Lightroom :: 5 Targeted Adjustment Tool Not Working?

Jun 19, 2013

LR 5.0 with ACR 8.1
Macbook Pro w/Retina (mid-2012)
OS X 10.8.4
2.7GHz Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM

In HSL, the Targeted Adjustment Tool (TAT) works only intermittently.  Sometimes it does not move the sliders at all, sometimes only a little, sometimes it works normally.  Problem persists even after LR restart and exists both with Apple Magic Mouse and Wacom Pen/Tablet as input devices.

This was an issue with some RCs from previous versions.

Lightroom :: Unable To Use Eyedropper And Targeted Adjustment Tools

Jul 13, 2010

When trying to use the eyedropper or targeted adjustment tools (in the HSL menu), I will grab the tool and hover over my photo and my cursor changes to the magnifying glass. When using the eyedropper the preview will reflect the white balance but when I click my photo is enlarged instead of using the tool. I know there must be a simple answer, I am just a first time user of Lightroom (previously used Bridge/Camera RAW) and am getting very frustrated.

Lightroom :: Adjustment Brush Not Working - 4.1

Jul 17, 2012

When I try to use the adjustment brush by selecting the brush, the sliders shown for the brush change the complete photograph, which I do not want it to do. When I use the brush it makes changes. But, if I make a slider change that I want for the brush it actually changes the complete photograph. It  has worked properly in the past. I was able to make a slider change and it would only make changes to the area the brush selected.

Lightroom :: Adjustment Brush Quit Working In LR 5?

Lightroom :: 4.2 Adjustment Brushes Aren't Working?

Oct 24, 2012

When I go to use my adjustment brushes, I would select the one I wanted to use and then go try to use it.  As soon as I first let go of my mouse, the brush would change to custom.  Since updating to 4.2, that has stopped switching, but my brushes still don't work. I have tried multiple brushes and it's all of them, not just one particular one.  I have tried restoring my presets, that didn't work. I have tried deleting all of the presets from the folder, restarting Lightroom and re-importing them, that didn't work. I updated Lightroom, that didn't work.  I have restarted my computer and that didn't work.  The thing is, is that they HAVE worked before.  I was switching between some catalogs and once I was done with that, they stopped working.  So I'm not sure if I did something while switching between catalogs or not.  I use these brushes all the time and they are a significant part of my workflow!

Lightroom :: New To Adjustment Brush Tool

Aug 8, 2012

I am fairly new to Lightroom, and the Adjustment Brush tool specifically, and I am having some problems with it!  I have watched tons of tutorials on using it, and it seems relatively easy...although when I go into my program and attempt to use it, nothing happens to my photo...say if I wanted to adjust the exposure on the face of an individual, I will go in and select the tool, decrease the exposure, make the brush and feather the size I want it, and when I go to "paint" the area I want altered, nothing happens?  The pins appear as if to show me that's where I started, but then no change happens to the area I attempted to paint.  Do I need to select something somewhere to be able to actually use the brush to paint?

Lightroom :: Edit Copy With Adjustment Suddenly Stopped Working

Feb 4, 2013

I have been using lightroom 3.4 and photoshop CS6 for sometime. However suddenly I cant move images from lightroom to photoshop (Ctrl+E) with the "Edit a copy with lightroom adjustment".

When I click this option, it opens the Photoshop. But doesnt open the image. However the other two options "edit a copy" and "Edit original" works fine.

Also when i add photoshop again as another external editor, it works fine. But as you all are aware this create another copy of the image.

What I did I checked the applications path for photoshop and it was correct. I uninstalled lightroom and reinstalled.

Lightroom :: 4.1RC2 - Adjustment Brush Stopped Working Mid Session

May 19, 2012

This is pretty weird. Brand new .lrcat, working through a few family pictures. The first few photos, the adjustment brush was working. A few minutes into it, it stopped working, or at least stopped having nearly as substantial an effect. If I push exposure by +4, it looks as if it's pushing it by .4. Same with other sliders - they are barely applied.

Did I hit some button that globally diminishes the brush strength or something?

Note that, in the second image, the adjustment brush is centered on his head. It's a little different than the first image, but certainly not to the extent one would expect from the sliders pushed to their extremes.

Just for a point of trivia, I installed QuickTime while working in LR. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but restarting LR and creating a new catalog did not remedy the problem.

Lightroom :: 4.3 Crashes Frequently When Using Adjustment Tool

Dec 14, 2012

I updated to LR 4.3, ACR 7.3, and CS6 11.0.3 yesterday even though I'm not on a Retina MBP.

Anyway, last night I was doing some edits. Opened LR catalog, edited a RAW in PS, saved the PSD which kicked back to LR. Did some final touch up using the Soften Skin adjustment tool and when I clicked on an area of the photo to make the brush stroke, LR would crash. It did it several times in a row and I finally got it to stop by clicking on the brush tool, clicking done, then reclicking the brush tool. I have LR automatically sending bug reports on crashes.

Lightroom :: Brush Tool Exposure Adjustment Inadequate

Oct 28, 2013

I'm still using Lightroom 3.

I'm trying to fix the exposure on the TV screen using the brush tool, and it's not doing the job at all. Even with multiple overlays of adjustments it's not changing the exposure nearly enough, and you really can't see the game at all. The white areas of the image on the screen are remaining that way and the rest is just slightly darker and becoming less saturated as well.

I thought maybe LR was just not up to such a radical adjustment and that I need to use Photoshop (which I don't own), but then I tried changing the exposure on the whole photo, and taking it down to zero made an enormous difference on the TV screen, which turned out at the correct exposure, well saturated, with only a little loss of data. This tells me that the data is there in the image--so why can't I get it locally with the brush tool?

After that I tried leaving the whole image underexposed and then using the brush tool to increase the exposure everywhere but the TV screen, but it stayed pretty dark.

Lightroom :: Specify Begin And End Exposure Adjustment On Gradient Tool?

Nov 10, 2011

Is there a way to specify the begin and end exposure adjustment on the gradient tool?

What I really want to do is apply an even exposure adjustment to the bottom section of an image. There's a hard line where I want the adjustment to begin, so I don't really need a gradient. I know I can do this with the adjustment, but that requires passing the brush over a large section of the image and, of course, being very careful in lining the edge of the brush up with the edge of what I want to lighten. I'd like to be able to put a line across the image and say "lighten everything below this line" by x amount.

Lightroom :: 3.2 - Local Adjustment Brush And Heal / Clone Tool Broken

Sep 1, 2010

After installing LR 3.2, the first thing I noticed is that it is much slower than the previous version (using XP Pro + 3GB memory and a speedy processor).

But the most terrible novelty of this version is that the Adjustment Brush is going berserk after a while:

It first slows down to a crawl, so slow that it's almost impossible to work with. While working with it after a while, it starts to show random rectangular areas that are copies of other areas of the image that have nothing to do with the area I'm working on. This happens after a brush stroke. The Undo command makes these rectangular "patches" disappear. From time to time, the whole image is flipped upside down (You can't believe it? Neither could I) eventually, after a brush stroke, the sandclock mouse cursor is displayed and the program freezes (at this time it can be using over 1 GB of memory although I'm working on a single, standard EOS 5D image). The only way to stop this madness is to kill the process. The Heal/Clone tool also shows a similar misbehavior. I didn't have these problems with the previous version.

Lightroom :: Gradient Tool Is Not Working In LR4.2?

Sep 1, 2013

I am using a Windows 7, 64-bit Pro desktop pc.

Even though I select the gradient tab, have the central circle highlighted (black dot showing) and have the three lines showing; when I attempt to adjust levels within the selected zone, the whole picture changes. Depending on image gradient area is either one third to half, horizontally, sky or foreground.

I have tried it on other images, restarting Lightroom and rebooting PC, nothing seems to change it.

I also have it installed on my laptop, running 64-bit Home and it works fine.

Did a photographic course yesterday and my images could be manipulated whether on their pc or my laptop. Brought them back home and no go on the desktop again?

Lightroom :: Sharpening Tool Is Not Working In Library Mode Or Export 4.4

Jan 27, 2014

I was editing phots when I suddenly realized that sharpening tool, neither the adjustment brush for sharpening or ordinary sharpening, would be shown in Library mode or when photos were exported. When I see the picture in Develop mode, they seem fine and I can adjust the sharpness as usual. So something goes wrong between Develop and Library mode.

I have Lightroom 4.4. The ISO level in the pictures are not high at all, so that is not the problem, as I have read some explanaitions of. When I see the picture in 1:1 in both modes, they look the same after sharpening. But if I zoom more, I can definately see big differences.

Photoshop :: Why Would Adjustment Layers Stop Working

Mar 9, 2013

I was retouching a painting earlier and i could not get every detail because my adjustment layers stopped allowing me to paint on the mask.

I switched from ps v13 and v12 and niether would allow me to paint on the mask. All of the correction i did were on adjustment layers. I would add an adjustment layer and tweak it then invert the mask and then paint with the brush. Then i would merge layers. After about 4 merges it stop allowing the painting on the mask.

Photoshop :: Adjustment Layers Not Working In Actions CC?

Nov 16, 2013

I am attempting to use the actions panel to edit a large number of product shots quickly. I have disabled the generator, which was a possible solution I saw in another post, closed my photoshop, opened it up again and tried it on a new file.

None of my adjustment layers do what I set them out to do, but they do show up as layers in my layers panel. The only part of the action that works is my smart sharpen. I created the actions in CC and I don't know where to go next.

Paint Shop Pro :: Crop Tool Box Adjustment?

Nov 11, 2011

PSP is and has always been THE best graphics app with a truly intuitive interface and useful set of features & tools.

I have been using it for many, many years... sniffed around other products, but always returned, fully satisfied with what I can achieve. I've also written a suite of scripts to further enhance my use of it alongside my photography hobby.

HOWEVER... since Corel took it over and the start of the X series, there has been a serious and very annoying omission concerning the Crop tool. Previous versions up to v9 allowed the user to grab hold of the edges of the crop box ANYWHERE along ANY side, and drag/extend/reduce the size of the box. This allowed us photographers to zoom in to pixel level and grab any part of the visible box to adjust the crop dimensions very accurately. This is a very important feature for photographers.

The new X interface has changed the crop box to 'vector node handles' only for adjustment, which are not always visible when zoomed in. This means that instead of being able to align the box accurately to an image feature or row of pixels, you have to zoom out until you can find the nearest handle to use, or scroll up/down left/right, which either takes you away from the area you want to work on, or zoom too far out to see the detail you want for alignment.

option/preference to ditch the vector handles and grab the sides as before. I know you may think it a backward step, but you've taken away the very function that photographers need for cropping a composition, which is available in other products.
