Illustrator :: How To Trace Hand Drawn Sketch To Single Line Vector Outline
May 25, 2013So I am basically a brand new user to ai-cs6 and have been working on a project for a friend. I've drawn up the basic components of the logo she wants, all separate individual pieces. My intention is/was to trace in each piece, and scale, rotate, and clean them up according to how the final piece should look. Where I'm running into trouble is that the sketches are not point perfect, meaning there's some shading in the hand drawn, and the lines are rough in areas. I'm trying to avoid redrawing the pieces because we both are really happy with where they're at.
What I'd like to do with ai-cs6. How to trace very simply a one line vector of the outline of the image. So instead of creating a piece that has stroke straight from the scanned in artwork, I get a single line, with multiple points, that flows the simple shape of the piece. From there it seems it would be pretty simple to just increase the stroke weight and modify the style of line to make it look how we would like. except that since the sketch has some rough line sections ai-cs6 is adding either a lot of detail and making it look pretty rough, or it's missing entire sections and leaving them blank.

I was thinking of purchasing a graphics tablet, placing the object on the tablet and drawing round it. The cost of such a tablet can be as low as £50.
Before I purchase such an item. I was hoping for an accuracy of +- 0.5mm ( 1mm )
I've read that you can calibrate the input of the tablet in autocad.

I guess my only other option is insert the scanned item as a jpg and draw lines on top of it manually tracing the profile, this sounds a little labour intensive.

I can pick a line with sketch active using the kSketchCurveLinearFilter
I have not been able to pick it from outside of sketch. Have tried using kDrawingCurveSegmentFilter to get a DrawingCurveSegment but I can not get the sketch line from the DrawingCurveSegment
I assume there is a way to get the sketch line from DrawingCurveSegment or DrawingCurveObject but have not figured it out.
Revit :: LT 2013 - Modify Sketch Line Railings

However, everything after"click Modify | Railings tab" does not appear anywhere on my screen. The only active editing tools are 'Pick a New Host' & 'Reset Rail'. Is there a special Revit handshake of dance that I need to know?

I added an image to a sketch successfully but it cam with a yellow line around it (see attached) and I can't remove it. Oct 6, 2012I want to draw a line between the two sketches visible on the image below. The line should be in the plane visible. The starting point of the line should be from wherever the top sketch intersects the plane of the current sketch. The finnish point of the line should be wherever a line of the bottom sketch intersects the current sketch plane.
There is no tooltip appearing that would allow me to quickly "attach" the starting line to the correct position. Is there such an aid, and how do i turn it on?

Jun 25, 2012I am using live paint to paint cartoon character illustrations. The artwork is brought into Illustrator CS3 and live traced. Then I convert it to a live paint group and use the paint bucket to fill. Everything looks fine no matter how much I zoom in. If I bring the AI file into Photoshop CS6 I can see a thin white line between the black line art and the fill. This is most noticeable where black meets black. I can also see this sometimes in file previews while browsing through files. If the white line cannot be seen in Illustrator is the file ok? I did just upgrade to CS6 if that would make a difference.

May 25, 2012I have taken this sketch (jpeg) converted to .eps and performed a live trace in illustrator. I then go to live paint to select areas to fill with different colors, but the whole image is selected. It could have to do with me not being able to separate into layers before the trace, but i'm not too sure where i am going wrong here. Sep 20, 2012How do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?
I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations. Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.
I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist. I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.
I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way. I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option. I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.

Apr 18, 2013I am having trouble when tracing a sketch to convert it to vector. I have tried scanning it into photoshop first then exporting it to illustrator, and also just scanning in as a jpeg and opening it in illustrator.
The trouble I am experiencing is that the lines are not clean, but appearing very grainy. When i choose Fills I get the best result, but with Strokes i get 2 thin lines and obviouly no fill.
Either way I can make the color of the lines all the same, but am unable to create objects within the lines to fill with color, such as face, sunglasses, etc. I can do it with live paint but I know there are other ways to color in files in AI.
