View 7 RepliesI've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been doing a logo at work on illustrator CS6, but when I come home and load it onto my computer using illustrator CS5, the layers don't show up at all. It's all just one layer. Is this because I didn't save it as a legacy format when I was at work? I feel like I've saved work before as CS6 and the layers have shown up when I bring it up on CS5, but for some reason now it isnt? Anyway, just wonder if I'm doing something wrong or can get around this somehow?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the layers I created in photoshop and I would like to open as a vector in illustrator.
The layers in photoshop as a smart object are done in pen tool.
The question is a little confusing, but what I'd really like is to take an art that I created in photoshop pro after effects, as a vector. Only when I open the AE, rasterize all layers and can not work by increasing the elements.
Hence I wonder if I can bring all these elements created in Photoshop vector shape in Illustrator pro.Without me having to "redo" everything in illustrator.
I'm on this project that i need to digitize an old artwork. It requires vector (AI) & shading (PS).
I have all line art done in AI. There's like 50 layers on it. The original artwork has "shading" and "highlight" on it used by Air brush.
I just want to import all the layers in photoshop at once. It will be time consuming if i do it one by one SO is there any way that I can transfer all the vector path from AI to PS?
I tried Meshtool and its hard to control. Unlike in Brush tool in PS, I got the freedom to adjust the opacity, softness, etc.
I have an illustration I did and when exporting as a PDF I get these white stitch marks inbetween the layering. My steps previous to that were Object > Live paint, where I finalized colouring of my illustration. I'm guessing live paint probably made the layers space out a bit, but I wouldn't see why. The layers are fine when in Illustrator, it's only when I export it into PDF. I would have put a image up but the forum doesn't allow me to post PDFs for some reason.

I imported the old geometry with PTex paint on it. Then I imported the new modified geometry. But When I try to set it up for PTex painting, Mudbox crashes. This happens when setting the resolution. Looking at the log, the error seems to be "Segmentation Fault (Core dumped)".

I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?
I'm new to Inventor. I'm currently having trouble transferring a design from Illustrator into Inventor. My process goes like this: In illustrator I export it as a .dwg. Then in Inventor I create a 2D sketch and click the ACAD button to import it. It works, but not in the way that I want. Only the outline shows up. I want a solid face that I can extrude and work with.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm currently studying Graphic Design and we're using Illustrator CS6 in class. I have CS5 at home. I've opened a few simple image files in CS5 after having worked on them in CS6 in class, and they seemed to hold up fine after the transfer between the two. However today we did work on layers, and now that I've brought it home and opened it in CS5, there's only one layer.
Is the swapping between the two versions going to cause me many problems like this, or is there simple corrections/way to avoid these issues? I'd rather not fork out for the CS6 version (I'm a struggling college student!) or illegally download it as I've caused computer problems in the past trying to do as such.
The files I am creating in photoshop are all coming out very pixelated lately. Especially after I flatten the image or export it to a pdf. This is true even for text layers, eps files I placed, and vector-based objects I drew. The photo layers are pixelated too, even though they were hi-res to begin with and I only made them smaller when I added them to my document. Why everything is so pixelated? I tried changing the file from 72 to 300 pixels/inch, but that didn't clarify the images. It just smoothed the edges a bit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to convert a psd logo for vector format. I have multiple layers and can't seem to save each layers selection to the Work Path, it overwrites the previous layers path with the new one.
Am I missing something, is there another way to make my logo vector friendly and ready for illustrator?
I have a collection of vector images that I use when creating logos. However, there are invisible layers because there are so many layers. How do make these layers visible? I know in Fireworks that there was just a box that you clicked saying "show invisible layers."
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow to get my shape outline back? Adjusting the panel preferences has no effect. Really obnoxious bug, since obviously I can't even see my shape until I select it (and even then, it's pretty hard to find).
View 8 Replies View RelatedWith CS6 i loved the addition to combine vector layers into 1 new vector layer but when i do this in PS CC and then try to enlarge it it only enlarges the first shape.
Example:
I create 3 squares, vector shapes, i cmd+E the layers to combine them, and then i want to enlarge the new shape..what happens is, only 1 square becomes larger..
Using Photoshop CS2, when I open files with text layers (also created in CS2, just a few minutes earlier) I get a message: "Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for Vector output. . ."
I'm new to Photoshop and am wondering what this means and why it's happening? Is it normal?
I am trying to make extrusions to an image. I am new to Illustrator and have read that .ai files are the only ones that you can extrude in AE. However when I bring in an .ai file and select create shape from vector layer, a grey square covers the shape. I am assuming that it is a transparancy issue and it is just filling in the size of the .ai project. I could be wrong though.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNothing is more tedious than not being able to use the direct selection tool to grab multiple points because there is another shape under it on a different layer. I'd think that locking those layers would prevent selection, but it does not.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI find that the color fill vector mask previews within the layers panel are not as useful as they were in CS5. Having the vector path along side the color swatch worked better.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a rather complex piece of artwork in Illustrator CC with the latest Mac OS, with several objects on each layer.
Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.
I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)
Is it possible to disable or defeat the auto-expanding behavior? Placed in bold
Why in the heck do Macs show layers in a PDF that are HIDDEN at the time of saving if "Create Acrobat Layers from Top-Level Layers" is checked is checked -BUT- PC's don't??
I just proofed a business card with my boss accidentily showing him some type on a layer that was hidden. He approved it. Now I have to make a bunch of type set up in very tight margins work in production.
Is there a way to collapse all layers in the layers panel with one click?

I don't know what a cut vector pdf is and I am very new to using illustrator. I just started using it two days ago for this specific project. I found the save to pdf option but I don't know what cut vector is, do I need to do something to cut it up or something?
I have creative cloud cs6 and am using illustrator cs6 for this project. I got no clue here what they are looking for. I can save it out to pdf is that what they mean? This is for an actual profesional printer they will be taking this to and they will make the sign from the file I give them.I have no idea about the file format for printing... I mostly do projects for the web and don't come across print print projects much.
I'm not that fluent in Photoshop. I have a PSD, see here: [URL] . I want to open this in Illustrator so I can print it on my vinyl printer. I need to be able to have this as a vector.
When I open it from a .eps, .pdf, whatever, I get some of the text as vectors, but everything else is some sort of image on 1 layer.
See this screenshot:What I did in the screen shot is take the layer that has most of the items, all together, not vectored and dragged it to the left for you to see.
I'm very new to illustrator and have been trying to turn a logo (png file) into a vector. The logo is white lettering with a transparent background and I cannot get the logo to show up properly so that I can work with it. When I try to open the logo in AI it shows up behind the artboard - and if I try to click on "image trace" the logo gets covered by the white box and I can't see anything.

I can create a dot pattern, no problem, creating swatches, patterns, or using blends, but where I'm hitting the wall is the gradient effect. Tried opacity masks, but that doesn't cut it. One other question I have is, what technique would I use if I wanted an offset dot pattern, say 45°.
I have only just got into using illustrator, after using photoshop for ages and getting bored with it, I have just made a vector image taken from a stock photo >here< at the moment it consists of 4 layers, one background white layer, a layer which has all the colour fills on, a layer with the outlines on it, and a final layer with some touch ups.
I realise now I should have made it in a much bigger size as I have been working on it at 400% and then scaled it down again on the nav and it just looks pathetic.
is there a way of resizing it as it is? or would I have to mess around with different progs and file formats?
I have had a quick browse to see if theres a thread on this subject, but cant seem to see anything of use.
