I'm using CS5 on a PC.
I got live trace to finally trace the image I want to use. But I am unable to select the vectors now, they are stuck. The tracing is a sublayer of layer one. Is there a simple trick I'm missing?
I am new to Illustrator, but know that I need to select the object I'd like to trace before using Image Trace. The problem is every time I used the selection tool, the entire picture is selected, and then traced.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi used to trace QR-Code images because I often need them as scalable vector data. That worked nearly perfect in the old versions. I just had to to a little clean-up to some corners but every anchor-point was perfectliy in place. The new Tracer in CS6 places the anchor-points not at the "Black-Square-corners" of the original image. The attaced image shows the Tracer-Preview and settings. The orange points indicate the not correct traced areas.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIllustrator's Image Trace doesn't seem to work at all with large images. The attached image shows the following:
A) The original raster cropped tightly.
B) Converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings. Results in 242 paths and 4792 anchors.
C) Adding a massive amount of white space and then converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings. Results in 407 paths and 1620 anchors.
For whatever reason Illustrator can't seem to handle large images. This test shows it's not an issue with the image being too complex since all I've done is add white space and the file was saved without compression so there should be no noise.
This type of glitch started with CS6 with the new Image Trace tool. Maybe setting Image Trace into legacy mode?
how to use Live Trace in Illustrator but now instead of the Tracing Options window having a button that says "Trace" it's now showing a button that says "Set to Default." I'm sure something isn't selected right or something similar, but I can't figure it out. why "Trace" is no longer an option?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings?This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.

Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.
I just started using CS6, jumping from CS3. A major tool I use is Live Trace, and I have custom settings for that. I cannot find a way to make Image Trace behave the way Live Trace did for black and white line drawings. The results I get in CS6 are far inferior to those I got in CS3 in terms of retaining the look of the original raster image. Otherwise, I will have to leave CS3 installed just to do my Live Trace.
Here is a sample of what I mean. You can see the quality degredation in CS6 compared to CS3. (And it's much more obvious when it's full size and full resolution.)

I'm new on illustrator so I'm still messing around with it.
The brushes seem to only do white lines whenever I select colours and try to draw with them! How do I make the brushes work properly?
I am creating vector shape layers i can still see pixels, is this right? i know photoshop is a raster program but i was under the impression vector shape layers worked like vectors. The same goes for when i copy and past layer from illsutrator into photoshop as smart objects, should i be able to see pixels?

I can draw well but it seems almost impossible to get the quality of my sketch work to go to Illustrator in a way I am happy with. I do not like what I see from scanner to Imagetrace either. This is largely due to my inexperience in the process from sketch to vector to t-shirt. how you approach this process from a pad of paper to Illustrator?

Basically when I do this, the map loses all it's detail almost as if Illustrator simplifies the map. I can't seem to work out at all how to make this while retaining the detail and export it as an eps.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis may have a simple solution (and probably does), but I can't find it. What I'm trying to do is to import an AI 5.1 file into AE 5.5 as original vectors. I need to be able to scale up to about 12,000 percent and then back down to 100 percent for the effect of an extreme closeup being zoomed out of. The point of vectors, of course, is that you can do this without losing resolution... but no matter what I try, AI files keep being imported as raster files. When they're scaled up enough, the pixilation starts.

I am using solidworks, creating a sheet, all line thicknesses are changed to 0.05mm and then exporting the sheet as .AI. Every drawing I create is saved using identical settings.Out of say 10 only 3 of them are okay and can be edited as vectors. The rest seem to turn themselves into a series of images.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I have done many hours of animation in flash over the years. And what I am trying to do is import some of the characters I have created in Flash into Illustrator and convert them to PSD. This is for a print project that I am working on. The reason I want to get the images to photoshop is so I can add some effects and coloring techniques I simply can not do in Illustator or Flash.Here is the method I am using.
1) Select the vector image in Flash and Export Selection to Adobe FXG.
2) Open FXG in Illustartor
3) Export to PSD
4) Open in Photoshop and Color.
The problem I am having is the line art that was drawn with the pencil tool in Flash simply vanishes when imported to Illustartor. Also a lot of the line art that was draw with the pencil tool is gradient filled or the image I am trying to export may have multiple color Pencil Lines. So just trying to outline the images in AI does not provide the look or effect I want.

What can i do?
In CS5, I was fairly easily able to do this by dragging a vector directly from illustrator to fireworks, but vectors drug back to illustrator would be rasterized. I recall photoshop did some of this stuff, but I don't remember so much as this use case is rarely necessary for photoshop for me. Nonetheless, Illustrator CC and Fireworks CS6 don't seem to support this feature at all.
I've always dreamt that adobe bridge would have this sort of functionality (since it's the only useful feature I could picture bridge having), but I haven't seen any evidence to support this wish.
Is there a good way to drag & drop or copy & paste vectors between the new versions of illustrator, fireworks, and photoshop? Maybe there are clipboard settings that allow this to happen or a program that accepts clipboard vectors, quickly converts them to something common like svg, then allows you to drag a temp .svg file into another program?
[by the way, I know I could just export .svg files from illustrator, then place them into a fireworks file, but this feels like an unnecessarily clunky workflow]
I have recently buy one software ( embroidery) , with the corel draw x5 essential.
- but I can not find the trace function to convert bitmap to vector , like power trace.
On my Mac OS X (2010), running Excel 2011 and Adobe CS6, I'm having major issues with the points in a scatter plot not rendering as vectors once moved to an Adobe program. The entire plot will transfer as a vector, except the data points themselves! Oddly, even the shapes in the legend are vectors! When I save a plot from a powerpoint presentation as a pdf, the data points look pixelated in the pdf. When I copy paste the plot into illustrator, same thing. It is totally infuriating.

Since the white isn't actually a shape I keep getting the error that I have to join the shapes. But it's a collection of black vectors that make up the image. What would be the best way to create an outline, or a fill that I could use to mask with? In photoshop I remember you paint a mask area.Which would be ideal. Is there a simular way to to this wiht CS6?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was designing some cartoon character, but I've noticed something, I'm working on CMYK and I've got some black lines on the top layer, and some red and violet color shapes in the bottom layer for the background color, but like if the colours weren't mixing allright in the edges, like some kind of jagged white fine edge and I don't know how to get rid of it.

Perhaps it's not as strong as I see it on the CMYK Illustrator vector, but it's pretty annoying on the final result. How to get rid of these things?
How do I use it?
I drew a line art picture, traced over it in pen, scanned it into Illustrator.
I selected the autotrace tool and clicked it on the lines, it didn't work. I clicked IN the lines, and it traced around the lines...see attachment. Also it left out a bunch of shapes.
I'm rather confused. Should I just not use auto trace for this? If so, what's the better tool?
Is it possible to cut out a section of a Placed PNG in Illustrator without doing a Trace Bitmap?

I go under window, then over to image trace and it shows up, but it is light and it can't be opened. I also tried going under Object, then to Image Trace and the same thing.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to trace MRI scans with the Adobe Illustrator trace tool. I have been experimenting with the presnts in order to get the image I want and I have an example posted on this blog: [URL] .....
My goal is to produce easier to follow drawings for audiences who are not used to seeing MRI scans and at the same time avoid any copyright violations by using somebody else's images.
As you can see it does a fair job of outlining the brain but misses a lot of gray details in the center of the image.
How to trace these details? I used to be able to do this by hand, so I think that it is probably possible.
I am using AI CS4 and Win 7. For those who have used it is the trace tool in CS6 better?
