View 2 Replies View RelatedSince starting to use LR in 2009, I've been making separate catalogues for every 6 months worth of photos. I've now decided to consolidate all my photos in a single catalog, but the process is taking forever, even though I'm not moving the photos, just importing edits/previews/ratings/collection etc.. How to speed things up.BTW, all of my catalogs have been converted to LR4 format.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
If I create a brand spanking new catalog of lets say images from 2011, can i somehow import the collections created in another catalog for these same images into this new catalog?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI imported a catalog from my laptop into a catalog that I have on an external hard drive. This has now resulted in two images of the external drive under the folder list in the Library view.
You can see there are two folders called Oxford (which is my external drive). The first contains the images from the catalog that was originally on the external hard drive. The second one contains all the imported photos.
The directories under Oxford are correctly visible when I browse to them on the computer.
longtime lightroom user mac 10.7.5 upgraded to 4.4 and now cannot import to designated catalog on external 4TB drive with good permissions on the drive and folders.am able to import to other drives, but not the one I mentioned?

I am not able to see the photos that were previously in my collection sets. I see the blank images and the editing icons but no actual images, The photos are in the catalog. How can I relink them to my catalog?
In Lightroom 4, I would like to copy a catalog from machine 1 to machine 2, and while someone else is working on machine 1, I would like to create a collection on machine 2, and then just move that collection back onto machine 1's original catalog. The user on machine 1 is also making collections, so if I just copied the catalog back from machine 2 when I was done, it would destroy the new collections on machine 1, so I think I want to just move the collection I create on machine 2.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm sure this worked in earlier versions of LR (?), but it's been a while since I've required doing this. However last night I needed to export a Collection Set housing several Collections as a single Catlog to an external HD. The options I chose were to export the negative files and available previews.
I seemed to recall that if you Right-Clicked on the Collection Set name there used to be an option "Export Collection as a Catalog", but this option seems only available on Collections not Collection Sets.
Never-the-less I selected the Collection Set, then chose Export as Catalog from the file menu; This worked but only the first 4 collections within the collection set were exported. I repeated this again with the same response. So is this a bug?
I know I could export each Collection as an individual catalogs then combine them but the Collection Set houses 13 sub collections, so rather laborius.
Is it possibile to import a collection from a catalog to another ? My main catalog is at home with all the pictures stored on NAS; when I'm abroad often I start to organize the travel pictures in a "temp/local" catalog on notebook. The Import Photos from catalog is fine to import the pictures with their develop setting, but I would like also to import the collection, expecially the custom user sort order I did in the collection (so I think the Export collection as Catalog is not useful).

Can i set up a Smart Collection to do this?
I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?
I want to introduce this into my workflow if possible
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using nested Collection Sets and Collections in LR 3.4 to manage image selections for a large book project. I'd like to create web galleries from groups of images (a Collection Set) to share with others working on the project.
Is there a way to have LR sort the images in a Collection Set (all lower level sets and collections) by the collection and/or set name? When I display the top level Collection Set all the images show up sorted by file name. I can change that to any of the sort options under View | Sort but none of those are at all useful.
Here's the tree structure of part of the Collection Set (these are all Latin plant names):
Rosaceae [collection set]
|
--- Rubus [collection set]
| |
| --- Rubus arcticus [collection]
| --- Rubus armeniacus [collection]
| --- Rubus chamaemorus [collection]
| --- Rubus idaeus [collection]
| --- etc.
--- Sorbus [collection set]
|
--- Sorbus acuparia [colleciton]
--- Sorbus scopulina [collection]
--- Sorbus sitchensis [collection]
I'd like to sort all the Rubus images together, in named sequence by Collection, and then within each Collection sorted by file name. Then all the Sorbus, etc.
Am I missing something in how Collections work? Is there a way to sort within a Collection Set as I need to?
Having just watched Julieanne K's tutorial re making a Blurb book, she began with her images in a story order. How does one move images within a collection to an order different from how they were uploaded or taken? I guess it is simple, but I cannot seem to do it.

How can I make this not-so-smart collection smart?
I'd like to create a smart collection of images that have been printed. Is there any way to do this? If not, is there a way to search for images that have been printed?
Separately, one my smart collections screens by edit date so that I can find out what I have worked on recently. However, it also picks up everything I shot and imported recently, even if I haven't edited the images. Is there any way to filter these out?
I'm using LR 5.3 for Windows.
I prepared a rough draft of a book and saved it with the tab on the right hand top of the main screen. Unfortunately, I saved it with the option of only saving the used images from the original collection. Later I brought up the draft book and tried to add some additional images, but see that only the images already used in the book are available on the image strip at the bottom. I need to get other images which are in the original collection. Is there any way to do this? If not, is there a way to save the entire format of the book and then start over with the same format but with the original full collection as the source of images in the bottom strip?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am producing a book via lightrom. Just about completed it and hit save. The problem is that when I did this only my currently selected images in the film strip were included in the book collection (files starred 2 and above) and I cant work out how to make all f the files in my route folder (unstarred, etc) appear in the collection.
I had been building the book from a folder on my E drive, not a collection.
I created a collection called, "favorites." The catalog indicates there are 48 images in that collection; however, the images do not show up. (This seems to be different from the "missing" problem - I understand how that can happen...) don't know where to look and don't know if I have lost those images somehow? I have approximately 25 other collections, all of which seem fine.

I have digitized my 50 years of slides. They are in large folders on the computer. Each folder is labelled only with a time period. Each image was corrected via MS Photo Gallery and then tagged or labelled with who or what, where and when.
How can I best send them out to the children to view on their computers but with a way for them to select and view only the ones they are interested in out of the thousands. Like " Diana" or "Grand Canyon 2010". We are 75 and not very computer literate yet. We have done this once now and want to take the next step to make it a user friendly resource for our kids and grandchildren
Have just installed Windows LR4 trial, told it to Import files from my photo collection in a folder + subfolders on a network attached storage (NAS) unit. Windows Explorer tells me that there are 10,308 files in 408 folders in the main folder, totalling 38.8gb but on scanning the folder prior to import LR4 tells me that there are only 9,612 photos.
My photo collection folder contains only photos and no other file types.
Why is there this discrepancy ? I've searched around to see whether there is some hidden filter that is excluding certain photo files but cannot find anything of that nature.
Is it possible to create a smart collection with a rule allowing only images with a minimum resolution?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have some RAW images stored on a network drive, and I was working on them with my laptop. After completing the album, I removed the photos from the catalog on my laptop, so Lightroom wouldn't be so slow when I didn't have access to the network drive. This was short-sighted becuase I need access to those edits again, and I am wondering if I can re-import into the Lightroom catalog on my laptop and recover the edits.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter trying LR4 beta for about a month as a LR3 heavy user, my conclusion is there are features worth the upgrade, BUT I prefer the earlier Process Version and Basic Develop panel to the new one. I understand that I may choose not to upgrade the Process Version on photos in my present catalog as I import the catalog into LR4, thereby causing LR4 to look like LR3 for those preexisting photos. However, I'm unclear as to whether there is a way to configure LR4 so that it will import all new photos using PV2010, thereby continuing to develop them using the LR3 Basic panel and other develop controls. Does this option exist?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop with all my photos and my main LR catalog. Occasionally I want to make changes to some of my folders on my laptop (e.g. time in airplane etc). The following procedure has worked for years, but alas (and I suspect the recent LR upgrade to 4.4) the last step no longer works.
Create catalog for these folders and copy folders with photos + their catalog to laptop.Make changes.Write a new catalog (call it "laptop-catalog.lrcat") on the laptop for the folder(s) changed. ("Export as a catalog")
Back on my desktop"import from another catalog" and find "laptop-catalog.lrcat" and select it.
I no longer can choose the option "Changed Existing Photos" and then "replace metadata and develop setting only" i.e my main catalog on the destop DOES NOT recognize the photos in the laptop catalog even though they're still there in the original desktop catalog. If I import the photos with "Add new photos to catalog without moving" and then "find the photos" it tells me they're duplicates and can't merge.
