I have just returned froma trip where I processed images on Lightroom 5 on my laptop. I now want to move the collections to my main library on another drive and computer that uses Lightroom 4. What would be the best way to do this and will I need to upgrade the Lightroom 4 to 5?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am ruhnning Windows &7 Pro, 64 bit and I'm experiencing inconsistent behavior in Lightroom 3.5 with regard to moving images within collections. When I try to move an image, to place it in the order in which I would like view the sequence, the image is placed at the end of the sequence no matter where I place it initially. I've tried the filmstrip view and the grid view and it happens in both. I recall doing this without problems previously however it was in the imported Library not a collection, but why would this be different?? One still needs to reorder images in collections. I've made certian to change the "sort" option to user each time I've tried to do this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using LR for adjusting photos for about 6-8 years now, but have just recently gotten time to start better organizing my stuff. I have about 40,000 images that mostly have keywords and descriptive file names, but are generally without ratings, color labels and are mostly not in collections. I must admit that there's a lot of junk in there (duplicates, mostly) that I have to purge. I can probably work it down to 10,000 images. In addition to putting ratings and labels on things, I want to sort them into collections, but that task would be easier if I knew which images were NOT in collections so I could concentrate on them and work that set down. I don't see a way to set up smart collections to show images that are not in a collection. It appears that the smart collection criteria can be selected from whatever text selection criteria are available, and I don't see inclusion in a collection as one of them. I also don't see collection status as one of the metadata items that could be used to filter things.
In a previous thread from 2007 I found the following workaround:
Clear the quick collection and set it to the target collection.In the library view, select all the collections. Select all the photos.Go to the catalog and view all photos.In the Edit menu, click on "invert selection".That selects all the images not in a collection. Pressing B puts them in the quick collection.
The only problem with this is that when you select an image from the quick collection and place it in a collection the image remains in the quick collection. In a smart collection filtered by collection status (not in a collection) it would disappear from the smart collection when it goes into a collection. So it would be much nicer if there were a way to filter for "not in a collection" for a smart collection or even in a metadata filter.
The above workaround does work, but you will have to refresh the quick collection whenever you lose track of which images you have placed into a collection.
Of course, the best solution would be not to get into my position in the first place. Always dump the junk out of the catalog and place all the keepers in appropriate collections.
I am playing for the first time with rejected flag. Before I used the red flag and then deleted manually bad picture. I notived the following:
- Put some picture in a Collection. Let's say you did a reportage and you shooed 250 pictures (my case yesterday).
- Inside the collection set rejected flag (X key) the bad pictures (unsharp, etc..).
- Click on one rejected picture (you see the reject flag enable) and then to in Library
- The rejected flag is gone!
I would rather keep every flag the same anywhere (collections, library...).
By the way, I wish as well to be able to deleted the rejected photo directly from the Collections in the menu "Photos -> Delete Rejected Photo...". "Delete Rejected Photo" can only "Remove". At least the menu name is missunderstanding.
How do I search for a collection name using the library filter? Or through a different search tool? I am hoping that I can just type in the collection name to have it be brought up or highlighted for easy access.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have smart collections simply gathering together all images with a specific star rating, very very simple! I have one for 1 star, one for 2 star and one for 3 star and above. So far so good, have been using these for ages - but - I have just noticed if I go to Catalog/All Photographs and place an identical Library Filter (that is the filter at the top of the library grid view) I get different results. In fact if I place an attribute filter that says "= 2 star" images only I can look at the strip that runs across the bottom of the screen and it says "All Photographs / 1056 of 1647 photos". If I then clear that filter and scroll down to my smart collection that applies the very same filter to the entire catalog (and I have triple checked this, no difference at all, I haven't said less than or greater to in here its the self same "=" only!) and it says "1066"! So the smart collection finds 10 more images than the other, identical filters working on the entire catalog If it wasn't for the number of images involved I would go though them and try and find the extra files by hand!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have LR5 on my PC, with my 400GB NIKON RAW images on an external USB disk (NTFS). Library is on the PC. I shall now move the RAW images, with the edits, to my LR5 installation on a MAC Book Pro, with the images storred on an external thunderbolt MAC formatted disk.
I wonder what is the procedure for doing this, so i get the edits i have done, moved also to the MAC?
I guess i can export the library to the PC external disk, and then connect both the PC USB and the MAC thunderbolt disk to the MAC, and then just do a copy of the images. But how is the library going to get the knowledge of the images now storred on the MAC disk?
I'm using nested Collection Sets and Collections in LR 3.4 to manage image selections for a large book project. I'd like to create web galleries from groups of images (a Collection Set) to share with others working on the project.
Is there a way to have LR sort the images in a Collection Set (all lower level sets and collections) by the collection and/or set name? When I display the top level Collection Set all the images show up sorted by file name. I can change that to any of the sort options under View | Sort but none of those are at all useful.
Here's the tree structure of part of the Collection Set (these are all Latin plant names):

Am I missing something in how Collections work? Is there a way to sort within a Collection Set as I need to?
I'm planning to upgrade my Windows system from a 6-year old XP box to a new Windows 7 system. Moving my entire digital photo archive and Lightroom (3.4) catalog will be part of the process. I need a faster system and desperately want to get active, but older, image files onto a fast internal hard drive. My catalog currently has about 110,230 images in it.
Before I begin the transfer I'd like any tips to make the process go as smoothly as possible.Here's the current setup (I license my images as stock from my office so everything is in one LR catalog):
2003-2006 photos on an external Networked Attached Storage (NAS) box
2007-2008 photos on an internal hard drive (#1)
2009-2011 photos an an internal hard drive (#2)
Scanned slides on internal hard drive (#1)
Physical and LR folder structures for all of the above are similar, starting with a top-level "Camera 20xx" and then subfolders for major image categories, e.g. flowers, forests, portraits.

After I reinstall LR on my new computer and copy the .lrcat file over, will I simply be able to point LR to one image for each year and it will be able to find all the rest of the photos in that year's folder structure? Or is it going to be more complicated than that to re-synchronize Lightroom with the new folder locations?
I have a smart collection with the only criteria "Is greater than or equal to" 5 stars having changed from "is" 5 stars. I'm gettin 4 copies of each image.
When I go to folder view and all photos I have only one copy each.
How can I make this not-so-smart collection smart?
I'd like to create a smart collection of images that have been printed. Is there any way to do this? If not, is there a way to search for images that have been printed?
Separately, one my smart collections screens by edit date so that I can find out what I have worked on recently. However, it also picks up everything I shot and imported recently, even if I haven't edited the images. Is there any way to filter these out?
I'm using LR 5.3 for Windows.
I prepared a rough draft of a book and saved it with the tab on the right hand top of the main screen. Unfortunately, I saved it with the option of only saving the used images from the original collection. Later I brought up the draft book and tried to add some additional images, but see that only the images already used in the book are available on the image strip at the bottom. I need to get other images which are in the original collection. Is there any way to do this? If not, is there a way to save the entire format of the book and then start over with the same format but with the original full collection as the source of images in the bottom strip?

The problem is that when I did this only my currently selected images in the film strip were included in the book collection (files starred 2 and above) and I cant work out how to make all f the files in my route folder (unstarred, etc) appear in the collection.
I had been building the book from a folder on my E drive, not a collection.
I created a collection called, "favorites." The catalog indicates there are 48 images in that collection; however, the images do not show up. (This seems to be different from the "missing" problem - I understand how that can happen...) don't know where to look and don't know if I have lost those images somehow? I have approximately 25 other collections, all of which seem fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems selecting images in the library module when multiple images are in view (not down in the timeline, but in the main window). It seems sporadic with which ones it won't let me select, it somehow manages to be the ones that I need to click....!! I just literally can't click it as if it were an image I already imported or something, but it's not grayed out like that. I've been having to select a nearby image then use my arrow keys to navigate to and click the image I need.

I have digitized my 50 years of slides. They are in large folders on the computer. Each folder is labelled only with a time period. Each image was corrected via MS Photo Gallery and then tagged or labelled with who or what, where and when.
How can I best send them out to the children to view on their computers but with a way for them to select and view only the ones they are interested in out of the thousands. Like " Diana" or "Grand Canyon 2010". We are 75 and not very computer literate yet. Is there a way for moving all my open palettes with the Photoshop main window from one screen to another in a single go? It seems a bit awkward that when moving my Photoshop window from screen 1 to screen 2 I have to move every single palette one at a time? And if i save a custom work space and load it when my Photoshop is on my second screen it still places the palettes as they were saved on screen 1 instead of relative to where my Photoshop window is placed.

I am using NextGEN to export images to WordPress. NextGEN created Publishing collections in Lightroom to match those in my WordPress blog. My problem is that they are not Smart Collections.
I am using Lightroom 5.2 and only gray squares appear in the Library mode. How can I get my images to appear ? A couple of additional details are:
I have my images stored on external portable HD drives.
I have been successful using this set-up on a previous installlation of Lightroom 5.0.
When I used LR3.6 The Library option listed all my files on the left hand side under 'Folder' and showed a sub-folder for each year 2009-2012. I have now upgraded to LR4, and all I can see is 2011. During the install process of LR$ it asked me if I wanted to upgrade the process model, which I said yes and it did. Then, because I had read that 4.1 fixed a lot of issues, I downloaded and installed RC4.1 which I am running now.
How do I make LR4 show me all my Folders? I don't think I should be re-importing them all.
I have a folder with no images in it that were there. I right click and synchronize the folder and grayed out images appear. Mousing over an image produces a message that says this image is alread in library. How do I recover to see images?
