In Illustrator CS4. I want to create a repeating pattern, using a swatch. I've done this before succesfully but not sure why this one isn't working as planned.
The small image at the bottom (just the area inside the artboard) is the spacing I want between the characters, but the pattern at the top is what I get.
When making a pattern into a swatch and applying it to letters, I am noticing that you can see an abrupt point where the pattern stops and repeats. How can this be done so it is not visible?

If you look at this example below, the pattern (behind the hands, log, etc) looks completely random. How would I go about recreating this effect? Would I need to draw the whole thing manually?

When i migrated to the CS5, the exactly same pattern always have a fine line in between the pattern swatches. After i export the artwork to jpg in 300dpi, they are still there.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have some 3D sand in a bottle and I'm trying to map a sand symbol to it, but it's coming up way to large. Illustrator will not let me duplicate the image when I try apply it through 3D extrude & bevel - map art option. It doesn't seem like this should be a difficult task. Basically, my sand picture is 1000px x 1000px. I saved it as a jpeg, then imported it into my swatch gallery in illustrator (pretty sure that's the correct way). When I try to apply it to my sand using "map art" I have the option to "scale to fit" which distorts the image horribly. I want it to be a 1:1 ratio, if that makes sense, only smaller and duplicated 10x or whatever to cover the whole object. It's not a seamless picture that I'm mapping, so if there's a filter that I can apply that would make it less noticable. I'll attach a screenshot of the sand to show you what I'm talking about. The top layer of sand looks almost perfect, but the bottom one looks terrible because I had to stretch symbol to cover the whole object. If you can tell from the image, each grain of sand is stretched horizontally by like 10 so it doesn't even look like sand.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe struggle a bit creating a seamless repeating pattern that includes embedded images with clipping masks applied.Our pattern is a 550x550mm black square with various embedded inserted on top. All of these images have Clipping Masks applied to hide unwanted areas.These images are placed so they create a seamless repeating pattern and this includes areas that overlap the square.Once we create a swatch from this pattern the repeatable area becomes too big as it includes the unwanted areas hidden by the clipping masks.Because the repeatable area is now too big it's actually not repeatable.
Pathfinder/crop to delete the unwanted areas in the images etc.We though of just live tracing the images, but due to the complexity this is not an option.Do we really have to do our "cutting" in Photoshop .
I wanted to save a pattern swatch and not the whole swatch library so I deleted all the swatches until it was just the one pattern swatch. I saved it as an .ase and then opened it in another document. I noticed however that when I open the pattern in the other document it shows the default swatch library and no pattern swatch. When I save the swatch as an ai. it opens the default library as well as the pattern swatch. Is there a way to save just the pattern swatch?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to work out how to rotate a pattern swatch without that rotation affecting all the other pattern swatches on my palette. I don't want the rotation to apply to just one instance of fill, I want to edit the actual swatch so that whenever it is used in the future, that rotation is applied.
I have tried the obvious - eg going to object, transform, pattern only... and it works, but it also rotates all my other swatches; and I can't work out if it's rotating it for just that object or if it's actually updating the pattern swatch orientation.
Additionally some comprehensive tutorials on making patterns using the updated CS6 software - everything I've found so far just raises further questions for me. I'm talking about, for example, being able to change the width or rotation of a stripe within a pattern and have it still tile seamlessly.
I'm using CS6 on a PC.
It may be the way I'm using this feature and I've just missed it - it appears to me that you can't have a solid background to your swatch because the way it stacks/overlaps elements means that you will end up cropping some elements on some sides.
Try it just by putting a solid shape the exact size of the tile.
I really want to make a small honeycomb swatch pattern (the polygons should be small - 2 px x 2px) , but I just cannot get it to work. What I did is make one small polygon, and went to: Object>pattern>make and applied the following settings:
You will see that on the shoulder of the t-shirt, the pattern is kinda trasparent - the bottom layer is visible-I don't want it to be.The bottom pattern(on the side of the t-shirt) you will see came out fine, except that the polygons are too big and I cannot get it any smaller.
When creating patterns with for example very easy dimensions like the artboard 400 x 400 px etc, and everything right placed, as you can see on the print screens, after having created the pattern, it never aligns center-aligned like I would like it too.

New to Illustrator. I cannot seem to keep my new pattern designs in my swatch panel. It isn't there when I open a new document.
Do the new patterns have to be saved in a file for later use? Using CS6 and on a MAC Pro
I want to alter the colors of my pattern. Typically, I pull it from the palette to the artboard, change my colors.. re-select the entire patterns repeat and drag and drop it back into the swatches palette. None of my layers are locked and all are visible. What's the deal? (iMac CS2) (I have loaded up other files with patterns in them and it works just fine!) (I have also quit .AI and reloaded the same file with the same problem.)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently created a script that reads the layer names of an Illustrator file, and uses the name to identify a swatch to use to pattern all elements on that specified layer. The script works well, and is a real time saver for our mapping staff, but it requires duplicate swatches to exist, where the only difference is their colour.
To improve the script I want to duplicate a swatch and modify its' colour before applying it to a specific layer. I think the only way this can be done is via the "placedItems" command. So the code I'm trying to write looks likke this:

I have some 2 coluor artwork consisting of 2 x pantone colours purple and grey.
Within the artwork is a stripe pattern swatch consisting of the same colours. On screen the colours are fine and I've checked all the colour settings and these are fine too.
Why however when i print the artwork does the pattern print in a different colour?

How to access the swatch properties, like when double clicking on the swatch in the swatches panel, how to "simulate" a drag & drop of the swatch to the document, I'll take it too, though I think it is not the most convenient way to do.
I played with the feature a bit and understand how to create the patterns. Problem is when I go to fill in my 12x12 space there are seams. I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Am I doing something wrong or is the largest size you can create with this tool seamlessly only 9x9?

I know I could draw out a bunch of boxes, fill them with the swatch colors, and manually look up and type in the hex values for each. But this would take a LONG time, as there are a number of color variations.
Whenever I try to create a new CMYK color swatch it automatically opens pattern swatch name panel. Why won't it let me create a color swatch?

I can add new gradients and set their stop colors ect but I can't figure out how to create a perfect copy of the gradient in the swatch library.
I've been looking and the only thing I found that comes close was an older script that's only compatibale with CS. In this they're copying EVERYTHING I just wanna stick to gradients at the moment. Here's the link: [URL]
I looked to this as an example of how to do something like this but since it wont work with CS6 I cant really experiment or tinker to figure out how it works.

I am having a difficult time trying to create a new swatch libray of patterns from multiple png files. The way I am doing this is very slow and repetitive and seems silly for a tool as advanced as the latest CC suite including illustrator.
What it seems I must do is open all the png files in Illustrator, creating multiple workspaces, drag one png file into the swatch window, then save that window as a library, close the existing window to reveal the next png file, open the user library I just created, drag the next image into the currently active swatch window, then drag the previous swatch/s from the user library into the current active swatch window, resave and replace the user defined swatch library (now with two images in there)fromthe updated current active swatch panel/window, close the existing workspace to reveal the next image file, and then repeat the process again, slowly building the user defined swatch library up by adding one image at a time and then adding back into the Swatch panel the previously built up library of swatches again one at at time. (you can select all from the existing user defined library and drag over into swatch panel, but this creates at least one duplicate on each cycle for as soon as you click on the first swatch in the library, it adds itto the current swatch panel and then when you select all swatches to drag across it includes the first swatch and copies it again)
This is a very slow process to build up a swatch library. For some reason you cannot drag swatches directly into the user defined library you have created, only into the active swatch window for each workspace. I searched the web and forums for answers but could find none. There must be an easier way, just can't find it.
Ideally, the best option would be a swatch window option that allows the import directly from a list of selected files in the finder.
i regularly have to print out colours for sublimating fabric, and use illustrator to create a panel of blends to print out.
I put four colours in the corners, make an 18 step blend or the top two, then the bottom two, expand them then ungroup them, and then change the blend options to 8 steps and blend them vertically one by one.
all in all it's several minutes work, but i thought i could change the values of the four corners, and then use actions to blend the grid.
initially it stopped and told me ungroup was unavailable, so i created smaller steps, but still can't get it to work.
is this possible, or do i carry on manually crating grids? or is there another way?
I made a pattern in illustrator c6 (lets say simple dots in rows) and I want to color this dots with a swatch (which means a specific color that changes automatically when I change this particular swatch). It does change the color but it also causes a lot of troubles, it makes weird compound paths and illustrator gets very slow...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm playing around with a part that I'd like to "decorate" with embossed features or perhaps even cut-outs. The actual part, before adornments, looks like a funnel. As sketched now, I'm revolving a spline and then creating a thickened solid feature. I suppose that the variable diameter and varying cross sectional radius of my part increases the level of complexity of this task over a part that looks more like a regular cylinder. I'm hoping to learn a tecnique that will work for revolved parts with highly irregular profiles - not just plain ole cylinders.
So, what I'd like to do is emboss (negative or positive) and/or thru-cut decorative geometric or vine/flower inspired patterns into the outside face of a funnel-like part. (Pic attached.) I'm picturing some sort of pattern that might repeat around the part. (The variable diameter probably really complicates matters here.) I haven't put much effort/experimentation into this yet - pretty much because I'm a loss about where to even start.
When I create a shape with a Pantone Color and then decrease the opacity in the color swatch palette, then go to my swatches palette and select "Select All Unused Colors" it highlights the pantone color being used in the file. In previous version, it never did this. This is for CS6. Any know fix for this?

Now I made all the assets, and I thought I can use the star animation as a sub animation, so I can tell it to appear in random heights, move from right to left and start at a random frame, so I made a GIF just for that. But I fail to see any sort of controls that let me do what I was planned.

No what I want to be able to do is create a repeating pattern that can then be printed as wallpaper and pasted to the wall. As you can imagine there are lots of hurdles to get your head round and I can find any support anywhere.
Traditional wallpaper is 53cm wide by 10metres long per roll.
The wallpaper will have either a 1/4 or 1/2 drop.
I need the pattern to repeat seamlessly top and bottom and left and right because its wallpaper! I have been experimenting with the pattern tool in illustrator but with no real luck. I can create a pattern that drops by 1/4 or 1/2 but it gets all weird on the vertical repeat so its unusable.
The first image has a brick pattern and the second a grid. In the first you can clearly see some lines. I do not have any stroke on the objects and no other objects on the artboard. Is there anyway to get rid of these lines?
