Recently, I started using Adobe Illustrator and watched many tutorials for the basics of it (coming from Photoshop) but one thing that I'm not too comfortable with is the gradient tool in Illustrator compared to the one in Photoshop.
I keep reading that the only way to adjust the colours is to either use the colours in the swatches or the mini colour slider but is there a way to choose the colours like you can in Photoshop?

I am trying to to use Colour to Alpha by picking a specific colour from an image. But I can't get the colour picker to work.
The image has an alpha channel.
I choose Colour to Alpha, then click on the From swatch. The Colour to Alpha Colour Picker window appears. I click on the eyedropper. But when I move the eyedropper over the image, the cursor changes to the previous tool that was used. For example, if I used the zoom tool, the eyedropper changes to zoom as the cursor leaves the Colour to Alpha Colour Picker window, and zoom becomes active.
How do I pick a colour from the image?
I've downloaded an EPS from Shutterstock with a series of icons that look like buttons and would like to change the colour breakdown, but keep the shading/ button 'look'. When I try to select a different colour breakdown of blue it turns grey and solid.

The colour field and colour sliders on my main 'puter are "normal" having a full spectrum of colour. But the other one shows only a narrow range of colour. Well, there is the whole gamut of colour but it is shown in a weird way. I've been through the preferences and nothing addresses this issue. The attached jpg has the weird picker on the left.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use the alt button when using the brush in photoshop to quickly switch between the brush and colour picker, and it usually switches the colour i have chosen to the foreground colour so I can use the colour I picked with the brush.
but I think I pressed something or I'm not sure and it stopped doing that and I've restarted my computer and photoshop numerous times and it won't change.
what happens now is when I use the alt while using the brush the colour picker selects the colour but selects the colour for the background colour and leaves the foreground colour unchanged. =(
today I found if I click on the colour picker icon and click on a colour it'll select that colour for the background colour, but if I have the colour picker as my selcted tool and press alt and click it will set it as my foreground colour.

When I try, Nothing happens and everything is else is disabled- I can’t click on tools, or layers, or anything from the dropdown menus. I can't even minimize or quit the program!I’ve restarted photoshop several times, restarted my computer and this still happens every time I click on the colour swatch to bring up the picker.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'd like to change the text colour to that of one I pick using the eye dropper tool.
This is what I do;
1. Select the text
2. Using the eye dropper tool i click on an object (lets say a square) filled object with a different colour. (no stroke) - Now I expect that the text will change to the squares colour but it does not.
The eye dropper will pick up and change its font/colour if i select other text but not other objects. I have opened the eye dropper preferences and EVERYTHING is ticked in both picks up and applies.
MAC CS6
This problem happened only after I updated my Illistrator CS6. I'm on Windows 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the Gradient Tool won't show up when inside a Live Paint group, which makes it difficult to edit gradients. Is it supposed to be like this?
It is still possible to edit the gradient using the Gradient Panel, but I prefer to use the Gradient Tool instead because of it's direct approach.
Also, when selecting multiple areas within a Live Paint group to fill with a gradient, I don't seem to be able to Alt+Drag with the Gradient Tool in order to fill each selection with it's own gradient. It always ends up with one gradient being applied across all of the selections.
I am trying to acheive the same angle gradient effect that can be done in Photoshop but in Illustrator. The actual thing I want to be able to create as a vector is the graphic attached...
Can this be done by somehow using the blend tool and replacing the spline with a circle?
I am using CS6 and the Replace Colour Tool no longer allows me to replace multiple colours when I select the + . So when I have the panel open and I highlight the +, I used to then be able to click on several spots in my image and all of the colours that are in those spots are added to the selected colours that will be changed by using the sliders.
But now, when I use the + it has exactly the same effect as not using it - I can only choose one colour or an other, I can't add.....I want to reset this to the original way that this works.
Currently I have to open the panel, change one variation of a colour, save it, then re-open the panel and do it again (and again and again) until all the colour variations I am trying to remove are are changed. I know I also have the 'fuzziness' slider, but it does not give enough control.
I use EdHarvey's colour tint tool and it changes colour of the whole image, I'm looking for something similar but it only changes selected colour, so that the image is left with mutiple colour scheme rather than just one, any addon that can do this?
From this example, you can see the figure on the right is in a brownish colour scheme, what tool can I use in order to make it's colour scheme blue like the figure on the left?

I tried to replicate the background shown in this screenshot in CorelDRAW X6, but had trouble making the gradient, with orange on top then both green and blue beneath. While I can make the gradient use three colors, they are in a line, unlike the screenshot where they are next the each other both horizontally and vertically.
I went through the section in the tutorials about checking layer and other options, no joy. It worked from me when I first installed but quit. I completely uninstalled Gimp 2.8 ran c cleaner and insured that the folder no longer existed but it came up the way I had set it originally so must of been entries in Registry.

i'm trying to use the gradient tool. im adding gradients to sold colour shape jpg's. for instance i have a jpeg that is a green square.
i want to use the Graditent tool to give a gradient effect to my jpeg, however when i apply a gradient it is always grayscale, no matter what colour the image! can this be changed to colour? if so how?
in other words, is it possible to make my green square have a green gradient effect?
I need to alter the colour of the attached image to a gradient fill from blue to green (hex 283E90 to 9FCF6F)
The problem is every time I do this the image loses its sharpness (using magic wand, highlighting the area and filling a gradient and other similar techniques)
