Lightroom :: 3.6 - No Images To Import And Process Shuts Down
Feb 3, 2013
I have Lightroom 3 version 3.6 installed on my MacBook. I then upgraded to OS X 10.8.2. Since the upgrade when I try to import raw images from my Nikon D3100 camera I get images to preview and select but when I select and try to import I receive a message saying that there are no images to import and then the import process shuts down. I have also downloaded the most current version of Java RunTime. How can I fix the import process and resume using Lightroom?
This issue occured shortly after update to 4.2, but not directly after. I am using windows 8.
The issue that occurs is after importing images they are adjusted automatically to develop module cross process 1. After dealing with this annoyance for a bit of time I realized that I can not even "RESET ALL" the images to delete the adjustment. In delving into other images that have been in my database for quite some time, I have tried to "RESET ALL", which resets images to CROSS PROCESS 1. I have never set import to automatically adjust.
It seems as if there is no rhyme of reason as to how the import process presents the previews to select for import. I did s shoot last night and the images are spread out over different areas between other photos that I took in the past. Shouldn't they just be sorted by image name so they are presented together?
I just downloaded the trial of Lightroom 4 to see if it's a better fit for me than Picasa.
I have all my images ordered by Date on an external NAS device. So...
z:/photos/1999 .../2000 .../2001 ......../2001/2001_01_01 New Years Day (for example).
I only started shooting in RAW this year. When I shoot in RAW, I have a subfolder called RAW. I then process the raws to JPG using Photoshop batch processor and place them in teh root of the folder.
So I will have a structure like :
2010_05_04 img_1.jpg img_2.jpg
and then in 2010_05_04/RAW img_1.cr2 img_2.cr2 .. etc.
I installed lightroom and went to import the pictures. I have (according to Picasa) 24,295 photos image files. these are all either JPG, RAW (cr2), or .AVI or .MOV. THe vast majority are images.
LIghtroom is hanging on 11,622.
I'm not sure why. It isn't even picking up certain date folders at all (like 2012, 2006, or 2007).
I tried cancelling the import process (hitting the X) and then starting again but it still continues to hang.
Since installing Lightroom 5, the program hangs during the import process. I never had this issue with Lightroom 4, but recently had a system crash and lost my former catalog. There are about 140,000 images to be imported from a 3TB hard drive.
I'm running a PC with 24 GB of RAM, a 128 GB SSD boot drive and a dedicated 128 GB SSD dirve for Photoshop/Bridge/Lightroom cache.
I use a Panasonic LX7 with in camera HDR. When I import RAW files into Lightroom 4.3 the HDR effect is removed in the process. Is there a way to avoid this?
Using Lightroom 3.5. It seems to me in the past that my images would import and the 2010 process would be applied automatically. However, no matter what I do, I'm getting to the "!" on my new imports. But I guess I have forgotten what to do to force Lightroom to default to the 2010 process.
I have thousands of images. I have found that a catalogue can only process about 3500 images without slowing down greatly. This means I have to create multiple catalogues to process my images.
I want to take one image process it to make (e.g. HDR) then restart with original image and make another completely different process (e.g. B & W). Sometimes I have many ideas for a photo and I like to see what I end up with. What would be the workflow for this?
I use the Lightroom 4.1 export feature to export my HDR panorama images as 16 bit tiff in a temporary folder and after that to open the images automatically in PtGui Pro 9.1.x. The problem is if I export more than 25 images PtGui Pro starts one time for the first 25 images, then a second time for image #26 till 51, and so on. This happens during all my test with multiple image formats like 8 bit tiff with/without compression or with jpegs. It makes no difference whether the temporary folder is located on an SSD or a regular hard drive.
Additional I tested LR4 Export to Hugin 2011.4.0 (32Bit) and Gimp 2.8 (64Bit) and the result is the same like with PtGui Pro: After the 25th image a new instance of the program started.
Because of this behavior in different programs, I must assume that the fault must be with Lightroom. Is there any hardcoded limits by handover of pictures to external programs?
(Windows 7, Lightroom 4.1 and PtGui Pro 9.1 are 64 Bit versions)
I have been using Lightroom 4 with a subscription on my personal computer. I am now taking a class at a college where they have Lightroom 2 on the computer lab's computers. Can I use/convert a lightroom 4 catelog or .dng picture from 4 to 2 without losing my editing work?
I just upgraded to LR4. I have a number of images that I converted to black and white using Silver Efex pro directly from Lightroom 3. I also have scans of images from black and white negatives in my catalog. When updating these images from process 2010 to process 2012 in LR4 each image becomes ever so slightly warmer (dirtier) on the screen. I noticed this because when updating the process I checked the review changes via before/after box. Some of the images where tweaked a bit in lightroom 3, others not. Strange thing is that when I run the cursor over the images the RGB values in the histogram are exactly the same in the before and after images.
I would have to say the before looks cleaner and more neutral. I don't mind using process 2010 for previously worked on images; however, it does seem to defeat the purpose of upgrading.
When LR4.x sees an older image it shows me the exclamation mark. OK, yes I will be updating... so the next step is a side by side. I could skip this, but it can be interesting to see where the subtle differeces will be. I know about the backslash key as a way to close the side-by-side. Up to today it always closed the *old* (2010) version and I sailed off into whatever editing was needed.
Today the backslash is always placing me in the older version "Before".as if I chosen "do not update"? ...but I *did* click "Update".My LR4 book (M. Evening). which I generally like, was written before the interface got locked down as there are some inconsistencies even with 4.0, so looking there I find nothing that works on this exact flow of events.
What am I doing "wrong" for the 4.3 interface. Hmmm, I just updated from 4.2 and that's when LR started leaving me in the old process.
I just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.
I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.
System is an Acer Aspire 7811 64 bits w/ Intel i7, Win 7 Home Premium, 8 GB internal mem and no external drives.
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
I'm trying to import photos into LR3.3, and the thumbnails are grayed out, as is the import button. The photos come from two other cameras -- one Canon Elf, the other I'm not sure. I received them through dropbox, and they open fine with Bridge and Photoshop CS4.
Lightroom will not display preview images during import of raw images. Any images in other formats display fine but with raw images I get a gray window the size of the preview image and the words "preview unavailable for this file".
Whilst PS reads all my files from external hard drives (previously worked with Windows)onto my Imac, LR sees the files but they are "dimed" and thus will not import. There is no error message.
I have just purchased a Canon 5D Mark III. I have Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 4. I have tried to import RAW images, but neither of the Lightrooms will import the images. Do I need a plug in or update?
I have all of my photographs backed up on a Westeren Digital hard drive. It is called "My Book K" How can I get that into LR so I can imoport, or export from LR? Also is it hard on my external hard drive to leave it on all the time?
What I am doing is for every new set of images, say a wedding, I am setting up a new catalogue on the off board HD.
I then import the images as DNG's & that's after first off loading them as the original Nikon RAW files (I don't trust either LR or myself to get it right) onto another HD.
So, now I have 2x copies.
One original non-PP RAW files
One open in LR as DNG's which I then work upon.
Now, a few days later, I plug in the HD into my PC and Lo! File name is off line or missing.
This happens more often than not, so maybe 75% of my work flow is stymatised by having to work out what's happened or I have to start again on the PP.
At this point, I am trying to both open the .lrcat file either from within LR / File / Open Recent or directly from the file on the offboard HD.
I recently upgraded from Lightroom 4.x to 5.3, and I am now unable to import any new images. The import dialog allows me to select files, but once I press the import button (and this includes using "Add", "Copy", and "Copy as DNG"), nothing happens. I've left it 'transferring' overnight — nothing. I eventually cancel and a box pops up that says "No photos or videos were found to import.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling LR5 and working with a fresh catalog. No luck. I even deleted all the preference files and everything. Nothing. I'm about to be in a real bind if I can't import new work soon.
When I insert a CF card into my reader, thumbnails of my images appear in the organizer. When I click on "Import", the following message appears: "The following files were not imported because they could not be read." I didn't have this problem with versions 2 or 3 of Lightroom.
Recently purchased LR5. When I import from my CompactFlash card via an external card reader, images do not import. Only blank grey thumbnails; no matter how long I wait. If I double click on a blank thumbnail, the image does show up. When I return to the thumbnail view, a bunch of surrounding images will appear as thumbnails, but not all. In order to get all of the images on the card to show as thumbnails, I have to double click on numerous thumbnails until all thumbnail images are loaded. If I'm importing photos to different folders, I have to go through this process over and over again.
Just tried to import some images from an SD card (using a card reader) as I normally do and the import freezes on "importing files". Before import the thumbnails shows and I have tried a different SD card. Is this a bug? do I need to re-install LR?
I posted this questions previously and the answer was to update to 5.3, do a clean format and try again. I did all of those things and RAW files will STILL not import into LR. I've left it for up to 45 minutes with nothing but a spinning wheel and the "importing files" on the screen.
I imported my images from my 5d mark iii via LR4. The first 203 images imported perfectly the last 125 did not. The message read "the following files were not imported because the could not be read"? I don't understand, they were all on the same card? They show in lightroom when you are selecting which ones to import, they just will not import. I tried it two times My LR4 is updated as well.
I'm a longtime LR user and just upgraded to LR4, but have one camera (Panasonic Lumix LX3) which LR import the raw images as bw. I can't figure out why?I've checked the import settings (import as DNG) (apply preset > None) etc. When I look in the History panel after import it just says the imported date, no indication of conversion to bw.
Obviously I can just convert them back to color in the develop panel but I don't understand why this is happening, and with only this camera's files (my Canons all import as normal)?
