Illustrator :: How To Avoid Grainy Files After Editing In Photoshop CS6 (Mac)
Mar 24, 2014
We have come across a problem using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 on a MAC. We use Illustrator CS6 for putting together the graphics and use Photoshop CS6 for editing. When we save the image in full res and browse the image - the image looks grainy both on a Mac and a PC.

I've not long started shooting in RAW with my Nikon D700 and have had some pleasing results so far. However, I've just started editing in Lightroom and have noticed that my RAW images are incredibly grainy. I don't think it's the ISO because this has happened across the board ... even with a very low ISO. Obviously the jpegs seem much better as they've received treatment, but no amount of tweaking the details section of Lightrom seems to solve the problem. My work flow was: Shoot in RAW + jpeg > Manually upload the files to my PC > Add the raw files to Lightroom > Edit them via the developing module.
I've uploaded a cropped version of one of the images. Please note the white specks in the dark area of the RAW image.

I always convert my Nikon .NEF files to .DNG to work with them in Lightroom, but this week I opened some of the .NEF files in Nikon View NX2 and noticed they looked less grainy than their own .DNG counterparts. The .NEF file had some grain, which is to be expected, but the .DNG had noticeably more.
I was told that .DNG conversion was a lossless process, so I was surprised to find ANY difference between the two files. I also noticed some (relatively small, but non-zero) differences between their histograms.
Â
Why would there be ANY differences at all in the NEF-->DNG conversion process? Is it not really lossless? Is there something wrong with my settings?
I'm using a Mac OSX 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion), Nikon D5100 camera, Nikon View NX2 ver.2.7.6, , and Lightroom 4.4 with Camera raw 7.4.

1. Can only .PDF files that were made in Illustrator be edited in Illustrator?
2. After opening a .PDF that was made in Illustrator, are you editing bitmaps or vector images?

I am using Illustrator CC. My business partner is in CS6. When we save files to .pdfs or legacy versions, we lose the ability to use the character pallete. I can't change leading or use kerning tools. I am able to select the text box, and change letters, but that's it. I can't go in and select a line, and then change the leading. I can't select a line to change the kerning. When I open the version that my partner's worked on in CS6, I save it as a cc file. I'm not sure why we're losing all the editing capability. The box for "preserve Illustrator editing capabilities" is checked. We have always had different versions of Illustrator for the last 6 years we've worked together, and this hasn't ever been a problem.

got an out of the blue commission for a t-shirt .... now I'm getting a crash course in Illusrator. Been using it all of one day.
Â
Here's the trouble though - when I use my brushes to make actual brush strokes, the resulting paths look "grainy" - like they aren't vectors/paths.
Â
From what I understand, even drawing freehand with the brush should produce vectored lines - and I can play with points within those freehand brush strokes. But when I zoom out, the strokes I drew with the brush look almost "pixelly", while the ones done with the pen tool look nice and smooth (I should note this is a custom brush that I made, butt the other paths that I've applied the brush to look fine).
Â
Is this normal? Should I resign myself to having to go back over everything using the pen tool (there's a lot of fine, irregular line work)? Or is there some setting of the brush or special key that I'm missing?I know it's small, but you might be able to see what I mean where the main vertical line meets up with the angled line. The near-vertical is brushed in, the angled one is a path with brush overlay....

I am running autocad 2011 for mac to design sails. I was given a autolisp file that will automate the majority of the process, but it uses a .dcl file to input all the numbers. Unfortunately .dcl files are not support with the Mac version and therefore I am looking for any solutions.Â
- Is there another way to input the information and therefore link the lsp file to something different?
- Is it easy to re-write the lisp file and input directly into that?
At the moment the time I am wasting researching how to make the .lsp program work, I could have hand drawn most of the sails anyway!

Created 4' x 8' artwork in illustrator for a vinyl banner (w/my company logo, tagline & images). Saved file as a PDF and sent to printing company. Just received banner and everything looks great, except our Logo/tagline... they look grainy as if either it was a JPG or I'm thinking the logo/tagline did not link up and the low quality place holder printed? Either way, I'm trying to find out if it is something the printing company messed up or if it's something I messed up—and if it was my fault, how to avoid this in the future.
Â
Logo with tagline was created in illustrator.I did not "Place" the logo & images in the banner file. Rather I opened the files in illustartor and "Drag & Dropped" them in the banner file.Converted the text of Logo with tagline to "outlines".Then saved as PDF from illustartor.Â
The picture below is hard to see, but you can really see it best at the top of the "t" as if it was cut out with a polygonal lasso tool.

I am making a large back drop with a collage of photos of people. each image ranges from 8x12 to 16x 20....the photos I got from the professional photographers are showing up fine. My photos, taken with a 5D in Raw and exported at high res are showing up grainy...not sharp! I tried the raster settings like a friend suggested and set it to 150ppi or even 300ppi and no change..

Is there a way to use symbol libraries so that editing 1 symbol will ripple through and change several .ai files?Â
Â
Our office has several people, working on several .ai files which all share symbols in common. We all know how to edit a local symbol and have it ripple through 1 document and change the artboards. We know how to save a library of symbols to share with others in the office. What we don't know is how to edit a symbol in that library and have it update everwhere.Â
Â
If we can improve our process we can turn 1 day of work into 1 minute. I wish it worked like links in InDesign. Â

I'm designing a new logo for a client and I would like a rectangular form on the background. There is a C-formed shape in the rectangle which should be clipped in the final version. (so if used on black background for example, there's only the regular form on the background with the C in it, but not the shape of the C outside the rectangle on the left and right of the rectangle).
Â
Clipping could be an option but it gives me those fine strokes...
The first image is the ideal result (but not clipped so with shapes of the C outside the box on a coloured background). The 2nd is the result when clipped. Note the small lines where the C-shape touches the borders of the rectangle on the left, right and bottom of the rectangle.

I created vector art in Illustrator, then saved the file as an .ai file.
Â
Afterward, I chose "Save for Web," and exported the file as a .png file.
Â
I placed the .png file at 100 percent into a Dreamweaver file.
Â
The result is a file with jagged edges. How do I save the file to preserve the smooth vector look of the original file?

I have designed an Ad in Illustrator which I need to export to insert into an email. When the client views on the Mac (I am working on PC), compression like artifacts are visible around the text (see below... it is mainly around the white text in the red background header box). I have tried: Outlining fonts Saving as JPG / PNG300ppi / 600 ppi..how to save it so it is clean and crisp (like the AI design)

We work in a packaging environment using MAC OS 10.6.8 using Illustrator CS6.
In order to ouput Illustrator files correctly through a RIP, we expand all effects (shadow, glows, etc) before converting them to a Hi Resolution PDF to impose for output.
What we have started to see is lines starting to show up on the PDFs (and the Printing Plates too) where the bounding box of the effect used to be. We have seen lines show up in earler versions of Illustrator but not to the number or thickness they seem to be in CS6.
Â
Is there any way to avoid these lines from showing up (and being printed)?Â

I've purchased a template pre-made and I'm editing the graphics. They come with supposedly editable .psd's
When I open it up it's the entire template of graphics. No individuals. They're advice is to select a certain layer and save for the web as the file I need after editing. Well, when doing this it saves the entire template, not just the file I need.

All of my images look grainy in the dark areas in CC, but not in CS5. Is there a display setting that I'm missing? Side note, the saved images look fine. They only look bad in the CC UI. Photshop CC and CS5 64-bit on Windows 7

i have a pic i took with my dig camera and a "border" for a birthday card that i want to use...the border is perfectly sized for a 4x6 pic...so i shrank the pic to 4x6 and added a new layer and placed the border on top of the pic....then i added a "Happy Birthday" text layer on top...when i saved the pic as a jpg and had it printed, everything was grainy....the words and border were the most obvious but the pic was nothing to write home about....
what should i do (even converting the RAW image to a jpg) to make sure the pic, border, and text come out nice and crisp?

I’ve designed the front and back covers in PhotoShop. However, they want the whole document in Microsoft Word. So what I did was make a text box and put the image in it and stretched it over the page.
When I do that, it’s grainy, AND it doesn’t cover the whole page.
Is there something I can do to make that work? Or is this not possible? TO get a clean image from photoshop into Word?

I've just recently recieved a digital camera as a gift, and through using it have discovered what i'm guessing is a problem in my Photoshop color settings. In the past i've largely used photoshop for web design work, and not really with higher quality large photos. Anyways, when i'm opening my photo's in photoshop i'm finding extra graininess. I'd blame the camera, but when i open the pictures with windows' image previewer, even at "actual size" the graininess is not as severe as it is in photoshop. Not having had the necessity, i haven't delved into the color correction etc. side of photoshop yet.

Is there any way to edit a layered .png file in Photoshop CS2?
I've got a layered .png file, and when I open it in Photoshop it's just one flat image.
If Photoshop can't open the file and preserve the layers, does anyone know Fireworks can save the .png as a layered .psd file that I can then edit?

I have had Photoshop CC and have found large images (both RAW and JPEG) import really grainy. This hasnt happened with previous Photoshops ive owned.
when i scale the image size down it seems to remove most of the grain. ive found one other thread talking about this but they ended up agruing about termonolgy. Im not really keen for that.

I bet I've messed with some setting somewhere and forgot to change it back, but I can't for the life of me fix this problem.
It would be best if I don't have to add a blur to the gradient to get it to look right,

when I lighten up a photo certain dark areas (not all and not all the time) get very grainy / noisy looking. Is there anyway to remove or compensate for that? Unfortunately, I was shooting in very low-light level conditions and I could not use a flash (shots of horses). I would like to be able to get clean 8x10 prints out of these, but the grain is so bad.
