I use LR 4.4. Recently everything on my monitor in my LR catalog has a very warm cast. Even the white portion of the histogram appears tan, not white. However, my monitor is calibrated and if I export an image and then open it in another program, such as Photoshop or paste it into Word, it appears fine, with the normal color temperate. The color temps listed for each photo in develop mode varies, from 5000 to higher, but all have this same, almost sepia cast. When I print an image, they appear fine as well. Is there some preference seeting that controls the color cast of the catalog?
Having an issue where all brushes and graduated filters are adding a warm yellow tint, no matter what the color settings are for the brush. The tint persists, even if I convert the image to B&W within Lightroom.
I have just moved to LR4.1 from a bridge/PS6 workflow. I am having issues with the prints having a magenta cast. I have a colour managed workflow (Eizo ColourEdge monitor, Datacolour calibration, Epsom R3000 using paper manufacturers icc profiles). The magenta cast is happening when printing through LR4 using the papers icc profile. Same file is fine when printed with the same profile through CS6.
My Nikon D7000 raw files all have a magenta cast to them when imported into Adobe Lightroom 3.5, and I wasn't shooting on multiple exposure. I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and have Adobe Photoshop CS4 as well as a trial version of Adobe Lightroom 3.5 (testing to see if I would like to buy as I can't read my raw files in CS4).
If I convert my raw files to DNG, and then view them using camera raw (CS4), the magenta cast is gone. However, if I view those same DNG files with Lightroom, they have the magenta cast. I have tried re-importing my catalog, but every time they all have the same strong magenta cast.
how to get the following effects like the photos shown below...I've tried saturation, highlights, brightness/contrast and still can't seem to get this beautiful soft warm glow effect.
I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.
I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?
I used the Lightroom beta 3.5 beta with CR 6.5 beta and now have installed the update of these two products. In beta I was able to open Phase One IQ raw files just fine but now with the 3.5 release I obtain a funny Magenta color cast that displays in the Library Mode and thumbnail but does not display in the Development Mode. This happens on both my Mac Laptop and workstation. Mac OS 10.6.8. I have not yet tried uninstalling LR and reinstalling, will do that next. The first image is in the Library mode after I have opened the file. The second is from the Development Mode. Notice how the tumbnail at the bottom remains constant but the small image on the left has changed in the Development mode to its natural look.
I should say that this color cast happens after I adjust the temperature settings of the image, not just from mearly opening it in Development.
I'm using Lightroom 1. I tried to merge catalogs by importing a catalog into a master catalog, but there were some problems. The one I noticed immediately was that the collections are not correct. It imported the collections, but for example one collection now has only 4 photos when the originbal had 140? How can I fix that? (Although not necessariy a problem, it seems to have the wrong number of photos imported too. It says the previous import was 3175 photos when it was more like 10,000.)
I had to reinstall an OS in my computer due to a virus. As a result LR 3 in no longer installed. I still have the catalog on a backup disk and have just installed and updated to LR 4.4. What is the best way to merge the V3 catalog with V4 and are there any things I should expect or look out for?
Can someone help me understand color settings in Photoshop. My images look much lighter and warmer when I edit them than when I export them using Save for Web.
For a while I though it was because I was importing a raw file with a different color depth and profile so when it got saved as a jpg that the colors and brightness would shift. Recently, I made a graphic in Photoshop and it still looked warmer than the export. I also know temperature is displayed wrong in photoshop because when I create a neutral gray color its too warm. When it's exported using save for web the temperature is shown correctly.
If it was a mis calibrated monitor it would look warm all of the time. I'm using Photoshop CS3, my color profile is sRGB with color management turned off (its off because espon recommends this setting because it can better manage colors). Although I tried changing these settings and they don't seem to make a difference. Here's neutral gray image with screen caps to show you what I'm talking about.
LR4.2 gives some ugly magenta color cast on deep shadows especially at high iso pictures. Nikon Capture NX2 gives them too, but not so heavy. If I push the shadows at iso 1600, they are all magenta. Is it related to the beta state of the D600 support? My D700 is at iso 3200 in deep shadows completely black (only luminance noise), even pushed. Is there a possibility to correct that issue with LR (high iso blackpoint correction)? The shadow color tint correction from the calibration option is not really a solution, because it does not only correct the deep shadows, so the other shadows get a green tint.
Right now I am working on a Win 7 64 computer and have a Canon MP810 printer. I read the materials on color management and set my color management in "Print" in Lightroom 4 to "managed by printer". My printer color management in advanced settings is set all to defaults. When I print a photo from Lightroom 4, there is a distinct magenta cast to the entire photo, but it's most observable in midtone neutrals. A burnt out section of a lightbulb goes white, for instance, but greys seem to go pinkish, greens to a rust, etc. I also printed the same photo from a windows file, using Windows 7 print mode. That photo seemed to go slightly magenta in the neutrals but not nearly to the same degree. what I might try or test to see if I can get my print colors more accurate?
Just got an epson 3880 printer. Printing on epson paper is fine. But printing on Ilford or Moab or other papers from lightroom and photoshop have a terrible magenta color cast. WHen I print the same image from Preview, with the same print driver settings, it looks fine. So somehow the adobe apps (or my settings) are messing up the color sync. I used to have an espon 2400 which worked just fine.
I have Mac OSX-10.9.1. Monitor is calibrated. (Prints to epson paper with their profiles look great...it's just other profiles that are really bad).
The fresh install of LR 5.2 renders all images - RAW and JPG - throughout the program with a very dark, green-yellow colorcast. The only place where images appear normal is in the Import dialog, while the thumbnail mode is active. Apart from that, every program module features this annoying reproduction. Here are some supporting screenshots (red rectangles are from me):
Import screen - thumbnail view - OK:
Import screen - preview - NOT OK:
Library view - NOT OK:
Strangely enough, if I export the picture to JPEG - without any modifications - the image appears normal again:
LR version: 5.2.1, 64b (tried the 32b version too, same error) OS: Windows 8, 64bit Camera: Canon 40d, imported images are RAW.
i have an 8 giga LR4 catalog (about 300000 images).just installed the new LR5 and tried openning the LR4 cat in LR 5.it said it needs to upgrade, but in the middle of the prosses i had this messege: "lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of LR"
i saw that there is an option to export all my LR4 catalog as a new catalog and than import it into LR5.i haven't tried that yet since i'm worry that i might loose some info. will this process (of exporting and importing) keep all my LR settings? like develop user presets, keywords and collections?
I only want ONE cataglog. Today I installed and upgraded Lightroom from v. 3 to v. 4.3 which was OK.I wanted to upgrade my ONE and ONLY existing catalog keeping the same name.LR created a second catalog and added a - 2 to the name and it's a .ircat.
How can I return to having only ONE catalog and library?
If I have more than 1 catalog, can I start Lightroom with different shortcut so when I click it will start the propper catalog inestead of going to close and reopen the other catalog?
If I create a LR Catalog on a macbook pro and then copy it to an external hard drive, can I then connect a PC to the external hard drive and open the catalog in Lightroom?
I am currently editing a large group of vacation photos using Lightroom 3. I have purchased a new computer and have installed Lightroom 5 on that computer. Can I copy the Lightroom 3 catalog to the new computer and use that catalog with Lightroom 5?
I inadvertently had "copy" selected when I imported some photos from an external drive. They were copied to my computer's hard drive. I deleted the folder on my hard drive and the photos in lightroom. Now when I tried to import them using 'add' they are grayed out as if I already imported them. How do I delete the catalog now so I can re-import them the right way.
I've recently gone from pc to mac. I've imported photos from pc/elements 9 to mac/LR4. I'm in the process of getting the photos organized in LR4 when I got a message that my catalog was corrupt. When trying to repair I got a message that the catalog can not be repaired. I have not backed up my catalog.
It shows that my photos are on Macintosh HD / Users / bateson / Pictures / SteveLightroom4Pictures. Is there a way to fix or redo the catalog? Or do I need to start over and rebuild a new catalog by re-importing all the files to a new catalog? It has taken me a month to import and reorganized from elements 9.
Yesterday Bridge would not let me move files without shutting the program down after it moved the file. Today, I cannot find my catalog in LR4.2, nor can I find the backup, even though it has backed up every day.
This entire upgrade sucks! Took me forever to figure out how to get my catalog from 3.0 imported. Now I am missing plug ins, user presets in develop module, paper pre-sets in printer module. Why isn't everything imported? Why aren't all default settings imported? Why do I need to set up the layout etc. again. Horrible upgrade! I was on line with Adobe tech support. They say they know the problem, try back in a few days! I spent $79 to upgrade andthe product doesn't work!
I was importing into LR3 for the first time and while I was filling out info (renaming files), my MAC started to pinwheel. Finally I was forced to "force quit". Now when I try to relaunch LR from my alias or the HD it gives me this message; "LIghtroom cannot use the catalog because it is not writeable and cannot be opened".
