Illustrator :: Path Length Not Same When Printed?
Feb 14, 2014I have a fuculty member that is prepping a document in illustrator. The image is a ruler. On the screen the paths show up as 48 inches long with 48 1 inch lines 1 inch apart. each line / path length in the w-vlaue in the inspection bar showing the correct lengths. the main backbone of the ruler is a black box that is 48" long.
When we print this at 720dpi on an Epson 9900 the Ruler prints at just under 49" we did another test with just 4pt think lines.
5 inch prints at 5.1" 10 inches just over 10" 24 inches print at 24 1/2 "
on and on. so why the values in the w-value are different when printing?
I was able to check this agains my HP laserjet in my office, and again, line lenghts versus the w-value are not the same.

Oct 2, 2012I'm working in laser cut and very often I need to know how long is the path I'm going to cut with my laser machine. It is very useful to know the length (and the area) of each path while you're designingin Illustrator. I know you can already measure lines or whole objetcs, what I mean is to know the exact path lenght of the lines included in a logo, for exemple, or in a complex drawing.
How I could get this informations in Illustrator CS6?

Feb 11, 2014I'm trying to select a portion of a path by using the direct selection tool and shift clicking on the anchor points. But when I click and drag the brush over onto the path, the brush stroke is applied to the entire path..... which I dont want to happen. I only want it applied to the section of the path.

Illustrator :: Create Single Path To Type On Not Compound Path From Many Paths?
May 11, 2012I have some negative space I created(black area, see first image) that I want to fill with type, not just a simple fill.
Basically I want to create the negative space from a bunch of small minus signs(-) that need to line up as they go across. If I type on each path one at a time as the text doesn't line up that way. This needs to be one continuous path. (see second image)
Unfortunately if I add them together, it creates a compound path, which you cannot type on, unless I am mistaken? So I need them to be a path, not a compound object.

Mar 20, 2014I accidentally converted a path to a text path. I searched the forum for how to convert it back to a regular path. The answer I found said to select the path and hit Command+C+F. This gives me another text path! I now have at least 6 copies of the path in my files but they are ALL text paths and none are visible with a stroke.

Dec 20, 2011A simple curve anchored at two ends.
Sometimes I can click on one end of the anchor and have it select ONLY that end, then I can move that anchor.
However, more and more often, it will only let me move BOTH anchors simultaneously and I have not been able to figure out how to make it stop doing that. Sometimes it will start working again as mysteriously and apparently randomly as it quit working, but more and more I'm just giving up in frustration and not getting any work done!
According to this tutorial, Gimp should exhibit that behavior only when you do an ALT mouse click. Keyboard is nowhere near me! I'm not pressing the ALT key! I can't stop this and it's driving me batty!

They don't intersect, exactly, a straight path ends at a curved path, but I need the end of the straight path to be curved, to make it look like the two meet perfectly. The two gray paths (a single path, then path->offset for the second) are the outside of a shield shape. The two black lines (paths) just surround text, but currently they overlap the gray paths.

I have been using the Path tool to delete portions of the logo I don't want in the final picture. I used the Path tool several times, used "Select to path" to get a selection, then deleted the bits.
