Lightroom :: Smart Collection Returns Different Result To Library Filter?

Oct 18, 2012

I have smart collections simply gathering together all images with a specific star rating, very very simple! I have one for 1 star, one for 2 star and one for 3 star and above. So far so good, have been using these for ages - but - I have just noticed if I go to Catalog/All Photographs and place an identical Library Filter (that is the filter at the top of the library grid view) I get different results. In fact if I place an attribute filter that says "= 2 star" images only I can look at the strip that runs across the bottom of the screen and it says "All Photographs / 1056 of 1647 photos". If I then clear that filter and scroll down to my smart collection that applies the very same filter to the entire catalog (and I have triple checked this, no difference at all, I haven't said less than or greater to in here its the self same "=" only!) and it says "1066"! So the smart collection finds 10 more images than the other, identical filters working on the entire catalog If it wasn't for the number of images involved I would go though them and try and find the extra files by hand!

Lightroom :: Library Filter Returns Images Of The Wrong Date?

Mar 1, 2013

I have just moved from v3.6 to v4.3. When using the library window, grid view, I use the filter bu selecting a specific date but images are being returned incorrectly. For example: When I select a date i.e. 25/05/2011, I have images being shown for that date but also others with a capture date of 06/02/2012. How can this issue be corrected?  I have over 60,000 images to review.

Lightroom :: Smart Collection - Can Source Be Named Collection Set?

Jun 25, 2013

If I specify a smart collection rule that says the source must be a collection matching some pattern, does this only apply to actual collections and exclude collection sets?

I was hoping fo a way to build a rule based on the collection set ... is this possible?

I also tried matching Any Searchable Text set to the collection set name, but that doesn't seem to work...wouldn't all photos in the collection set be associated with that string? Looks like no.
There used to be a way I thought that you could submit a new thread after doing a question search. That seems to be gone.

Lightroom :: 5 - Smart Collection / Treatment Is B&W

Aug 7, 2013

I have a Smart Collection with one of the parameters being "Treatment - is - black and white". It works fine but not when I have "Lightroom B&W presets - B&W Look 5" applied. When I apply this preset the image does not "get pulled" into the Smart Collection. It works fine with the other B&W presets. And when an image is in the Smart Collection - by applying one of the other B&W presets - and then apply B&W Look 5 the image disappears from the Collection. Win 7 64-bit - Lr5 (not 5.2).

Lightroom :: 4 - Smart Collection Not Updated

Apr 18, 2012

I just created a smart collection to take images from a shoot, all of which have a keyword something like
20120403 Sample shoot name
and give me all images from this shoot with 4 or 5 stars. I defined the smart collection with keyword-starting-with that string and rating at least 4. I got all but two of the images. I looked and there was no bug - two images were missing the keyword. When I corrected this, in LR 3 I was accustomed to the dynamic collection's immediate update. However, now in LR 4 (Win 7), the collection didn't update. I tried switching views in Library, such as to the shoot itself, but the collection didn't update. I closed LR and reopened it, and the collection was now updated with all images that should be in it. This appears to be a bug to me.

Lightroom :: Organizing A Smart Collection

I have created a smart collection of my photos from various folders in preparation for sending to Blurb Booksmart for an annual retropective.  All photos are virtual copies and have metadata and exif data.  Is there a simple way to arrange the virtual photos in the smart collection for export strictly by date of capture - oldest to most recent - even though they physically live in different folders?  What I would like is an "Arrange By Date" option but have not been able to find such.

Lightroom :: Can't Make Smart Collection Using Keywords

Nov 3, 2013

Separately, one my smart collections screens by edit date so that I can find out what I have worked on recently.  However, it also picks up everything I shot and imported recently, even if I haven't edited the images.  Is there any way to filter these out?

Lightroom :: How To Specify Time Of Day As Smart Collection Criteria

This seems like an unlikely omission but I cannot find it in the criteria list.  "Date" only appears to deal with date, and that is where I would expect to find a capture time criteria.  I have a need to separate two events in one day by their time of occurrence (E.g. before/after  2pm).

Lightroom :: Smart Collection Had Adjustments Not Working In 4.3?

Mar 27, 2013

In LR 3.4 I had no problem applying this smart collection onto a specific folder from the library by simply selecting the collection and then pression CTRL (on windows) while I click the folder in question .. that would filter all those photos that I've edited in LR for that folder.
That isn't the case in LR 4.3.
Right now this smart collection is saying I've got 8683 such photos in the collection, and trying the above method to filter just those edited in a specific folder in the library, simply shows all 8683 photos from my entire library.

Lightroom :: Smart Collection Containing Matches With Only Two Keywords

I am trying to get pictures than contain both Jessica and Ryan, but not other names.  The only way I have figured out how to do this is by entering in the other names in the doesn't contain field.  That seems like a lot of work when I have many other names, and it must be updated each time I add new keywords.  Is there an easier way?
