Illustrator :: Using Scissors Tool On Every Anchor With Ease?
Nov 19, 2012I wonder if there's an easy way to have the result just as if I used scissors tool on every anchor of a path. Clicking on every anchor is a tiresome labor.

View 4 RepliesI have a shape in illustrator CS6 that I'm trying to edit. When I try to click on a point with the Delete Anchor Point Tool nothing happens however I am able to select the point using the Direct Selection Tool and then remove it using the "Remove selected anchor points" option in the Control palette. Same issue with trying to use the Convert Anchor Point Tool.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been working in In-design for my classes and everything is working fine. But recently I needed to do some work in Illustrator but when I opened the program up, some of my tools seems to be slightly bugged or something.
The type tool will not make the anchor where I initially click. It creates the anchor around the center point of the type box. This is really annoying because if you have a specific grid, it will not line up to it. I have never adjusted this I don't think because now I have no clue on how to fix it!
Also, my pen tool seems to be messed up. I first create the starting point, but then when I make the second point and try to drag out the node arms to make a curve, it only has one arm! Thus, the curve never is created, so I can't draw with the pen tool, therefore I fail my classes..
I know how to use the "I" intelligent scissors tool and paste into a window with a transparent background.
But I saw a NASA video where this very intricate tree with branches and no leaves was made into a PNG perfect. Then they had the stars moving behind it. They didn't use a scissors tool. There was too much detail.
It's as simple as that. How do I change the anchor point from which I'm drawing. I'm using the pen tool on Illustrator CS6 on a tablet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have read several Pen tool tutorials but haven't found anything about this:
If I draw a path with the pen tool and later want to reactivate it, clicking the last anchro point to make the path active severs one of its control handles. Specifically the handle that is for the curve that is yet to be drawn. And after that I have to use the Convert Anchor Point tool to recreate both control handles and try to math the already existing one to its former place.
How can I fix this?
When I try to trace a template with the pen tool parts of the template disappears with each new anchor point. How to keep this from happening?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIMO, brush libraries would be much more useful if they could be edited and saved while open in another document. Having to open a library file to update it is NOT a smooth process.
I'm still using CS5. I assume it's the same in CS6.
I'm just wondering if there's some function to add an anchor point on a path between (exactly in the middle) two anchor points. Like Object > Path > Add Anchor Points, except only between two selected anchor points.
I'm using Illustrator CC (17.1) on a Mac.
When using the blend tool to blend colour between two objects is there a way to see the anchor points so I know where to click the blend tool. I realise the cursor changes when over one but its seems very cumbersome to have to move it around until it changes rather than click directly on one which I could do if I could see it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just working with the pen tool in Photoshop CS6, and unexplainable the anchor points changed from being circles to being squares. How I did it or how to reverse it. What with all the keyboard shortcuts it's possible that I accidentally hit the keystrokes to change it (as I have done it in the past), however I have been unable to find exactly why or how I made this change.

how to do selection with the pen tool. I have made my anchor points and connected the path. But, I need to go back and move the anchor points and mess with the angels a bit. I know I need to push CTRL and the anchor points and handle bar to make these changes , but not sure how to make the points and handle bars show up again,
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using the pen tool for almost a month now… I'm actually getting pretty good with it now, mainly using it to make my selections more precise… I haven't even bothered to try to draw with it, yet…
Anyway, I was already kind of sleepy when I started to outline the chopper with the pen tool… I got pretty tired & saved what I have done into a PSD. In Illustrator I know it would probably save my anchor points…
When I click on my Path palette, I can see some of my outline… But, the rest of it is filled in with white as a shape…With all of that said, in Photoshop… Is there anyway I can pick up where I left off tracing the nice Harley-Davidson?
Or… Do I have to start all over?
I already tried to use the Direct Path tool & Direct Selection Tool… My anchor points remain hidden.
What is the easiest way to preview the result of adjusting feather while removing the background of an object with scissors? So far, I know only irreversible way of using scissors - if I guess the feather factor incorrectly, I have to redo the work of the selection of the object with smart scissors.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use the intelligent scissors quite a bit. In some instances, my picture is not a clear cut selection to where I can go around an place anchor points. For instance where the legs of animals cross over each other and pieces of the background show through the legs. Can multiple selections be made with the intelligent scissors? Or am I using the incorrect tool.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm just getting the hang of GIMP and up and running on a project, until now. For some reason, I'm not able to get the kind of selections I want from using the Path and Scissors tools. Large pieces of the letters get cut off and its frustrating to say the least. I've heard about the edge logic problems and actually found out how to use the Path tool as a result. This still happens with Scissors after I've jacked the contrast all the way up, and its already in bw.
Now the obvious fix would be to just type what I'm wanting and go from there which should be simple. BUT, I'm not quite to the point where I can build it from scratch and the font is fairly specific.
In Illustrator I have a path, I choose the add anchor point tool and am positive I have the cross hair exactly on the path but it keeps telling me I can't add the anchor point.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to get the coordinates of anchor points in every path layer. Can illustrator itself offer me a list of corrdinates X/Y?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that in Illustrator CC (17.1) the pen cursor doesn't automatically let you add or delete an anchor point anymore, when in Pen tool mode (P). It used to be an automatic feature in CS5, where a + or - sign would show up whenever I hovered over a selected path with the tool.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI draw with the pen tool a rectangle... When I click with the direct selection tool on the left side anchors, none of them have the corner widget... The right side anchors / both have corner widgets appearing.
I have tried clicking the left-side anchors and converting them to 'corners' both nothing happens..
I'm creating an animation of a magic 8 ball rolling towards the screen, getting larger as it comes forward. Now that the animation is complete, I would like to put it on an ease path to make the motnion look more realistic. Unfortunatley, when an easein is set for the 8 ball, it will skew the shapes, and everythign sort of flies off in all directions and then lands back where it should be at the end.
How it looks with an easein during the animation, and how I would like it to look during the animation.
[Illustrator CS5]
I need to copy and paste path segments in order to create uniform serifs for letters. (For example, specific path curves).
So imagine I have a horizontal segment and a curve segment. I mouseover each one seperately and I can see they have anchor points where I want them to merge afterwards. I drag one towards the other to make them intersect. Then I try to select both anchor points and press CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + J, but it displays this error: "To join, you must select two open endpoints. (...)" Which makes me think I'm not really selecting both anchor points when they're overlapped.
I have the idea that they can't overlap, because my path segment won't detect the anchor point in the other path. They're just visually intersected but not connected.
If I try to join them when they aren't overlapped, they will join but distort the original shape of the path segments. I select them both with the Direct Selection tool, pressing Shift to add the second anchor point to the selection, which won't work when they're overlapped because Shift + Clicking will deselect the anchor that seems on top.
I also tried various shape modes in pathfinder and nothing works.
How can I properly overlap and join / merge them?
(I'm using a white fill so I can see the shape forming as I add more anchor points so I'm sure they aren't joined).
I want to move two opposite anchor points in opposite directions so that they are equally spaced. So if I have one anchor point I want to move right and the other left how can i make sure that they have equal spacing apart without having to resort to rulers. Is it possible to select both points and get them to move in opposite direction together?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe direct selection and lasso tools keep selecting entire paths. I thought these tools were for selecting individual or small groups of anchor points so that they can be edited. I am using Illustrator CS6, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my program is being buggy.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm making a picture and I have a problem - I need a maximum of 2000 anchor points, and I have about 11k.
Seems like I have a lot of unnecessary points, but when I try to simplify the picture gets all messed up. Any other way to fix this?
Here's part of the picture, you can clearly see that a lot of the points don't have to be there..
In PS you can drag the center anchor point of an object anywhere within the object or canvas, allowing you to rotate around that custom location versus the dead-center of the object.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to somehow define a shortkey to the process of removing our last anchor point's unused handle?
I am talking about this:
To be able to make a sharp corner I have to manually click on the anchor point so the handle which is still unused gets deleted. The anchor points are particulary small and the don't scale when zooming so sometimes it's just hard to click them and therefore I would love if I could automatically remove the handle with a key/key combination.
I have made a curved path in Illustrator CS6, just a simple stroke (left in picture). Is there an easy way to round the corner of the end of it? Something like the image on the right? (I just tossed a circle over top to give an idea)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a shape I made with the pen tool, and now I want to align one anchor point of the shape with the middle of a rectangle. How can I do this? It doesn't seem like I can do what I do for objects, which is select both objects, click the object I want to align to, and hit align. If I'm not describing this properly let me know and I can try to clarify.
