Illustrator :: Line Path Disappears On Save File?
Jul 31, 2012I created a circle and positioned a line segment on top of it. When I preview or save the image, the line segment doesn't appear. Here is an illustration of the problem.

Illustrator Scripting :: Dynamic Save File Path
Jan 14, 2014So I deal with a lot of files each day that need to be saved according to their lead code, meaning that there is a folder that holds thousands of sub folders that have the same name as this lead code on a server.
So since I have the lead code in the file name I'm trying to use that in conjunction with the file path to tell illustrator where to save it with Javascript. Also the idea of a dynamic save path is useful.
Here's what I've got so far, it's not working yet but I feel like I'm close.

Jan 9, 2013I've tried every permutation of copy and paste; I renamed the path to path. It looks like a path when I add stroke, but it does not behave like one. I can't cut it or join it to any other path. It remembers it's text path status. I'm running OS X 10.7.5.

Dec 9, 2012I'm currently using Illustrator CS6 as a test version and when I use the pen tool to make a beaver (school assignment), it all end up in one layer. I want to have a new path-layer from every line with the pen tool, so I can remove lines in the layer panel too. At the moment it's one layer that have a picture of a beaver and I can't see the individual lines I've drawn. When I used CS5 recently I didn't have this problem. Is it a setting I can change or does it have something to do with the news in CS6?

Illustrator :: Keeps Freezing Whenever Save Document That Includes Path
Nov 15, 2012For the last few weeks everytime I'm working on a document in illustrator cs6 that includes paths, I go to save it and it freezes, I try and copy it and it freezes.
I've got an Intel Core Processor @ 2.00GHZ and 8.00GB RAM, I don't have any other program open at the same time so I don't know why this keeps happening.

Dec 7, 2011I'm currently in CS5, but I believe this was happening in CS4 and maybe earlier.
When in the Save for Web dialogue (it doesn't matter what format I'm saving to or if transparency is on), sometimes an artifact line of some sort appears on the right edge of the image as seen in the screenshot below (the image is just white & black and the gray is off the artboard). It's not just in the preview…it's in the saved file as well. It seems to occur when the edge of the artwork lies at a certain distance from the edge of the artboard and I'm changing the size of the exported image. The exact pattern of the artifact is not consistent, but it's always vertical along the right edge. Changing the image size and whether it's art or type optimized (or not at all) changes the artifacts.
I can usually get around this by adjusting the edge of the artboard, and it sometimes goes away at a certain image size.

Illustrator :: Link Information File Path?

It appears that Illustrator is no longer keeping file association information with my placed images. If an image is linked, it works fine. However, embedded images have no File Location and simply say its "Embedded" (No file associated with this image).
I understand that this is correct for pasted images. But I have tried both placing an image with the link box, and changing a Linked image to Embeded.
I am not sure when i noticed this change, but its been some time now. Trying to figure out if its related to the AI version, the OS version, or what.
This is not isolated, since all the art stations here (100 or so) do the same thing. And I am pretty sure I noticed this when we were on Vista as well..

May 12, 2008all of a sudden everytime i try to "save as" a file the save as window pops up for a second then simply disappears and i cant click anything. the only thing i can do is shut down photoshop in the process list.

Illustrator :: When Saving A File Using Save Option / File Is Not Staying At Size Of Artboard
Jun 18, 2013am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?

Feb 14, 2012When dimensioning views on idw my line weights disappear on the view I am dimensioning. The Display Line Weights check box stays checked during this.
The only way to get them to display correctly is to select a line in the view and right click select properties and hit OK.

For example, let's say my Illustrator document is stored at: /Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/designs/concept1.ai
and I have placed 2 linked visuals:
/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/big_retouch.psd
/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section:
%%DocumentFiles:/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/retouc hed.psd
%%+/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
I need to replace "/Volumes/Storage/Projects" with "/Volumes/Projects". (There are some more complex replacements I need, but let's start here.)
GIMP :: Set Path Preview Line To Show Straight Line
Oct 12, 2012I've just recently caught up to 2.8 (From 2.4 something or other believe it or not ) and amongst a couple of things I have to say I don't like is the fact that previously when setting a path, if I wanted it to be either perfectly horizontal or vertical I could see by the steps in the path preview line whether it was or not.
With the new version, initially at least, that's no longer the case. As I tend to work with straight lines a lot of the time it's proving to be a bit of a pain. Is there any way to set the path preview line to show the steps again to indicate a straight line.

Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.
No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.

Sep 21, 2011Is there a way with JavaScript to place an image with a calculated path and file name? I have 30+ artboards per document, each artboard named by product number. The actual file name of the master AI file is also already established (meaning every document I use this new script on will have already been saved).
Here's the scenario I'm hoping to create in the context of the documents mentioned above:
Run a script to "Place" a linked image based on the following calculated path:
["S:SAPCurrent Images in SAPStock Schools"] + [current ai filename minus the .ai extension]+[a hyphen like this "-"]+[currently selected artboard name]+[".jpg"]
This image link can be placed on a new top layer called "Images" or if necessary on the currently selected layer. Dimensions of the placed image should be a pre-determined size 8"x8".
Error if the ai document has not been saved yet.
Photoshop :: Unable To Save Files In Original Folder - Disappears?
Mar 15, 2012At random moments when I'm saving layered Photoshop CS5 files, a message pops up with the following text: Could not save "...FileName..." because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
Well the strange thing is that I'm the administrator, the only user of this PC and even when I set/check the properties of the folder containing the files this continues to happen. What is even more disturbing is that I have to save my file as a new file in a new location and when I check the original file, it is no longer in it's original folder.
I save all my files to the local HD and I use an external device to backup my files. I regularly get notices on my backup device telling me that various files were deleted, but will be kept until I need the room. These are files which I did not delete, they are files which I'm still working on.
I'm having to save to the original job folder first, save to the desktop when I get the notice saying I can't save, and then save back into the original folder when I can't save on the desktop anymore because of the same error message. I sometimes get a similar Adobe error message which is basically along the same lines, but I haven't noted the exact text yet.
I no longer run my back up continuously while I'm working because while it's great to have the peace of mind that I'm regularly backed up, my files can get up to 2GB in size and I think the backup running at the same time is slowing Photoshop processes down, so I most often pause it until I take a break. On this occasion, I had been running it while working (smaller file) and so I was able to retrieve an earlier version from my backup which saved me from having to re-do the job completely. I didn't get this problem when I was using CS5 on Vista, it's been since I've been using Windows7 and my back up drive.
I only recall having had this problem with PSDs, but that could just be because these files can take up to ten hours to complete and there's a higher chance of getting an error message over a longer period of time.
I'll disconnect my back up drive while I'm working and see how it goes. It's not ideal, but probably worth a try.I don't know if there's a connection, but occasionally windows randomly sticks a lock on zipped folders which I create, regardless of the permissions I apply to the upper level folder they sit in. I'm told by a friend that it won't affect other people accessing these zipped folders from other machines. I don't know if that's the case, I always change the zipped folder's permission to include 'Users' and that makes the lock disappear.

Jan 23, 2014Using Elements 6 or 11, (a purchased copy), when I add text and then save the text disappears in the saved copy but remains in the Elements copy. I've spent hours on this being very careful that the save location is where I want it. The photos shown in the bin do contain the text. ??
