Illustrator :: How To Decrease Spacing Between Shapes

Jun 18, 2013

I am trying to create an outer border for some tires.

I have created a solid shape and then, with it, a pattern brush. But I do not want all of this spacing between the shapes, so is there a way to DECREASE the spacing or get rid of the spacing altogether. Currently it is set at 0%.

Also, is there a way to raise the shapes so that the shape baselines are resting on the OUTSIDE of the ellipse that is drawn? See first image below where the middle of shapes intersect with the outline of the drawn ellipse.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 :: Macro - Spacing Two Shapes Using Worldscale?

Jan 1, 2012

I'd like to enter a value to space two shapes but use the currently set worldscale. How can I do this?

I'll be using a architectural scale such as 3/8" = 1'-0" and such.

= Round(txtScaleDen.Value / 144)
Call setDocScaleCheckbox(chkUseDocScale.Value, userWorldScale)

I hate pressing F8 at startup!

Illustrator :: Bracket Keys For Increase / Decrease On Brush Size Don't Update Display Settings

Jun 8, 2013

I’m a PS user new to Illustrator (CS6). In PS, using the bracket keys [] to increase/decrease brush point size will simultaneously update the data displayed in the tool panel at the top.

While I can use the bracket keys in Illustrator to change the appearance of the brush stroke, it is not being updated in the tool panel input or in the stroke window…so I can essentially have (2) 3 pt strokes created with the same brush that don’t visually match but whose display properties DO match. Because I will be doing lots of editing I certainly don’t want to work this way.

When I create a shape with a Pantone Color and then decrease the opacity in the color swatch palette, then go to my swatches palette and select "Select All Unused Colors"  it highlights the pantone color being used in the file.  In previous version, it never did this.   This is for CS6.  Any know fix for this?

Illustrator :: Create Wavy Line With Consistent Wave Regardless Of Anchor Point Spacing?

Jan 10, 2013

The above image shows my problem. All have the same zig zag effect setting, but due to inconsistent anchor point spacing there is inconsistent waviness. Is there a way to make a wavy line that is not a distortion based on anchor point distances? I'd like all my wavy lines to look nice and consistent like this:

The only reason they're so consistent is the absolute setting has been used but these lines are all straight and have only 2 anchor points, start and finish, hence the wave is consistent. It's harder when the lines are curvy and have a different number and spacing of anchor points.

Illustrator :: Using Scatter Brush To Draw Multiple Lines - Spacing Option Follows Size Of Base Object

Aug 25, 2012

1. original

2. doubled horizontal size of the line

I'm using scatter brush to draw multiple lines with random size and angle(image 1.), and trying to increase only the horizontal size(image 2.), keeping the interval the same. But when I do, the interval is also increased since 'Spacing' option follows the size of the base object.  I could adjust and decrease the spacing value, but the problem is, spacing option cannot go below 1%. So if want to increase the line size and maintain the interval, there's no way to do it. expending then scaling could work, but that's not what I want.

Photoshop :: CS6 / Pasting Shapes From Illustrator?

May 15, 2012

I am trying to paste 3 shapes from Illustrator into Photoshop. The shapes are layered; I need them to be separate layers in PS. I am copying the shapes from AI and pasting into PS as separate Shape layers. The problem is that when I paste the shape layers, the position in which they land on the canvas is not consistent... they don't line up properly. This means I will have to manual reposition the shapes in Photoshop?

(as a side note, I'm baffled that there is not way to export my AI document as a PSD, and retain the layers as vector shapes... exporting to PSD requires I rasterize the artwork. Has this been added to CS6?)

Illustrator :: Rotating 5 Shapes Evenly?

Feb 21, 2014

I usually make a 6 petal flower shape by creating a petal, flipping a copy and rotating 2 copies at 60 degrees. (at left, below). But I want to make a 5 petal flower and cannot figure out how to do that. let's say I have an elongated oval and I want to rotate 4 more copies at 72 degrees. And I want it to be "mathematically perfect / evenly spaced, using the black dot as the point of rotation. how would i do that? On the right - you can see what i am aiming for, but there's no way to be perfect doing it by hand.

Illustrator :: Shapes Will Not Align Correctly

May 5, 2013

Look at the photo I provided.

The rectangle will not to the circle correctly or evenly. This has been happening too much recently and I move on and find a way around it. I've had enough though.

I've turned off and on Snap to point, Snap to grid, Smart guides. Everytime I drag the rectangles edges to the circles, they magically somehow snap back to the original spot or further than I wanted it.

Nothing fixes it. I'm extremely furious! Why is the edge of my circle able to be there but not the edge of the rectangle? I've even tried to increase and decrease the shapes. Still, nothing.

Illustrator :: Background Color And Shapes

I'm new to illustrator and having trouble with changing the background color of the working board. I'd like to see how my very simple shapes look under dark conditions (black background).

So, while I was able to change the color of the background, my shapes, along with their fill colors, just disappeared. They're there, "behind" the background and I can't / don't know how to bring them to the front.

How can I accomplish such a simple task ?

Illustrator :: How To Paint A Gradient Into Some Shapes

Sep 13, 2013

I'm trying to paint a gradient into some shapes but after a few seconds of painting, the brush stops responding and i have to release it to let it make it's mark.  As i'm painting a gradient, when i start painting again it covers it with a new version of the gradient instead of blending the 2 together which is clearly not the effect i'm after and not a result that is of any use.

Is there a way of getting all paint strokes to blend so i can fill the whole area with the gradient as there is no other way of filling this area with it.
