% (exactly) of processor time (shown in task manager) , and the memory usage climbs steadily until all free RAM is consumed.

This is a small (~8000 image) catalogue, with ~2500 keywords, entirely non-hierarchical.

The catalogue is set to optimise on backup, weekly.

I've tried deleting and recreating the preferences file btw to no avail

Lightroom :: How To Auto Set Keyword When Exporting Image

Nov 24, 2011

I like to keep track of what I've exported and uploaded to Flickr and other sites and what I've sent out to people. It seems tagging my images with some appropriate keyword is the best way to do this. Such keywords as "Flickr" or "Facebook", etc. But I the only way I can do this is to remember to manually apply each such keyword when I do the export. It would seem to me to be wonderfully simply if I could, in the export form, do something like "Add keywords:" and list keywords that would be added to each image exported through that form.

Is there another way to track such usage other than with keywords?

Lightroom :: Keyword Tags Missing On 49,000 Image Files

Jun 29, 2013

Recently had my motherboard replaced under warranty and had to reinstall all programs. Had previously synched all my image files (and LR catalog files) to a separate hard drive using MemeoSync.

When I reinstalled and opened LR4.4 I found that the only folder showing was the synched drive (I:) whereas it should have been the C: drive. All synched images on the I: drive were correctly tagged but the original images on the C: drive had no keywords. I understand I can move all the files from the I: drive to the C: drive but there is another mystery I cannot solve.

I take all photos as RAW & jpeg. The files on the I: drive show the RAW files and the separate (but related) jpeg files. On the C: drive they are shown as <filename>.CR2+JPEG and I can't seem to separate them. I have tried ticking the box 'Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate files" without success.

So my question is, if I move all 49,000 files from one drive to the other, will the moved files retain the keyword tags AND the separated RAW/JPEG files? Also, must I delete all files from the C: drive before I move the replicated files from the I: drive? If this is successful I will then want to remove the I: folder in LR and just have the C: folder showing.

Lightroom :: Freezes On Keyword Changes / Will Not Refresh - Change Keywords With Newly Selected Image

Oct 4, 2013

I am running windows 7 64 bit. LR 4 worked fine. LR5 has the following (main) issues/bugs: Crashes when help - about system  is clicked.

Freezes on keyword changes and will not refresh or change keywords with newly selected image. Sometimes fixes with waiting a long time, sometimes only with restart of the program or optimization of database.Does not allow files to be rotated in full view, only in grid view.

With the upgrade to 5.2 I hoped the above would be corrected. They have not, and now, as an added 'feature' I also have:During the same session, a previously exported image is re-exported with a new export in place of one or more of the newer exports. This happens despite the filmstrip or grid view      being in sync on choices and when I am certain that previously exported image is not selected in the current export.

Further, the program does seem quite sluggish at times, though I have the program and database on seperate drives. I am thinking or will change over to working in previews to resolve that issue, meanwhile, the other issues are still in play.

Illustrator :: How To Exclude Transparent Areas In Image Trace

May 9, 2012

I have a logo file, saved as PNG, that is black on transparent.  Very simple file, just stylized black lettering on a transparent background. In Illustrator CS5, I can place that file, do a "Live Trace" in "Lettering" mode, and Illustrator will correctly ignore the transparent areas when I expand the trace.  After expanding, I'm left with scalable paths and an easy way to change the fill color to have the logo work with my background.

Fast forward to Illustrator CS6.  I try to do the same thing but a) there is no "lettering" preset for Image Trace and b) there is no setting I have yet found to cause Illustrator to ignore the transparent areas when I expand.  If I then fill, everything inside the bounds of the placed image (the square containing the logo) is filled with that color.  The only way I've found to get similar results is to go through the layers panel after the Expand and deselect each piece of the image that should not be filled.  I have a hard time believing this is the desired approach.

I'm talking about importing some hundreds of photos so it's not possible to uncheck them manually. I think there has to be a way to filter the import by certain file extensions or at least sort by file extensions. Sorting by media type does not fix my problem.

Lightroom :: Keyword Tags - Why Can't Add Keyword Tags To Multiple Photos

Sep 2, 2013

I have used multiple versions of Lightroom (2, 3, 4, and now 5).  Why can't I add keyword tags to multiple photos?  I know that it can be done while importing, but I usually import a whole day's worth of pictures at one time and they don't require all the same keyword tags. The ones that are common I do add during import.  I used to be able to highlight the photos I wanted to add tags to, go to the metadata and find find the list of keywords applied to those photos.  Tags that were not common to all photos has an * beside them.  If I wished to have one of these tags for all the selected photos I just removed the *, otherwise I added the new tag to the list.

Lightroom :: 5 - EXCLUDE Particular Folders / Files From Being Included In Catalog?

How can I EXCLUDE particular folders/files from being included in the Lightroom 5 catalog?

I want to be able to specify paths and/or filename patterns that should NEVER be indexed in the catalog: not that they don't show up under certain circumstances, just that they are NOT THERE (in the catalog) to begin with!!

I also do NOT want to have to respecify these criteria when "synching" the catalog; criteria should be PERMANENT (or at least 'til they're changed in LR preferences).

Lightroom :: How To Turn Off Parent Keywords When Importing To LR4

Sometimes I assign keywords for DNG files in Adobe Bridge CS5. Then I import into LR to do some color correction. Then I would export as JPG for the client. In LR2, the keywords would show up fine. For example, if I used "Caucasian" it would just show up in LR2 as "Caucasian". Now, in LR4, when I import (and export), I get Caucasian > Ethnic.
