Lightroom :: 4.2 / PS6 - Raw Settings To Create 32bit TIFF
Oct 19, 2012
Should all settings be zeroed before creating the 32 bit TIFF file in Edit in>Merge to HDRPro. Does this include defringing, sharpening, noise reduction and all basic panel settings?
Also the info I have been reading infers that only the the exposure ends of the bracket need to be input rather than all of the files in the bracket. Example from a -2,-1,0,+1,+2 bracket, only the -2 and +2 would be input into the Merge to HDR Pro.

When I generate a 32 bit tiff (HDR) in PS CS5 from bracketed pictures within lightroom 4.1, import the tiff back into lightroom, adjust it in lightroom, and then send it back to PS (option "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" selected) for further editing, the file won't open in PS. Opening the file directly in PS works, but without the adjustments made in lightroom.
I have tried the same with a 32 bit tiff from Photomatix. Same behaviour.

I recently did a photoshoot with a car. It was the first time that I planned to professionally use 32 bit HDR merging. I shot 4 exposures of the front of the car from the side, and shot another 4 at the same brackets of the back of the car while mounted on the tripod.
Here's exactly what I'm trying to do;
Take 2 different 32 bit TIFFsAlign them to be a panoramaExport to a single, true 32 bit TIFFAdjust & tone that 32 bit panorama TIFF in Camera Raw
I've worked with panoramas plenty of times, but when I take the 32 bit TIFF files into photoshop, I pass through CR without doing anything. Once the TIFFs are in PS, they are converted to an 8 bit mode automatically. I also tried to take those 8 bit TIFFs, auto-align, switch back to 32 bit mode, and then export as a 32 bit TIFF. I then took the panorama 32 bit TIFF into Camera Raw, but obviously, the damage had already been done and it was not true 32 bit.

I have been working on a file in photoshop cs5 that had come from lightroom 5.3. This was then saved (automatically becomes tiff file in Lightroom). I then wanted to make some more adjustments to it in lightroom (using local adjustment clarity). I then tried to copy the settings of the adjustment brush from the tiff to the original raw file. This is where it gets very strange. The adjustments are copied but they are rotated ccw by 90 degrees! I can replicate this every time.

LR 4.3 Imported images as DNG and am working with them in LR. When I try to Edit in PS (CS6), the Photoshop app starts and is passed the DNG file.
Even though I have the External Editing set to TIFF to open in CS6 it refuses to export a TIFF file and pass that to PS.
Oddly this export process will work for a JPG file but not one that is converted to DNG.
No lab software loaded and am on current versions through Adobe Updater.

very slow saving of TIFF files I came across several articles online ("The Mac Performance Guide" being one of them) mentioning that if you turn off compression for TIFF files it'll take a lot less time. The problem is I can't seem to find any compression settings at all.
I'm using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac, mostly editing via Lightroom 3 first (I suspected the issue being that Lightroom opens up the files as 16 bit in Photoshop, but even 8 bit images in Photoshop won't give me any compression options). The above link specifies CS3, CS4 and CS5, so it should be in there somewhere.

I am exporting graphics to TIF format and it needs to be exact same as in document, RGB code. I found out that if I uncheck the "Embed Color profile" it exports correctly with exact color codes as in Corel. However, sometimes I have found out that I have forgotten to uncheck that little box..
So I would prefer to have it unchecked by default. How would I do it?
I opened filters.ini and found the TIFF section, but I don't really understand anything there.

I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:

When I shoot images with a high dynamic range I use the AEB function to create an HDR image in PS merge to HDR Pro and save them as 32bit tiff.
Is it best to then process these in LR5 or to use the Camera Raw dialogue or is there no differance in exposure, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks and contrast functions whilst processing 32bit images?

Lightroom 4.3 won't start up on my Windows 8, 32 bit machine. Install went fine but when I click on the Lr icon the program appears to start up and I get the Lr in the task bar at the bottom and when I hover over the icon I get a thumbnail of the start screen. When I hover over the thumbnail of the start screen it appears on my desktop but when I move the mouse off the thumbnail the start screen disappears from the desktop so there is no way to get past this point.

I didn't know what to expect but when performance went from bad to worse and each click on LR resulted in (not responding), I became very concerned. I did research and couldn't find anything so I looked at my swap file and tweaked it. I added swap files to all of my drives, physical and virtual. For now that seems to be working.
My 32 bit W7 has 4gig of RAM installed.

I’m a long time Photoshop user but recently picked up LR4 to try to fine tune my workflow. I’ve noticed that after importing new files (RAW, I haven’t tried with jpg) into my library as I scroll through them (1-up, not in grid) the preview comes up and then after a second or so the WB changes to a much colder image.
Does LR4 initially preview at specific settings and then change to the individual image settings? Even if so, the final images seem very cool and I feel like I have to up the temp more than I should have to. My previous workflow was to sort in Bridge and then use ACR to import to Photoshop. I feel like I did much less tweaking of my WB this way. I feel like I’m starting from square one with LR4.

When the 'up' arrow appears in a thumbnail and comes up with the message:
The metadata for one or more of these photos has been changed by another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from the catalog?
What exactly does that mean? This seems to happen every time I export an image to PS (CS5) and return to LR. What exactly has changed? What settings are being imported if I choose 'import settings from disk'.

I am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture. When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file. This all works great. When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension. I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension. When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!). I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway. I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.

I just upgraded from 5 to 5.3.
Now I can't figure out how to export as tiff, PSD, original, etc.
I can only export as jpgs.
LR just doesn't offer those options anymore, it seems.
Have they been moved?

When I use Topaz plug-ins in LR4, the image comes back with only 10% of the pixels remaining. It has been suggested by Topaz support to transfer images to PS6 from LR4 without LR4 adjustments and see if it still happens. Unfortunately my DNG files cannot be sent to PS6 without adjustments. Is it possible to convert DNG files to TIFF so the option becomes available to send it to PS6 without adjustments?

My Lightroom catalog contains a lot of PSD files (created in old versions of Photoshop, before TIFF was the default save format). They have layers. I want to convert these PSDs to TIFFs -- ideally TIFF+ZIP compression, since that seems to reduce the file size pretty significantly.
Is there any way to automate this? My current workflow goes like this: Open a PSD in PhotoshopFile > Save As, choose TIFF+ZIPDelete the PSD file.Lightroom detects the file is missing. Choose Locate on the file, select the .TIF version of the file, click OK.Click Confirm when prompted that the filenames don't match. Now I have a .TIF original in my catalog. This process requires a lot of manual effort. I can (kind of) automate the PSD > TIF conversion using Photoshop's Image Processor, but: Image Processor only allows LZW compression, not ZIP.After I delete the .PSD, Lightroom requires me to browse for each missing file and "Locate" it individually -- I can't do this with several files at once.
Other stuff I tried: Lightroom's Convert to DNG feature. This discards the layer information from my PSDs, so it won't work.Lightroom's Rename function. I thought I could rename the .PSD files to .TIF before converting them, thus saving the manual step of having to use "Locate" on each file. But Lightroom will not rename files to a different file extension, so this fails.Lightroom's Export feature with "Add to catalog" enabled. This is not what I want either, because it exports a file with LR edits applied. I want to replace the original file with a different format, while retaining all its LR metadata and edits in the catalog.

I am trying to find an efficient method for converting PNGs to TIFFs for management in LR 4.4. I have tried using Automator for Mac for this purpose. However, the converted TIFF files appear corrupt when imported into LR, although they still work when imported to Photoshop.
Any reason why Automator's conversion would not be acceptable?
Similarly, I tried using GraphicConverter 8 and had the same results.

I am a new Lightroom user and am quickly learning to love the program. One thing that I find myself having to do it do some editing in Photoshop for large cloning jobs and removing things. Specifically, I am replacing a background from a recent maternity session.
When I use the Edit in Photostop option, the file always opens up in Photoshop (CS5) as a TIFF file. Then, when I am complete, the edited TIFF file is available in Lightroom. Now, I understand that the TIFF file is a lossless format similar to RAW. But, I am curious if I am limiting or hindering myself by processing the now-adjusted TIFF file vs the original RAW file.
Or should I do all Lightroom processing before I move to Photoshop to edit? There are times where I find myself needing to make further adjustments to the edited TIFF file.

how to migrate my Aperture Library into Lightroom 5.3. Therefore I use a trial version of Lightroom and Aperture 3.5.1 on OS X 10.9.1.
To keep my edits on the raw files, I exported them into tiff files and then imported them into Lightroom.
Unfortunately all the tiffs appear to bright in Lightroom. In the screenshot you can see preview showing the tiff as it would appear in Aperture and the much brighter representation in Lightroom.

I am using LR 4.1, and PS6 with ACR 7.1, although I have this same issue PS 5.1 and ACR 6.7. I select "edit in Photoshop", and when finished save as a tiff (same problem with PSD) in the same folder where the raw file (in my case CR2) is. The saved tiff looks far different from the way it looked in PS. Typically it is much lighter. In fact, I can select "edit in Photoshop", do nothing in PS, save as a tiff the same thing occurs. If I save the tiff to another folder, there is no change. So, it appears LR is modifying the tiff image in some way when saving. This is with Windows 7 and ProPhoto RGB in both LR and PS.
