May 22, 2012I need to create an illustration with only a certain amount of colors. I cleared out everything from my swatches palette and asked it to "add used colors." A color keeps popping up when I do this that I can't find in the actual illustration! But it must be somewhere. Is there a way to search for that color... so I can see where it is? I've tried selecting every piece of artwork, checking it, then locking it... but I'm not finding it.
I'm using CS4 on a Mac.

Apr 22, 2013Im trying to get the join dialogue to open so I can set to smooth but when I click comm j or shift option comm j it doesn't open. I closed and reopened holding shift control option comm but still doesnt show. How do i get it?

Illustrator :: CS6 Find Font Dialog Box
Oct 16, 2013I'm currently updating a LOT, and I mean A LOT of old forms, I have to replace the old Helvetica fonts for a new set we bought recently, and I realised that the Find Font dialog box is no longer "extensible". Is this now a "normal" behavior for Illustrator? Is there a workaround, or a preference somewhere I missed?
If this is a choice from the developers, let me say that removing features IS NOT a good way to go!In the meantime I'll revert to CS5 for that particular batch..If CC is going the same way I.E. removing features instead of improving old ones I'll pass..
Illustrator :: Could Not Find Linked File
Mar 2, 2013I have been using adobe for 4 years and I have never had this issue. Anytime I create a new design and save and then try to re-open it ( after I have moved logo or background pic I used to a new folder) it gives me this error. It also does it if I try to open up something on my computer at home.

Feb 7, 2014I was given a complex children's logo (below) in AI format. When placing it in ID, I started getting resolution warnings. After some digging, it turns out that the person who created this used images instead of gradients for only some of the objects. I'm not sure why someone would do this instead of just creating the gradients in AI. However, I now need to find and replace all these images. Is there an easy way to locate the images?

For example, I type in 654, but it automatically goes to 7654, so I have to highlight the text and delete the 7 in order for it to show 654. Jun 26, 2013In CS6, you could select the artwork, then go the the Artboard Panel, choose options, and then choose "fit to selected artwork" or "fit to artwork bounds." This resized the artboard to fit your artwork. In Illustrator CC, both options are absent in the Artboard Panel and "Custom" isn't there either. I can't find these options anywhere else. I am reopening files in CS6 to do this now. Can't believe they eliminated this feature. I use it everyday.

I know it should be located until the Effect menu -> Stylize -> Drop Shadow, but the only option that appears under Stylize is Glowing Edges. Jul 31, 2013We have purchased new iMac's to replace our current 5 year old Mac pros. So we decided that instead of reinstalling CS5.5, which was what was installed on the Mac Pros , we would got straight to Creative Cloud
Now, If an ai file that was previously created on the Mac Pro in CS5.5 with linked images(stored on a shared folder on a Windows 2008 server) , when that ai file is opened on the iMac in Illustrator CC, we get the error "Could not find the linked file. Choose Replace to select another file or ignore to leave the link unchanged". If you click ignore, when you check the link path for the missing images , the path is blank.

Apr 6, 2012I'm trying to find a way to loop thru all items in an Illustrator document and get their stroke and fill color. Sometimes items are spots, sometimes documents are set to RGB or CMYK, etc, so swatches can be a mixture of things. Is there an easy way to get the swatch name for each item?
For example, I can check if an item is a spot, and get it's color like so:
var c = app.activeDocument.pageItems[0];
if (c.strokeColor.typename === 'SpotColor') {
var s = c.strokeColor.spot.name;
}
But if I try to get the name from an item colored 'Black' (which is set to Process Color, CMYK), then I'll need to do something else like:
var c = app.activeDocument.pageItems[0];
if (c.strokeColor.typename === 'CMYKColor') {
var s = c.strokeColor.name; // This returns undefined - not sure what I'm doing!!!
}
Is there an easier way to achieve this, other than getting the typename of each item, and then trying to figure out it's color name? I was hoping something like this would work:
var c = app.activeDocument.pageItems[0].strokeColor.name;
Illustrator :: Find And Change Mask That Was Created By Someone Else?
Oct 9, 2012I need to adapt a design to a billboard; it was originally created by our parent company's marketing. The billboard company just informed me that I need to incorporate a bleed area and the document does not have that. I think it's using a mask on the items that will need to bleed, so I need to find the masking box and expand it to meet the bleed. But since I did not create this document, how to find it and it's difficult to reach Marketing. Is there an easy way to find the mask, or make it visible?
