I have sketches and files on Adobe Idea on the iPad. How to I bring them into Illustrator and preserve the layers, etc? .png, .pdf and .jpg don't seem to do this. I am just starting out with these programs.

Each layer in all documents are named correctly for automatic script exporting to PNG files.
Now I want to import all layers from all ten documents into one master file. And importantly, I want to keep the exact names of each layer.
how can i import a dwg or dxf file in illustrator cc if i want to keep all the layers i've created in my autocad file?

I'm working with another artist that uses Illustrator CC. When I open the Cc file in my CS6 there is a clipping mask where the art board border is. Also, everything is a mess with all the strokes now separate from the fills (effectively duplicating everything). Is there a setting that would allow a file to be passed back and forth between CS6 and CC that would keep the layers, styles ,and objects the same? As far as I can tell the other artist only grouped the objects and then saved the file in CC before sending to me.

I found the perfect image on Can Stock Photo, available as either a 300dpi JPG or as the above-noted Adobe EPS file. I'd much rather have the vector file. It's the same price and can be more easily manipulated if necessary.
The Support team at Can Stock gave me the info on which program created the image. Xara PD6, whether an EPS created with this particular version of Adobe is compatible with Xara?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a script to place a psd file onto only one visible layer (document has multiple hidden layers). This java code has worked so far:

mydoc.embed();
however this works with only the top layer visible (eye turned on in Ai). if top most layer isn't visible i get "target layer cannot be modified" error.
For instance say i have 1,2,3 layers. layer 1 (top most) and 3 (bottom most) would be hidden, layer 2 (middle layer) would be visible and then running the script would place the psd file on to layer 2.

many a time i am trying to make a mish-mash to get some ideas flowing quickly. ok, I have a 120 x 400 document (banner or something)....and i am trying to play with some fonts or some pasted image that has to fit the height only. so if i scale the image/font up, it stretches far out to the right of the doc (about 50% or more for example) and is cut off.
now, to make the doc the right size for the *idea*, i have to resize the canvas with a little guess work to obtain the best fit and then fix the background, etc. if I change my mind...I have to do it all again, etc, etc

I have existing roads, towns etc data that are already set to UTM 17. I want to import ascii point coordinates (from a comma delimited file) into the file. I can import the ascii coordinates as points fine (easting and northing), however the points come in as the absolute coordinates rather than geometric coordinates. I already set the files for right geographic projections. Beyond manually inputing the coordinates into the coordinate tracker, is there a way to import the coordinates form the file set for the geometric coordinates?

View 2 Replies View RelatedA co-worker had a copy of a handy little guide called "Lynn Allen's Tips and Tricks for AutoCAD 2012". I think she (or another co-worker) got it at AU.
On page 33 under the heading "DGN Support", it says the following:
Complex linetypes are now maintained! To ensure that custom linetypes are displayed, copy the corresponding .rsc files to the support path...........
The way I read that, Acad will read the RSC file and display linetypes from it. Is that true? Does it only work when I'm looking at a DGN file? Or can I use the RSC file with my dwg file? I'd test it myself but I don't have access to any MicroStation files.
If Acad can read the RSC file directly, then I don't see why the linetypes can't be used in a dwg file. AND that being the case, I also don't see why an Autodesk product can't be created to WRITE these RSC files. As far as I'm concerned MicroStation's custom linestyles is so much more advanced than Acad's linetypes.
How can I import the contents of an image file into an already open file? I want to import the WHOLE image, not just a cropped version.

Is there any advantage to using "file/import media file to library" (which makes a copy in the working folder) vs just clicking on the folder icon and adding them? I've looked at the file size on both the original clip and the imported one and they are identical. View 3 Replies View RelatedI think the title speaks for itself. Someone has sent me an Illustrator file CS6. I open it in AI CS6 and can see all the layers. I don't use AI much (newbie) and want to sub an image and add another layer in PS (CS6).
I export the file, with all layers intact, as a PSD. I have the "write layers" and "preserve text editability" and "maximum editability" checked. I then drag into PS and the image is there as a single layer only. I've reviewed a video tutorial and appear to be doing exactly what is shown (except his opens up showing layers).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using the FBX Plugin to import an fbx file (created in Motion Builder) into 3ds Max. When I play the animation in Motion Builder under the perspective projection, it looks perfectly natural (I see a character performing some actions on her two feet). However, in 3ds Max, the character seems to be rotating about her axis. I would like to view this file so that it looks the same as it does in Motion Builder. Any tips on how I might do this? If I could do it with the Plugin, that would be preferable (since I am scripting this process with Max Script).
Here are some (possibly) relevant specifics:
- There are seven cameras in Motion Builder (Producer Perspective, Produce Front, ..., Producer Bottom).
- When I import into 3ds Max, I check the Include->Cameras checkbox.
- Once imported, I've tried Perspective, Orthographic, Top, Front, Back, etc.
- When I export the file as a .dae file and view it using a Collada loader, I see the same type of animation (rotated about its axis).
I am using Gimp 2.8, but when I try to import a .pal file, I get a message that says "unknown type of palette file." What's going on?
